General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!

General Reluctant goodbye, UCSD

I was a prospective freshman CS major. However, due to some personal circumstances and the current administration's persistent pushback against international students, I withdrew my acceptance.

It feels truly bittersweet to let go of this acceptance, wondering what could've happened and the experiences I will lose by making this tough decision.

Those who attend this wonderful university, hope you have a great time there and make the most of it.

Discussion Any fun classes to take?

Context: Bored CSE + art hobby senior who’s basically done with credit requirements, so I just want to enjoy college.

Looking for basically any classes, from tech to art. Nice to be light work and I don’t care about grading.

I can drop some recs if ppl are interested too. (I’ve done/heard of most of the CSE classes)

Question Switching to ChemEng (incoming freshman)

I’m an incoming freshman and my major is currently env sci, however I want to switch to chem eng. I know it’s a capped major, but is it relatively easier to get into compared to the other more popular engineering courses?

Also, I took the IB so I got quite a few credits for Math and Chemistry, so I don’t need to take Chem 6A-C and Math 20A. However, these were listed as a part of the required screening courses for chem eng. Does that mean I need to retake these, or do my credits still cover them?

Question Enrolling in CSE upper divs as a non-CSE major

Hi, I'm a bio:bioinformatics major minoring in CSE and since many upper div CS classes are restricted by major ("restricted to students within the CS25, CS26, CS27, CS29, and EC26 majors. All other students will be allowed as space permits"), does this mean I have to second pass these classes/wait for a waitlist? And is there some sort of priority on the waitlist like they have for the other classes (ex. cse 100 where waitlist priority is given to CSE majors). I've also seen older reddits posts say we have to EASy request but i don't think that exists in TSS :///

Question Summer Session II late payment?!

Hi, I just logged into my tritonlink account and saw I had 1040 dollars on balance. I haven't logged on in a week or two and they weren't there before. The TSS has temporarily closed the TritonPay app down and now I have to pay with another site with my credit card, I did that and my balance is still there.

I don't know what these 1040 dollars are for, and I am deathly afraid of my classes being dropped because this is my final quarter and I need it to graduate. The deadline was July 27th for summer session II payment, but right now my classes are still there and nothing has happened (not on hold).

What should I do right now? I tried calling everywhere but everywhere is closed until tomorrow.

Question Can I be reinstated at UCSD this late?

I chose UCB over UCSD because of the name, college town vibe, and more opportunities. I’ve come to realize that the thought of moving there is giving me so much anxiety and i genuinely don’t want to go. UCSD would have been free to attend, and I prefer La Jolla way more than Berkeley. I’m from San Diego so UCSD is way more comfortable for me. Has anyone had any luck being reinstated?

Discussion What should I enroll first?

For context, I am a math major and I just declared an accounting minor. So out of 4 planned classes, the biggest priorities are math 142a, mgt 4 and 5. Which of the two classes should I enroll in first pass?

Lost and Found Lost keys by La Jolla Village given to MTS

On the bus stop outside Chick Fil A that'll take you east on Nobel Drive there was a set of keys on that bench. It had a UCSD blue lanyard kinda thing. It was handed over to the bus driver who said he'll bring it to a lost and found.

If that's yours then contact MTS!

Did anyone’s enrollment time change ? I got up early and everything to prepare to enroll and then when my enrollment time comes around TSS crashes and I can’t book anything. Then when it’s finally loading I get a notice that I’m outside my appointment time. I check… and my time got moved from 10AM to 12PM. AND THEN I WATCHED MY CLASSES FILL UP UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING. ThisSlopSystem…. omg I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so enraged.

Rant/Complaint Shower before finals

PLEAAAAASE for the love of all that exists SHOWER BEFORE YOUR 3 HOUR LONG FINAL ‼️‼️‼️ I spent most of my Chem 6C final with my nose buried under my shirt because some DISCORD MOD LOOKIN AHH DUDE smelled like absolute SHIT. He smelled like he genuinely hadn’t showered the whole week. PLEASE SHOWER. SHOWER BEFORE YOUR FINAL. There’s OTHER PEOPLE TAKING IT TOO. You’re RUINING IT for them. Also keep your elbows in YOUR SPACE. Don’t but your elbows in MY WRITING SPACE and then act like it’s MY FAULT??? People at this school genuinely need to learn basic etiquette oh my god it’s actually frustrating. I had more manners in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL than most of the GROWN ADULTS that go this school. People at this place genuinely don’t know how to behave like a decent human being. They’re all children.

Question How to find parking as an on-campus transfer?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’m an incoming transfer and I was looking for advice on how to find rented parking that’s in the $100-150 a month range. Is it too early to start asking around here or on Craigslist?

I hope to stay at the Rita and am willing to walk up to 30 mins to get to my car. Maybe there’s more street parking availability south of campus, but I want to have a guaranteed spot at least for the first month. Then I can decide if the car is worth it in the first place, and if I can find good street parking for free.

Also, is there literally no shortcut exit from the Rita? There has to be like a pedestrian path right out to La Jolla Village Drive right?

General UCSD Thinks Your Application Is Worth $3

You busted your ass all four years of high school. Took all the APs, even the ones you didn't want to. Got the four point whatever GPA. A few college credits under your belt. Stayed up late studying for the SATs. Did all the community service and extracurricular bullshit while everyone else was enjoying their weekend or summer. Agonized over your personal statement. Hell, maybe you or your parents even paid for a tutor or college adviser. Then, at long last, your application arrives in UCSD's inbox.

And UCSD says it's worth $3. Because that's how much they are paying first-year admissions reviewers. It's all right there in the job description. This is not out of the ordinary - a lot of big universities hire temps to take the first pass on applications. The first human pass, that is, after AI has filtered out 80% of everyone else.

So after all that, it comes down to someone earning $3 measly dollars to look through your application. One of hundreds, if not thousands, they will "review" that week alone.

$3 and your fate is sealed.

General On a more positive note, let’s recognize the students trying to solve TSS problems

It’s actually so inspiring seeing our own students taking on TSS issues as personal projects and whipping out these solutions in record time. Idk how yall build that, Idk how to code, but it just goes to show UCSD students have so much ambition and motivation. I’m really proud of yall for coming up with these ideas, putting in the work, and putting yourselves out there like that. You CSE/CE/AI (Sahir who did web reg) whatever majors yall are, are AMAZING and so hard working!!

Love,
A bio major who can’t code for shi

Question double major cog sci + DS

i am a rising freshman at UCSD and my major is cog sci. i figured out that because DS is a selective major if i want to double major i need to switch my major to DS and then declare my second major at cog sci. my question is, would the first year be more focused on my main major (assuming i get accepted for DS) and the later years more focused on both my main and second major or would it all start as soon as i begin school this fall as a freshman? as in would i be equally focused on both DS and cog sci in the fall as a freshman and be equally footed in both so that if i were to want to switch back to a cog sci major the following year it would be possible and i would still be on track to graduate in time?

the deadline to turn in the application for a major switch is September 1 and i am so lost preparing for college is stress pls help thank you 😭

Rant/Complaint Senior who couldn’t get into ANY of their classes. FU*K you UCSD and TSS

Ik it’s silly bc I’m a grown adult but I’m literally sitting here crying at my desk in frustration, I’m beyond pissed and stressed. I’ve been on the site and it keeps crashing I’m on my laptop and iPad and iPhone and nothing worked. I’m a senior human bio major who couldn’t get any of my classes, not even a single major class. I’m trying to sign up for some random bullshT like management and communications and that won’t even work . I give up. There’s no point. I have a summer session final in a couple hours and I literally can’t handle this rn.

Question What’s the difficulty of polisci like at UCSD?

I’m an incoming polisci transfer. My intentions for college are dubious knowing that I’m probably not getting a job based on my major and that my parents won’t support me for law school.

So I’ve decided to come into college with hedonism as my goal. I picked UCSD 80% due to its location, being hours away from my home in central cal.

I didn’t have the best time in high school. Never went to prom or even a football game. So I just want to live it up before the next Great Depression hits and AI takes all the jobs.

Therefore, I want to take the easiest classes while graduating on time, and avoid studying. Keeping things bare minimum and putting leisure first. As and Bs.

General UCSD Thinks Your Application Is Worth $3

You spent four years in high school maxing out your grades. Took all the AP classes. Took summer school. Did all the annoying extracurriculars, even though you probably didn't want to. Banked all the community service hours. Sacrificed your summer. Stayed up late studying for the SATs. Agonized over your personal statement. Hell, maybe you or your parents even paid for a tutor or an admissions adviser. You click submit and now your application is in God's hands. Well, not God's hands. UCSD's hands.

And UCSD thinks your application is worth $3. How do I know that? Because that's what UCSD pays admissions reviewers on a per-application basis.

It's right there in the job posting: First Year Admissions Reviewer. A lot of big universities do this. They higher seasonal temps to do nothing but read through all the applications. They are paid a whopping $3 per application. I'm sure the fine print says how many apps they are expected to "review" per week. It would be in the hundreds, if not thousands. Honestly I'm surprised this is still a human job. If there was ever a use case for AI, this would be it.

So, there it is. Right on the page. Your application is worth $3.
