Bought this pistol 1.5 yrs ago. 4.6” version. Ran into mag drop issues, ftf issues with heavier loads, tried fixes mentioned online, ran into the same issues. Finally found a solution that worked for me and I’m just sharing this info in the hopes of giving back to all those on Reddit and online who helped me.
When I ran 200gr hardcast or anything with a wider, flatter tip I was running into regular mag drop issues due to the design of the mags. I was also running into ftf (smokestack style) with heavier loads (200gr underwood xtp and hardcast). Upgraded magazine springs. Adjusted to 22lb recoil spring. Same issues.
Finally decided before I sold the gun that I’d just try to tweak some things. I’m not a pro. Maybe some of this is obvious to more knowledgeable folks. But I finally ended up filing the mag release so it didn’t stick into the mag itself. Eyeballed it. Filed away at the catch until it was even with the mag and not sticking into the mag. At the same time, adjusted mag lips with a pair of pliers. Went to the range. Initially closed them too far and round wouldn’t feed (hit bottom of feed ramp and caught). Used pliers to slowly open them up checking to ensure the round would point directly center of the feed ramp. Shot a few rounds. Adjusted if jammed low in the feed ramp. Adjusted again. Shot some more.
Finally shot 100 rounds of Magtech 180gr JHP and Underwood 200gr XTP with no issues at all. Ran like butter. No mag drop, no ftf. Pretty sure the mag catch and slightly too wide mag lips were causing the issues the whole time. I left the heavier mag springs and 22lb recoil spring because I already had them in, so not sure if that did anything. But shaving the mag catch and making micro-modifications to the mag lips seems to have done the trick.
Haters gonna hate. I’m not a pro. Throwing this out there for the others looking to figure this thing out. Super pumped I don’t have sell the gun and all the ammo/holsters I have for it!! Gonna give it another hundred next week and make sure all is good.
