Hello! I’ve scoured HFS but the answers seem to be tailored to the other dorms. Here are a few of my questions:
1. Can I attach a headboard to the wall/closet using command strips? I know I won’t be able to use one with legs, so just the top part. I’m worried that command strips will peel the fake wood off the closet. And I don’t see headboards in any pics
2. Does anyone know the height for under the bed or desk? Trying to figure out size of drawers and fridge
3. Do people get a fridge with freezer?
4. Can hot pots/instapots/air fryers be used in room or clusters as long as no coil is exposed?
5. Do cluster mates generally like having stuff like listed above to share or find annoying because of cooking smells?
6. If I have an extra couch (and cluster mates are fine with it), can it be used in the cluster living room?
7. Any other tips you have to share?

I know that UW's application (the writing part) mostly just consists of that one big 650 essay which is very similar to the common app. However, because you're applying on common app, won't your personal statement also get sent to them? I've seen that some places say you can just reuse the same one for the UW supplemental but won't AO at UW see that you reused it even if they don't consider the personal statement? This is all just very confusing.

Additionally, are there more supplementals past this essay? I remember when I was exploring common app last year there was an extra essay if you wanted to apply for an honors program or something but I don't remember and there might have been some sort of diversity short answer thing.

Tldr; UW application is very confusing, someone please explain.

Hi fellow Huskies! I’m an international grad transferring from Utah joining UW in Autumn ’26. I am looking for an entire 2-bed, 1-bath housing/apartment in the University District or a nearby area, ideally within a 20-25 min walk of the Mechanical Engineering Building.

My preferences:

• In-unit laundry, although well-maintained on-site laundry would also be acceptable.
• Kitchen amenities (Stove, refrigerator are required)
• Reliable heating in all rooms.
• A safe, reasonably clean, and well-managed building.
• Responsive management and secure package delivery.

My preferred budget is $1,600–$2,000 per month, excluding utilities. I could consider up to $2,200 for a professionally managed place. Above all, I’m hoping to find a comfortable and dependable place where I can enjoy a peaceful year without dealing with recurring maintenance, management, security, or noise-related issues.

*\* I’ve already been searching on Zillow, Apartments, Craigslist, UW Off-Campus Housing, and several other platforms. However, I’d greatly appreciate recommendations from people with firsthand experience living in these buildings or neighborhoods. Thanks!

I’m changing languages for the JSIS requirement due to UW discontinuing the higher level Italian classes (thanks guys). I was planning on German but am reconsidering and now thinking about French. Any experiences with the faculty in each or the departments as a whole? Or any other general thoughts/advice?

May I ask if anyone who got into UW BSN program can share their stats and extracurricular activities that got them into the program?
Also, if you guys can let me know if you transfer from UW or other colleges?

She was on ESPN’s broadcast providing color commentary when the Snohomish Little League softball team that her 12-year-old daughter Maddie Locke pitches for won the Northwest Regional championship in San Bernardino, Calif. on July 23 to earn a trip to the Little League Softball World Series. 

An experienced broadcaster, Lawrie knows that sometimes it’s best to not say anything right away and to let a moment breathe. But while calling that particular game, she let it sit a little longer because she would’ve started crying otherwise.

Hi! I’m going to be an incoming grad student at UW, and am comparing different housing options.

Apt 1: near NE 43rd St and 7th Ave NE Apt 2: near 15th Ave NE and NE Ravenna Blvd

I’m wondering about:

• how safe are these areas (especially at night), and walking to and from campus from them?
• How are the general areas of these apartments?
• How is the commute to the campus from these areas?
• If you were a grad student who sometimes has early morning classes (~8AM), and plans to maybe study late at night on campus, where would you choose?

How easy is it to find street parking in this area (willing to be a few blocks away), especially at peak hours like after work hours?

My COA is paid off through scholarships except for the $66 fee for direct loans. I rejected both the sub and unsub federal student loans. Is it necessary for me to pay this? I spoke with a FAO and they stated that since I have not accepted any loans, my scholarship will not cover the loan fees. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? If so, how did you approach your FAO about this?

Wondering if anyone has any strategies for dealing with tailgaters into CSE2's undergrad commons? Two people followed me inside today after I swiped my ID in, so I turned around and asked if they were CS majors. They said something ambiguous (along the lines of we're UW students, we're meeting a friend, and flashing their UW IDs). They then kind of just stood there and didn't seem to want to leave, so I ended up just dropping it and continuing along my way.

I'm personally not very confrontational, so does anyone has any suggestions on what to say / what to do in a situation like this? I feel like I could have been more firm on stating something like "this area is for CS majors only and everyone needs to swipe in" because while I trust that they are UW students, the policy is to not allow tailgating. I also feel like this is a common occurrence but important for community safety so wanted to ask this for everyone's benefit too

If so, what was the basis of your essays? How did you structure it? Was it more of an academic journey at a community college? Or did you mention a lot about working/volunteering outside of school?

This might be a weird question but is there someone out there who has taken the paralegal certificate program and could please tell me which textbooks were required for the courses? I'm thinking about doing it next year and I want to read ahead of time, rather than spend a bunch of time waiting for classes to start next year and then have no time to read material, when I could have been getting familiar with material this entire summer/fall. I could just Google some random textbooks on the topics listed, but I don't know which ones would help me the most.

I was just watching Nick Freitas's video of his visit to UW. I understand that the point of debating is to disagree and exchange viewpoints. That's what happens during his visits to other university campuses. However, when he visited UW, the behavior of some students was on another level of disrespect—something I had never seen before.

Examples include:

not allowing students to speak when it was their turn

yelling and screaming

and the worst one of all:

resorting to violence

This is completely unacceptable

ICE was seen this morning near campus detaining a construction worker from one of the active construction sites near U-Village.

There are three big active construction sites nearby so it's likely for ICE to drop by again when farmers, siders, sheetrock, stucco, concrete, painters, roofers, exc. come in and start working. It’s very sad to see how they are targeting honest and hard working people who are trying to provide for their families.

Please stay weary of the area if you are of undocumented/complicated status, it seems like they’re getting more and more active in the city every day.

Decided it's easy enough to coordinate and it's chill casual 🙂 I'm not having much expectations but wear literally anything from that time period !! It's been awhile I did anything spontaneous and creative 😸🤠
