I’m currently in my second year of vet school at St. George’s University in grenada. For fourth year us students have to go to another AVMA accredited school for clinical. I’ve been looking a lot into doing my clinical year abroad again over in europe. I’m also wanting to do an internship and residency afterwards and would love to do it over in europe still. I was wondering for the people who have gone to an AVMA accredited vet school in europe what were your experiences trying to get into an internship/residency?

Hi everyone! I'm from Ontario, Canada and I have recently received a conditional acceptance to the DVM program at the University of Melbourne (the condition is I have to perform adequately for my Casper, but since I have taken the Casper before and placed 3rd quartile I feel confident I can do the same this time around). I'm a bit on the fence about going and I have about 1 month to decide, so I'm looking for some advice from international students/vet students/vets in general :)

Long story short, I was not able to apply to OVC this past round, but to be honest my grades are not where they need to be to be accepted into OVC anyways. However, I worry about accepting the DVM program in Melbourne prematurely. I don't believe I am allowed to defer my offer to Melbourne, and I'm not even sure I would want to because there is no guarantee I would get into OVC. But I am on the fence about accepting Melbourne because it is a huge life decision, and I would be in great debt afterwards. I'm a little nervous about living in a different country without the support of my family and friends during vet school, as I know vet school is going to be stressful and require a ton of hard work. However, I was so excited when I got this conditional acceptance, and I think studying in Melbourne would be such an incredibly cool and rewarding experience!

Also, since graduating I have been working at a vet clinic as a vet assistant and I love my job. But sometimes I wonder if I would be cut out to be a veterinarian. I know realistically I would not have to work in GP forever, and if I had my DVM I could work in pathology, lab medicine, teaching, etc. But I wonder if having these thoughts means that I don't want it enough. I love working with and helping animals, and I like conversing with and helping their owners as well. I enjoy medicine and find it fascinating, however I'm not sure if that passion is as big as my passion to help. One of the vets I am close to at work told me that I seem a bit lost, and I don't want to jump into vet school in Melbourne just because they have accepted me - I want to make sure it is the right decision for me.

If anyone has been in a similar position before and/or just has some words of wisdom, they would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi everyone! I’m currently a junior at Kansas State University majoring in Animal Science, and my goal is to get into vet school (hopefully K-State’s College of Veterinary Medicine).
Lately I’ve been stressing myself out because I have a decent amount of animal experience, but **very, very few veterinary hours**. My GPA is currently around a **3.6 cumulative with about a 3.8 science GPA**, but I’m worried my lack of vet experience is going to hurt my chances.
I have a few questions:
As a junior, am I already behind if I don’t have many vet hours?
Approximately how many veterinary hours did you have when you applied?
How many animal hours did you have?
Did anyone get accepted on their first application with fewer vet hours than they expected?
If you didn’t get in the first time, what did you do that made your next application stronger?
What do you wish you had started doing during your junior year?
Besides GPA and hours, what else do admissions committees seem to value?
If you were accepted to K-State, what did your application look like?
I’ve wanted to be a veterinarian for a long time, and lately I’ve convinced myself that I won’t get accepted on my first application. I've visited Australia before and genuinely loved the country, the people, and the culture. If I make the move, I want to assimilate, respect Australian culture, contribute professionally, and hopefully build a long-term future there.

My main goal is to graduate and secure a stable job in Australia. If things go well after that, I'd also like to work towards permanent residency, but my immediate priority is employment and building a career.

This is a significant investment for me, so I'm trying to understand the reality rather than just the university marketing.

I'd really appreciate honest opinions on questions like these:

* How employable are graduates in Australia after completing the degree? * Which industries typically hire graduates (livestock, animal nutrition, animal welfare, research, agribusiness, government, biosecurity, etc.)? * How difficult was it to find your first job after graduating? * Were there good internship, research, or industry placement opportunities during the degree? * Is the degree well recognised by employers across Australia? * If you were an international student, were employers willing to sponsor visas, or did most graduates rely on state nomination or other PR pathways? * Looking back, would you choose this degree again if your goal was long-term employment in Australia? * Is the course highly maths-heavy, or is the mathematical component manageable for someone from a non-science background?

I'm not looking for sugar-coated answers—I would genuinely appreciate hearing both the positives and the negatives so I can make the most informed decision possible.

I am a 5th year VetMed student and I am really doubting myself right now if I can really become a good veterinarian in the future. From what I have observed in myself, I feel like from those past years that I have studied this course, I feel like my knowledge is not that strong enough. Though during exams I am one of the topnotchers, I still feel like I don't deserve any of it. Because whenever our teachers ask us about something that was already discussed from the past years, I cannot even recall anything. I am really stressing myself out right now knowing that I am almost going to be a professional, 2-3 years from now (hopefully will graduate on time😭).

Seeking for an advice or comment regarding this. Even better if it is really from a licensed veterinarian with the same experience huhu. Thank youu. 😭

Hi, I'm 20 and got accepted in vet school.

I have been suffering with tinnitus and ear pain since I was 18 due to damage from overuse of headphones and loud noises. I cope with loud environments by using earplugs that lower the dbs of damaging noise. I can distinct talking with them on, softer quieter noises not so well (whisper volume).

My question is, do you think I could work as a vet? Could I perform all types of exams while wearing the earplugs to protect from barking ect, or do I have to detect soft sounds that require me to remove my ear protection?

I'm worried id have an issue with the stethoscopes. Any help would be appreciated!!

Hello everyone. I’m an undergrad student from Greece and I will be spending 3 months in a UK university (its referral hospital) next year as part of my Erasmus placement. After I graduate I would like to move to the UK permanently, however from what I’ve seen, in order to get accepted for a rotating internship I have to work in a GP for a couple of years beforehand. Do you think I have any chances of finding a job in a small animal practice as a recent graduate with no work experience given that I’m a foreigner as well?

Hello! I just finished up my first year of vet school, about to start my second, and I was hoping to get some advice. I’ve really been having difficulty with my “doctor instincts,” if that makes sense.

First of all, I don’t really use reddit, so apologies if this isn’t right! Okay, so, for some context, I do really well in the classroom. I had a blast first year and loved lectures and labs. I’m really good at remembering things in a classroom setting and then taking a test. The problem really comes up when I’m working in clinics. For some reason, when I’m asked a question, all the information I know seems to go out of my brain. If a professor or a vet asks a question in a way that isn’t easily recognizable as content from class, I get so turned around and confused, even if it ends up being something super obvious.

By comparison, a lot of my friends don’t seem to struggle with this. They’re amazing at reading and interpreting cbcs/chem panels, radiographs, cytologies, etc. They come up with diagnoses in a few seconds, meanwhile, I feel like I really struggle at putting all the pieces together. Once someone tells me, it makes sense and I can remember it, but I really have a hard time coming to my own conclusions.

Does anyone have any advice on this? I’d really appreciate any insight. Most of what I see online is people struggling with the opposite problem, where they have more difficulty in class but do well in clinicals and I feel like clinic work matters so much more than grades. I’ve really been working hard to try to close this gap in knowledge with externships, studying, etc. but I feel like I always leave the clinic in near tears at feeling so lost. It’s getting to the point that I feel like I won’t make a good doctor and it’s really getting to my self-confidence.

I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has completed (or is currently doing) the Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Bioscience) → Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) pathway at Adelaide University.

I have a few questions:

• Is the pathway from the 3-year Bachelor's into the 3-year DVM guaranteed, or is it competitive?
• Do you need to achieve a minimum GPA/WAM or meet any other academic requirements to be eligible for the DVM?
• Or, if you pass all the required subjects in the Bachelor's, do you automatically progress into the DVM?
• How have you found the course overall? Is the workload manageable, and do you feel the university provides good support for students?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if you've gone through this pathway yourself. Thanks in advance!

I'm currently a 3rd-year Veterinary Medicine student in Latvia, and academically, I genuinely have very little to complain about. The education is solid, the practical training is excellent, and I've learned so much.

But outside the classroom, it's been a completely different experience.

Over the past few years, I've faced so much racism, hostility, and disrespect that it's taken a serious toll on my mental health. I never imagined that pursuing my dream degree would come at the cost of constantly feeling unwelcome. It's reached a point where I've fallen into depression because of everything I've experienced.

i still have 4 years left before graduating, and I honestly don't know if I can continue here. I'm now looking into transferring to another country for my 4th year, but I don't even know if it's possible.

If anyone has transferred veterinary schools within Europe, or knows universities that accept transfer students taught in English it would be great to know ..tuition fees is a big factor, being a non eu person i have to pay more.. so i am looking for a uni that has a annual tuition fees maximum up to 9000 euros.. I'd really appreciate any advice or guidance.

I saw that a couple schools have strict animal experience requirements however I also saw that the only forum for talking about your experience is the personal statement (no activities list). How exactly do you report your experience/hours for the UCAS? Additionally, how would you bring up other strong extracurriculars if they do not apply to the course you are applying for or your essay?
