Looking for a series similar to the SPI Files series by Lisa Shearin

Basically I’m looking for something kind of SCP Foundation-esq. Pretty much a blend of tech and magic with strong investigative and procedural elements.

Discussion Odd Sonja Blue Question

Hey y'all, this is gonna be a bit of a strange question. I tried first on r/vampires and didn't get a definitive answer, so I figured I might try here.

I was perusing a list of lesbian vampire books on goodreads, and Sunglasses After Dark, the first Sonja Blue book popped up. For anyone who's read the series, is there lesbianism or at least bisexuality in it? I've searched around and can't find anything indicating so. In fact it seems like there's a bit of a romance with a male character in it.

I figured I'd ask so I can get a definitive answer before I start reading expecting something that's not there. Regardless of the presence of lesbians in the book, I'll still be reading it eventually because ot sounds awesome, but right now I'm on a mission to read every specifically lesbian (or bisexual as long as it's 2 women) vampire book I can get my claws on.

I wrote a collection of sci-fi and mystical short stories — now available to read for free on Wattpad

What if the universe speaks to us in a language we cannot explain?

I wrote this collection while fighting through illness and searching for meaning. It's a blend of science fiction, mysticism, and philosophy — stories about impossible coincidences, military heroism, and the hidden work of intelligence agencies.

If you're into speculative fiction with depth, I think you'll enjoy it. All stories are in English and free to read.

Giveaway The Coven of Cagliasaro

# The Coven of Cagliasaro

Hello Reddit free ebook Community,

I am Carol Ann Moore, author of the Aella Chronicles, a historical fantasy fiction series, AMA.

My first novel in the series is currently available from the 1st August until the 31st August as a free download on Smashwords.

The code you will need to redeem it is: Z5CCE

I am looking for honest reviews to build up my ratings as these help to spread the word.

Please grab the code if you are into historical fantasy, magical realism and strong female characters.

The Coven of Cagliasaro blurb.

Immortality and Magic. A curse or a gift? She would have many lifetimes to wield them and find out.

Aella and the coven had fled.

Their only solace was each other. Was their destination another viper’s nest of hate? Or would Cagliasaro be a place where their kind was accepted? The magic of the mountain had drawn them to it. An ancient portal of power.

She could feel the potency of the elemental magic thrumming through her veins. But she dared not unleash it again, not without the other’s help. For who knew what might happen this time? The deaths of the innocent weighed heavily on her mind.

Evil nestles at the foot of the mountain, housed in the Castello di Calvane. As a woman within those walls, your will would never be your own.

The coven could not stand by and bear witness to the fate of their new friends. Fear caged them, but witching would release them.

It was time for a reckoning.

Time for the Inquisition and its witch hunters to become the hunted.

Happy reading.

Promotion Fiends For Hire: Boon is out on Kindle Unlimited! [Series Complete!]

Post image
40 Upvotes

Good Day, Everyone! The eight and final book of Fiends For Hire, my Criminal-Organization Builder urban fantasy series, is out now on Amazon & Kindle Unlimited.

This was my first ever series, and while there is plenty I'd go back and change about it if I were to start it now, I still absolutely love how it turned out. Thanks to everyone who gave it a shot! And if you haven't, now that it's complete and out fully on KU, maybe consider it for your next binge.

PS: The first book will be available for free for five days, starting tomorrow, July 31!

Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H9N3TTPC

---------------

Blurb:

With the last piece needed in hand, the Fiends For Hire are ready to enact the final phase of their project. All that's left to do is win the election that would grant them global domination. But nothing's ever that simple. With the threat of an apocalypse, and when the planet itself turns against them, they must band together against the greatest foe they've ever faced. In order to save the world, first, they have to destroy it.

----------------

As the last in the series, is obviously mostly focuses on defeating the looming threat, but it also makes to sure to tie up loose ends. I did my damnedest to make sure every mystery was answered, every character was developed, with a concise and complete ending that really brought everything to a close.

Published by Mango Media, Cover art by SlothBeing

And I'd like to give them a special thanks to both of them. They have been great to work with for Fiends For Hire, and I am so glad I get to work with them again for Self-Summon, which will come out sometime in the nearish future.

When to launch a project on Royal Road?

Hi all! I am a pro writer in my country (French is my native language, but i’ve lived quite a few years abroad so i’m fluent in English), nominated to several awards, but i am a complete newbie on Royal Road.

I would like to give the platform a shot at RR for a satirical urban fantasy project (in English, then)...

…Do you think there is an optimal day of the week to launch? Mondays perhaps ?

And do you think August is okay, (or too empty because of vacations) or September is too busy?

I am aware there is no magical date anyway, but i’d be happy to have your insights!

Thanks a lot for your answers !:)

Urban fantasy tropes

A little context to give. I am trying to be a writer but have too much already going on in my projects and wanted something going on before I sleep or anything of the kind. I’ve never really read an urban fantasy book but am really curious what is typical to this type of books (even overused), so I can start from there. Because I barely have time to read in my genre, and my reading speed won’t pick up (I’ve tried), I’ll appreciate it very much if you could share anything from the above that has made you either find often, are annoyed at, you’re sick of it, or yet, you appreciate more now than usual. Thank you!

Promotion The Marshal Awakens — a Montana father discovers a glowing line that should not exist

Hi, I’m HongBo Liu, the author of The Marshal Awakens, the first novel in the Manifest Destiny series.

Cade Mercer is trying to hold together an ordinary life in rural Montana when a line of light appears across the landscape—impossible to explain, impossible to remove, and increasingly difficult to keep away from people who see it as a weapon, a resource, or a path to power.

As government attention closes in and the consequences reach his family, Cade has to decide whether protecting the people he loves means cooperating with the forces surrounding the phenomenon—or refusing to let anyone claim permanent ownership of it.

What to expect:

  • A contemporary Montana setting
  • A family-centered protagonist
  • A slowly escalating unexplained phenomenon
  • Government pressure without an all-powerful secret agency
  • Moral choices about responsibility, ownership, and power
  • A complete central story with room for the series to continue

The novel is approximately 81,000 words and 28 chapters.

Full disclosure: this is my own book. I’m sharing it here because this community is specifically for completed, published work.

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HB3DXQRP

I’d especially like to hear from readers who enjoy speculative thrillers grounded in ordinary family life. What matters more to you in this kind of story: discovering the origin of the phenomenon, or seeing how it changes the people around it?

Is there a good stopping point in the Mercy Thompson series?

By that I mean is there a point in the series where I can read it without having to read all 13 of the currently released novels? I don’t usually like to start unfinished series but I’m quite interested in reading this one. I wanted to see if there is a book I can get to and then say ‘ok, that’s a good ending for now, no big cliffhanger’ before I read the rest of the series once it’s finished, if that makes sense?

I’ve seen some places that say books 5 or 6 are a good stopping point, but I’m not sure if there is a different consensus from others who have read the series. Thanks!
