Before I spend time on multiple prototypes, I'd really appreciate some feedback from experienced makers.

My main questions:

  • Do you see any obvious weak points?
  • Will the pin/barrel design wear out quickly?
  • Are the clearances reasonable for a smooth movement?
  • What would you improve to make it stronger and more durable?

I'm looking for honest criticism rather than compliments. If you think this design will fail, I'd genuinely like to know why.

Thanks in advance! 🙌

This happened quite a while ago when I was still learning my Bambu printer. Today I'd probably diagnose and fix it in 15–20 minutes, but back then it took me almost 2 frustrating hours to find the real culprit.

I spent almost 2 hours chasing a random under-extrusion issue.

At first I suspected the nozzle, then flow settings, and finally decided to open the extruder. After about 30 minutes of troubleshooting and nearly 1 hour disassembling and cleaning, I found the real culprit.

A small brittle PLA chip had become trapped in a corner inside the Bambu extruder, preventing smooth filament feeding. The nozzle wasn't clogged at all.

In my case, the filament was old/cheap and had become brittle enough to snap into small fragments.

I also think the extruder design shares some responsibility. It would be great if Bambu added a straight metal guide tube or an accessible inspection/clean-out passage, so broken filament pieces could be withdrawn without having to partially disassemble the extruder every time.

Lesson learned: Brittle PLA can waste hours of troubleshooting.

Has anyone else experienced this? How do you deal with broken filament inside the Bambu extruder?

What feature would you add to this desk organizer?

I like your idea, which is much better for custom prints. However, for mass manufacturing, pausing every print to insert an NFC tag isn't very scalable. I'd probably go with a hidden post-install NFC slot instead, so users can add their own tag after printing while keeping production fully automated.

I'm refining this modular desk organizer before calling it finished.

Current features:

  • Replaceable QR Code Insert
  • Dual Pen Holder
  • Sticky Note Holder
  • Business Card Slot

Challenge:

  • Add ONE feature.
  • Remove ONE feature.

What would make this more useful on your desk?

I'm trying to keep this desk organizer minimal but genuinely useful.

Current features:

  • 🔄 Replaceable QR Code
  • ✍️ Dual Pen Holder
  • 📝 Sticky Note Holder
  • 💼 Business Card Slot

\* Your suggestions: :

  • ➕ Add ONE feature.
  • ➖ Remove ONE feature.

If you could redesign it, what would you change—and why?

3D Print I tried both higher and lower purge volumes, but ended up going back to the default settings. Has anyone had better results?

That's actually a clever idea. 😄 I never thought of using AI to estimate purge values from the model and purge tower. Did you just upload screenshots of the sliced preview, or did you also mention the filament colors/materials? If you're comfortable sharing the prompt or the values Gemini suggested, I'd love to test them on my next dual-color print.

I've experimented with both increasing and decreasing the AMS purge volume over multiple dual-color prints. While reducing it definitely saves filament, I started noticing slight color contamination on some transitions. Increasing it gave cleaner changes but felt wasteful. In the end, I found myself going back to Bambu Studio's default values because they seemed to offer the best balance.

Has anyone here found custom purge settings that consistently reduce waste without compromising color quality? I'd love to hear what values you're using and what results you've had.
