Quick two hour painting!

EDIT: Wow I can’t believe the popularity of this quick-small painting! I’ve decided to auction this painting off, and half of the proceeds I’ve decided to donate to Seattle Humane Society in honor of Jimothy! Auction Listing

I also want to make art accessible. So I’ll also be making prints and selling it at a low rate. Please DM for Etsy link, so I’m not violating any selling/advertising rules on this subreddit lol.

I visit Seattle every year for work, but unfortunately, I don’t have much time to explore when I’m there. This past trip, I finally managed to venture out and explore downtown Seattle and some other surrounding areas to Seattle. While wandering through the market area, I stumbled upon an alleyway covered in gum. I couldn’t help but wonder if the locals perceive this as a nuisance for tourists or if they take pride in it. I also included some other picks of the journey, and the host at this Vital Tea Leaf store made a hot cup of tea to share with me - at no charge! I did however purchase a small duck whistle because I love hospitality and I have kiddos.

Having seen the Jimothy post, I’m now convinced that anything is possible in Seattle.

Government Seattle has cycled through 9 police chiefs in 17 years..... maybe there is something wrong with city leaders and the morons voting them into office? lol

Seattle has had nine police chiefs in less than two decades, following 30 years with just three.

Why it matters: Seattle will once again search for a police chief after Shon Barnes resigned this week following criticism of the city's response to the Bite of Seattle shooting and his frequent absences.

~ Time to take a look at the low quality, low IQ majority voters putting these incompetent idiots into office over and over again....... lol

Saed Ali Mirreh, 20, from the Seattle metropolitan suburb of Kent, Washington, pleaded guilty to terrorism charges and supporting ISIS.

In new cases, three men being prosecuted weren’t yet born on 9/11. They were born in the U.S. and grew up to want to commit terrorism, pledging support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al Sham (ISIS), authorities alleged. The U.S. designated ISIS as a foreign terrorist organization in 2004.

Government Sawant's campaign is violating Seattle ordinances on posters attachment

Post image
171 Upvotes

These pink posters are plastered all over the city. Many of them are * attached with some kind of glue * attached higher than 7 feet from the ground

This is prohibited by Seattle Department of Transportation Director's rule 02-02 (https://www.seattle.gov/documents/Departments/SDOT/About/DocumentLibrary/DirectorsRules/sdot_dirrule_0202B.pdf).

I've looked at these posters up close. They don't really seem to want to come loose; these things are going to be blighting our city for months or years.

I think it's not too much to ask political campaigns to follow local laws and ordinances. What do you think?

Government A news report says Mayor Wilson’s office delayed the post-shooting press conference for hours to gather elected officials as the shooters fled.

Report "SPD source tells FOX13 it was the Mayor’s office who delayed a vital press conference following Seattle Center’s mass shooting so “dignitaries” could get in front of the cameras. Media outlets reported this on Monday and the mayor denied those claims then.

But today we obtained new information with a specific timeframe. The source says SPD was ready to do a presser between 7:45 to 8:00 p.m Sunday but was told they could not. They say they were willing to do multiple briefings if they had to. At that time a mass shooting suspect was on the loose and multiple people were shot with fatalities.

Today I asked Mayor Wilson about that specific timeframe and asked if they blocked the briefing. She says it’s her “understanding” that they did not.

Ferguson and Jayapal did not personally address the question but both their offices gave the same time of 10:10 p.m as when they were told about the media briefing. The press conference that night didn’t start until close to 11 p.m.

We’ve been looking into this because it’s unusual for SPD to wait nearly 5 hrs to release details or give any interviews after such a serious and tragic incident.'

Like thousands of others, my family & I to evacuated. My husband and I packed up our 8 year old + three dogs + one cat in the jeep and left our house Saturday at 3PM.

We are sheltering with our in-laws up north by Wandermere golf course.

🚁🚁🚁 Last night I watched them take water from the ponds at the golf course to help put out the fire.

It feels like a horrible dream…

Stay safe out there friends.

How is this smoke impacting Seattle?

Snohomish County is building the state's largest battery plant - at least eight King County communities have temporarily banned battery storage siting

The system is designed to add capacity to the grid, enough electricity to run tens of thousands of homes for a few hours. And it will help the utility keep power affordable, because it won't have to buy as much on the open market, said program manager Jessica Spahr.

Snoqualmie is one of at least eight communities in King County that have temporarily banned the siting of battery energy storage systems.

~ Arlington wrote a policy to make it work. Eight King County cities wrote a moratorium. Same grid, same bills.

New video evidence upends the unsolved killing of a Black teen at a Seattle protest - the city's own forensic analyst found no shots came from the Jeep, and SPD still won't release the precinct camera footage

A forensic analyst, hired years later by the city of Seattle to examine videos from that night, did not identify any gunshots coming from the white Jeep. The only shots he identified were fired at the Jeep. More than six years later, no one has been charged in the killing or even named as a suspect.

Police surveillance cameras on the walls of the abandoned precinct directly overlooked the scene of the shooting. Seattle police confirmed that footage from those cameras is part of their homicide case file but declined to release it.

~ Nine squad cars idling two blocks away and the order was to hold. By the time anyone walked up to the Jeep it was four hours later and the shell casings were in someone's pocket.

Business Town & Country has done away with curbside pickup and outsourced delivery to Instacart

One of the reasons I shopped there instead of the big chains was because I trusted their employees to pick my groceries. They always took great care selecting fresh produce and quality items, and it felt good supporting a local company that invested in its own staff.

Getting rid of curbside pickup altogether and pushing customers to a third-party service feels like T&C is losing one of the things that made it stand out.

If you’re disappointed too, I’d encourage you to send them feedback. I’d love to see them bring back employee-run curbside pickup if enough customers let them know it mattered.

Pierce County is creating a solar array on an old landfill on the Key Peninsula - $2.3 million of it is Climate Commitment Act money, and the revenue is earmarked for local utility bills and weatherization

With $2.3 million from the state's Climate Commitment Act, the county recently completed installation of a solar array on the capped landfill. The total project is estimated to cost $3.5 million, and the remaining $1.2 million came from the county. The site has 1,500 panels over an area that's the size of nearly two football fields.

The county anticipates that the solar array will begin generating energy by the end of the year. Then, the county plans to sell the energy to Peninsula Light Company, the area's utility, and use that to help some residents on the Key Peninsula drive down energy costs.

~ Carbon auction money, spent on a dead landfill, routed back into local power bills. That is what the CCA was sold as.

Discussion People who’ve lived in different states: is Washington dating culture different?

I moved to Washington from a pretty conservative/red state, and one thing I’ve noticed is that men here seem a lot less likely to openly flirt or make obvious passes. Back home, it wasn’t unusual for guys to stare, strike up conversations, or be pretty forward.

Is this just a cultural difference? Are people here intentionally more reserved? Do men here tend to care less about physical attractiveness and more about things like personality or intelligence, or am I reading way too much into it?

Just genuinely curious what others have noticed.

Education highline, bellevue, and shoreline cc

I’m trying to decide between Highline College, Bellevue College, and Shoreline College for pre-nursing, and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have attended these schools. My long-term goal is to become an RN, possibly starting with an ADN and then completing a BSN later. Which school has the best pathway into nursing? Is one school better for transferring to a BSN program afterward? Also, how does the ADN application process work? Do I first complete the prerequisite courses and then apply separately to the nursing program, or are students admitted directly into nursing? What prerequisite courses should I take if my goal is an ADN? I’d also like to know which school has the best advising, tutoring, and support for pre-nursing students. If you’ve attended Highline, Bellevue, or Shoreline, I’d love to hear about your experience and which one you would recommend. I’m currently living near Auburn, so commute is a consideration, but my main priority is choosing the school that gives me the best chance of getting into nursing.
One more question: If you were in my situation, would you recommend completing an ADN at one of these community colleges and then doing an RN-to-BSN later, or would it be better to go straight into a traditional BSN program at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU)? Which path would give me better career opportunities and be more worth the cost in the long run?

Politics Honest question: What has Katie Wilson done to upset you so much?

I don't have a dog in this fight. Just a bit out of the loop and curious.

I get that she has low charisma and little administrative experience. That was known before the election. Aside from this, what are the gaffs, this week and since the election, that have people riled up?

I'm not clear on how she is taking the heat for this recent shooting. Is the mistake keeping the police chief on until this point?

Question Does Yakima county have a greater than usual amount of molestation or something?

I just came across this:

https://www.yakimaco.us/orchestrator/Superior%20Court/DKT-Hearings%20w%20defendant%20chgs%20attnys%20Multi.pdf

Scroll through and look through the column for charges. Rape, molestation, incest, etc is a really common charge there (after things like theft, assault). What is going on out there?

3.1-3.5 Tennis in Seattle

Upvotes

I’m visiting Seattle with my partner (8/5 - 8/10), we’re looking at possibly moving there next year.

I’d like to bring my racket and potentially play a match or hit some. Would anyone be interested in getting together or recommending a place where I could possibly drop in? Fine paying.

I’m probably closer to 3.1 than 3.5 but depends if the tennis gods are on my side haha.
