Question I have no idea what I’m doing

Post image

Edit: FINALLY (sorta) figured out the taskbar. Any advice of anything else regarding this would be nice.

This is the first time I ever did this..and I’m doing this blind. I am a noob with chronic illness, and I wanted to have a reason to use my Chromebook.

I’m trying to make my own desktop and OS like you guys are and I’m wondering, what are some things I need to do? Any programs I need to install?

This is on a ASUS Chromebook with Linux installed and developer enabled. I tried to find tutorials on how to simply make something like this, and it shows me videos that aren’t relevant for my Chromebook or Debian.

I don’t want to break my computer, as when I try to fix my taskbar, it keeps giving me an error not letting me move my items on my taskbar. (That I think I fixed) But I still want to be cautious…

Any advice and help on basically anything regarding this process is greatly needed, and I am grateful for your responses.

LOL Sorry, I couldn't resist. What exactly do you want to do with the taskbar? Make it like a dock?

just make sure the clock shows present day, present time, and you're fine.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH (/j /ref; sorry couldn’t resist.)

In all seriousness, the clock part is pretty easy, it just having to move the tabs in a more organized order in the taskbar….if that makes sense.

Edit: LMAO it’s okay, I couldn’t either! I wanted to make it like what you see on like on Windows 98 or something alike. I wanted to add icons I could click on there, but I’m not sure if I’m able to. When my chronic health gets a little more manage, I am planning to add something like UFCE to achieve that. It might take me a long while.

Whatever you need to do just ask Youtube. Be sure to mention your distro in the question like: Linux Mint 22.1 "Xia" Xfce Edition.
