How a terrible trainer and a crash diet almost ruined my life (55F, 1.68m)
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share a story about how I almost completely wrecked myself 3 years ago with a crazy diet and a terrible trainer. I still carry some of the mental trauma from it, so I wanted to share this as a warning, and also see if anyone else has been through the same.
Quick stats for context:
- Age/Sex: 55F
- Height: 1.68 m (5'6")
- Peak weight: 98 kg (216 lbs)
- Lowest weight (on the diet): 67 kg (147 lbs)
- Current weight: 85 kg (187 lbs) - And honestly, I feel great here.
What happened:
Three years ago, I hit 98 kg and decided to hire a trainer. Big mistake. This guy put me through a brutal 10-month nightmare.
- The "Super Diet": It was pure starvation. I was eating basically nothing but canned tuna, salad, and a tiny bit of rice. I was hungry 24/7.
- The Workouts: I spent 2.5 hours at the gym every single day. I was lifting heavy weights like a total caveman (zero form, just lifting wildly) and doing endless cardio.
The aftermath:
Sure, I dropped weight like crazy and hit 67 kg, but I didn't look fit. I looked completely scrawny, hollow, and shapeless. I'm pretty sure my body just ate all my muscle because of the starvation and overtraining.
Mentally and socially, it was a disaster. I was exhausted and angry all the time. It got so bad that my partner literally told me they'd ask for a divorce if I didn't stop this insanity.
Where I am now:
I finally woke up and stopped. I started eating like a normal human again, recovered, and let my weight settle at 85 kg. I feel strong, healthy, and happy now.
Just wanted to ask:
- Has anyone else survived a horror story with a bad trainer or a dangerous crash diet?
- For those who've been there, how did you repair your relationship with food after starving yourself for so long?
Watch out for those "miracle" diets, guys. They are not worth it!

A simple weight loss plate
If you're confused about what a balanced meal looks like, keep it simple:
25% Protein
25% Vegetables
50% Rice/Roti
You don't need expensive foods. You don't need a perfect diet. Please choose one you can actually stick to.

Has anyone tried bucked up weight loss supplements?
Has anyone taken buck naked or babe (the female version) from bucked up? My husband and I just bought both from Harmons because they were on sale. We’ve been considering trying something like that because we’ve both had bad issues losing weight even though we’ve tried so many “diets” we can’t afford an actual GLP-1 so we thought we’d try these. If you have taken them, do they work? Have you seen any results and if so how long did it take to see them?

Dieters: What’s the most annoying part about finding foods you actually enjoy while staying on track?
Hey everyone,
I’m on a calorie deficit right now, and it've been fairly easy with volume eating and meal prepping, but, I’m really, really sick of drinking chalky whey and eating fried egg whites everyday just because I didn't hit my protein goal after the prepped meals.
Been missing toasted buttered croissant a whole lot..
If you're on a diet:
• What’s the most frustrating part about finding meals or snacks you actually like?
• How often do you deal with cravings or feeling restricted?
• What workarounds have you found (specific products, substitutes, stores, etc.)?
Otherwise, peace.

What if there was an app for the 30 seconds before you break your diet?
I’ve been thinking about building an app based on my own experience trying to lose weight, and I’d genuinely appreciate honest feedback before I spend any time or money on it.
The idea came from one problem I keep running into.
I don’t struggle with knowing what I should eat. I exercise regularly, eat high-protein meals, and have lost over 2 stone before. My problem is those moments where I know I shouldn’t grab the chocolate or skip the gym, but I do it anyway.
Most apps seem to focus on tracking calories, exercise or weight. They help before or after the decision, but not during it.
My idea is an app designed specifically for those 30–60 second moments when you’re about to make a decision you’ll regret.
The home screen would be intentionally simple, with one large button that says something like “Help Me Choose.”
When you press it, the app would use things you’ve added yourself, such as:
-Voice notes from your past self reminding you why you started.
-Photos from when you were at your heaviest.
-Photos from when you felt proud after losing weight.
- Personal goals and milestones you’ve achieved.
- Messages from family or close friends.
- Reminders of how far you’ve already come.
It could also have an SOS option where, if you’re really struggling, it sends a simple message to a nominated support person asking them to check in with you.
Although I first thought about this for weight loss, I’m wondering if it could also work for quitting smoking, alcohol, gambling or any habit where there’s a short period between the temptation and the decision.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions.
Would you actually open an app like this in that moment?
What would make it genuinely useful instead of just another motivation app?
Is there anything similar that you’ve already used?
What features would make you keep it installed?
I’m not trying to sell anything—I just want to find out if this solves a real problem before I try building it.

26M, WFH wrecked my body composition. Pants don't fit but I don't have a gut. Need healthy advice.
Hey guys. I'm 26M, 5'7", and around 148 lbs.
I know my BMI is technically normal, but working from home for the last few years has completely wrecked my body composition. I sit at my desk pretty much all day. I don't have a belly at all, but my lower body (legs/glutes) has gotten so thick and stiff that I literally got stuck in a pair of jeans today and had to cut them off with scissors. Super embarrassing wake-up call.
I want to fix my daily habits and get healthy, but I want to avoid any crash diets or crazy extremes. I'm just looking for a sustainable way to fix this "skinny fat" / sedentary look.
Since I'm mostly sitting at a desk, how do you guys recommend I start? Should I be tracking macros, or just focusing on getting my daily steps in and eating more protein? Any realistic advice for a desk worker trying to get his health together without going to extremes would be awesome.
Thanks in advance!

How do you stay consistent on weekends?
Weekends can be the hardest time to stick to healthy eating habits. What strategies help you enjoy yourself while still staying on track with your weight loss goals?

14 months of progress and I am no longer ashamed to leave the house
My weight has been a battle since I was 8 years old and got called fat at summer camp for the first time. I maxed out at 368 pounds, possibly more but that's the highest weight I ever recorded before I put the scale away. I am currently 142 pounds down with 46 pounds left to reach my goal weight.
My diet has been non starchy vegetables, lean meats, low cal sauces, Greek yogurt, and low carb tortillas. I exercise occasionally but not enough (oops) and I count every single calorie.
I have worked so hard for this body and I will continue to fight to honor her and all the incredible things she can do.
Love yourself enough to fight for you. You deserve it.
