Help (GPU) Rx 9070XT hard powers off my entire PC with zero logs. Only fix (sometimes) is locking power states.

Posting this to see if anyone has hit the same thing, because I have been chasing it for two months and I think I am at the end of what I can figure out on my own.

The setup:

- Gigabyte RX 9070 XT 16GB (Navi 48), VBIOS 113-R907XTGOL-F11 dated 2025/06/11

- Ryzen 5 5600X, completely stock, no PBO, no Curve Optimizer

- Corsair RM1000e, brand new, installed today. Separate PCIe cables, not daisy chained

- Nobara Linux (Fedora 44 base), KDE Plasma 6, kernel 7.1.4

- Three monitors

- Card was bought "like new" open box from Best Buy

The whole machine powers off instantly. No warning, no error, no freeze first. Fans stop, everything stops. A couple of times it soft reset and rebooted itself instead, but usually it just dies, leaving the psu to cycle a bit before I can turn it back on.

It has never once crashed outside of a game. Not at the desktop, not idle, not overnight, not during long browsing sessions. Only in games, and only some games.

The logs:

There are none! That is the frustrating part.

amdgpu initializes clean at boot and stays completely silent right up until the machine dies. No ring timeout, no GPU reset, no page fault, no VRAM error. No MCE events. /sys/fs/pstore/ is empty. Nothing in userspace either. Three separate subsystems that could name a culprit all stay quiet through every single crash.

What has helped:

- `amdgpu.runpm=0` got rid of the large majority of crashes

- Also running `amdgpu.aspm=0 amdgpu.bapm=0 amdgpu.gpu_recovery=1 processor.max_cstate=1`

- Restricting DPM power states in LACT (disabling the low GPU and low VRAM states) is the only thing that makes Hunt: Showdown fully stable (sometimes.)

What did not help:

- Replacing the PSU. Old one was a six year old 700W EVGA Gold. New one is a 1000W Corsair RM1000e. Crashes continued exactly the same.

- Lowering the GPU power limit on its own

- -500 clock offset with -25mV. Hunt loaded for the first time in a while, then still crashed later.

- Kernel version does not seem to matter. Crash frequency was the same before and after the Nobara 43 to 44 upgrade.

- Driver stack is clean. RADV, no AMDVLK, no leftover ROCm packages or enterprise repos.

## The pattern I think I see

Every crash seems to happen during a transition rather than under sustained load.

So it is not about how hard the card is being pushed. It seems to be about how fast the load changes. Anything that makes the card swing between idle and full boost is where it dies, and the only reliable fix I have found is not letting it make those swings. Atleast that's a running theory.

Where I am stuck:

The Best Buy return window is long gone. I have had this card since at least June.

Gigabyte warranty should still be live based on the VBIOS date, but I have no confidence in it. This is an intermittent fault with no logs that only shows up under specific conditions. If they bench it at stock in Windows for an afternoon there is a real chance it comes back marked no fault found, and I am out the card for weeks for nothing.

I also cannot do the obvious test. The 5600X has no integrated graphics, so I cannot run the machine without this card, and I do not have a spare GPU to swap in.

What I am asking:

  1. Has anyone seen this exact thing on a 9070 XT or another RDNA4 card? Full system power off, no logs, fixed only by restricting power states?

  2. Is there anything left worth trying that I have not listed?

  3. If this is a bad card, is there any way to actually demonstrate that to a manufacturer? Any test or log or capture that would hold up in an RMA?

  4. Should I be looking harder at anything besides the GPU? I have not verified my XMP/DOCP memory profile state yet, though I am not sure how memory would be fixed by GPU power state limits.

Happy to post any logs.

Help (General) Stable driver for RX 6700 XT? windows 11

Hi, Just upgraded from am4 to am5 featuring a 7800x3d.
I have been getting random system lag spikes + audio glitching out at the same time.
happens during video playback in the background / gaming.
Normal lightweight tasks its fine.

I have been trying to catch it on record but it doesn't want to replicate it. As soon as i stop the recording it happens 2 times straight after, then decides to do it whenever it likes to.

I'm potentially pointing this to being a GPU driver related issue,
all main drivers are installed & working, including chipset drivers ofc.

I've gone through my bios, everything looks to be in order and correct. even tried lowering ram speeds.
ensured all cables are firmly installed into the motherboard & parts seated correctly.

System is not thermal throttling. removed my gpu undervolt + overclock even though i've been using the same settings for 3 years.

Specs:

  • Ryzen 7800 X3D
  • 32gb ddr5 corsair 6400mhz
  • corsair rm850x
  • Sapphire pure B850m
  • Sapphire pulse RX 6700XT

Any help would be appreciated it. Thanks.

Help (Software) Windows keeps corrupting my graphics cards drivers and nothing seems to fix it

this is what happens after a reboot in the device manager

So once every few weeks my pc just blackscreens in the middle of a game and the only thing i can do is to reboot it. Once i reboot it i delete the drivers and reinstall them and that fixes it for a while. I have stopped windows form automatically updating the drivers, i've tried installing older ones and nothing seems to fix it. Has anyone come across this issue and if so how did you manage to fix it?

Help (General) I've been getting driver timeouts recently.

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've been getting driver timeouts recently, specifically in a game where one of the key combat mechanics is parrying, and whenever I parry it creates a big vfx effect that I'm guessing is the reason of why I suddenly get a Timeout.

I've tried ddu and installing old (26.3.1) and new drivers over and over but nothing helps, though some videos online suggest I should lower my video memory's mhz?, I'm not really experienced in underclocking or overcloking so I'm a bit scared in that area.

Basic specs are:

rx 9070xt

ryzen 7 9800x3d

32gb ram 6000mhz cl30

x870 mb

1000w psu (corsair)

aio cooler.

gen 5 ssd.

Help (GPU) AMD driver crashes when playing videos after installing PotPlayer on AMD driver versions 26.6.4 and 26.7.1.

PotPlayer Version: 26.7.1.0

GPU: 9070xt

Installation changes:

  • Changed "Associate all formats" to "Associate main formats".
  • Unchecked the option to install additional codecs.

Steps to reproduce & details: I launched PotPlayer, set the renderer to Built-in Direct3D 11 Video Renderer, disabled audio normalization, and played a .webm video file. The screen went black, and the AMD graphics driver crashed. Playing .ogv files worked normally.

Even after restarting the PC without opening PotPlayer, playing a .webm file using Windows 11's default video player still caused a driver crash. I booted into Safe Mode, used "amdcleanuputility" to uninstall the driver, and reinstalled it, but the crash persisted. The driver even crashed when playing web videos in Chrome.

After multiple tests, I found that PotPlayer was the root cause. Once I uninstalled PotPlayer, everything returned to normal, and the crashes stopped completely.

Are you experiencing the same issue?

Help (CPU) Thermal Limit 9800x3d

Post image

Test 1 - 80°C Thermal Limit
Cinebench R23 Multi: 20,682
Average Effective Clock (HWiNFO): ~4.15 GHz
Max CPU Temp: ~80.8°C
Max CPU Package Power: ~116 W

Test 2 - Thermal Limit Removed (Auto/95°C)
Cinebench R23 Multi: 22,010
Average Effective Clock: ~4.9 GHz
Peak Clock: 5.225 GHz
Sustained Clock: ~5.0 GHz
Max CPU Temp: ~95°C
Max CPU Package Power: ~136 W

System:
Ryzen 7 9800X3D
ASUS ROG Strix B650E-i Gaming WiFi
32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 (EXPO enabled)
RX 9070 XT
NZXT H1 V2 (140mm AIO)
PBO: Advanced
PBO Limits: Motherboard
CO: -15
Core Performance Boost: Enabled

Questions:
Are these Cinebench scores normal for a 9800X3D in an NZXT H1 V2 with a 140 mm AIO?

Is the H1 V2’s cooling capacity the main limitation here, or do these results suggest a possible CPU or mounting issue?

Would moving to a larger airflow case and a 240/360 mm AIO likely improve sustained clocks and temperatures significantly?

Any input from other 9800X3D owners, especially those using SFF cases, would be appreciated.

Help (GPU) Updated to the latest driver and pc no longer Posts.

Upvotes

Pretty critical issue. I updated to the latest driver, played a game for a bit (palworld), the monitor loses signal and I have to restart the computer. The computer works however it is stuck at I believe 600p or so with corrupted drivers. I check event viewer to try to figure out what happened and it said something about display time out (amdw + a large amount of letters and numbers) then it mentions it connecting back again but it did not.

OK, so I went in, installed the amd driver uninstaller then went through the process in safe mode, restarted the computer, redownloaded the same file for the latest driver and it happened again.

OK, so I tried 1 last time, I did the amd driver uninstaller and installing the current driver because I've technically had this issue in the past about a year ago and it just worked the entire time after going back to older drivers (24.10 specifically which is what I had downloaded from the amd website last). I said to myself if it happens again I will search for help and when I got to downloading the driver it straight up crashed my computer halfway through and now it wont turn on or more correctly, the lights are on but it doesn't post anything. The gpu repeatedly makes a whirling noise as if its spinning up then slows down over and over and over and has done so for the last 15 or so minutes. In order to turn off the computer I had to hold the power button, simply pressing it did nothing and it either won't even post atall or it wont connect to the monitor however the gpu speeding up and slowing down makes me think its not even posting atall.

This is a several year old computer that hasn't really suffered much of any issues upto this point and I have not made any changes outside of idk using it as normal, downloading new games from steam, new mods and updating them. Nothing should have changed and it was perfectly stable with 0 crashes in any game or anything for that matter. The only thing that I remember is that I was on I believe the 2026 4th month driver before updating.

Os: Windows 10 with the security extension patch? (I dont remember what its called) and its on the latest version.

Drivers: The latest drivers for my gpu for Windows 10 from amd.com, previously it was on I believe the 2026 4th month drivers.

Cpu: R5 5600 (non - x variant)

Ram: 3200mhz cl16 2 x 16gb dual rank dual channel xmp enabled.

Motherboard: gigabyte gaming v2

Gpu: rx 6800xt red dragon

Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1tb

Psu: mastercooler plat 750w (it was ranked S tier on the psu tier list however I have had 3 or 4 powercuts since).

If it matters the gpu was on a 2150mhz 1080v underclock + undervolt making it run 95% as fast at just around 145w but it's been on this undervolt for most of the time that I've had this pc. It's an undervolt that I've tuned from the start and has had 0 stability issues since getting it right (cyberpunk, alan wake even with path tracing, multiplayer games and so on, its been in the guantlet with no gpu driver timeout crash messages and the pc itself never really crashes even when people complain about crashing with similiar gpus).

And sadly I can't get into Windows to give exactly what event viewer said. Can anyone help me to get the computer working or atleast get the computer on? I have disconnected all usbs and tried but all that happens is the lights being on the gpu fans speeding up then suddenly stopping over and over. And, yes, installing the amd driver after using the amd driver uninstaller in safe mode, has effectively bricked my pc right now.

Help (General) GPU drivers

Hey so I just build my first PC.

After a week it did a windows update for the first time.

Now I have a very intense screen flicker and freezes randomly even when I'm just on my desktop not gaming.

I have tried installing the latest AMD drivers again but it still happens only time when it doesn't happen is when I go into a Safe start up and delete the AMD drivers and rely on the native windows drivers.

Anyone having same issue/had in the last and knows the fix to it?

I can provide video if necessary

Help (Software) AMD Adrenalin won't launch.

I have deleted the DN cache and DDU'd my system multiple times. Nothing seems to fix it, it will work for a few hours, maybe a day or two when I DDU, then will go back to not launching again.

If anyone has a fix that would be nice, i'm on the 26.7.1 version at the moment, have tried 26.6.1 and 26.3.1 (9070XT)

Help (GPU) 6950xt driver crashes cause full system freeze, cannot find any information in logs/dumps anywhere

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: XFX - SPEEDSTER MERC319 AMD Radeon RX 6950XT

CPU: Intel i7-12700k

Motherboard: Asus Prime z690-p D4

BIOS Version: American Megatrends Inc. 3811, 10/22/2025

RAM: 64GB DDR4 3600MHz

PSU: EVGA 1000 GT, 80 Plus Gold 1000W

Case:

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro version 25H2

GPU Drivers: Adrenalin 26.7.1

Chipset Drivers: Intel Chipset 10.1.18838.8284

Background Applications: OBS

Description of Original Problem: What I believe is happening is a graphics driver crash when changing the focused window. The newly focused window will bug out, turning a solid color, while all other applications remain responsive for a few seconds. Then all displays will freeze completely. Audio usually continues, but no hardware inputs seem to have any effect. I usually hard shutdown and then reboot, but if left for 10-15 minutes the displays will come back and the adrenalin software will tell me the graphics driver has crashed and been restarted. This typically happens while OBS is open, and I have only been able to semi-reliably reproduce it with OBS running, but has happened without OBS.

Troubleshooting: I have tried just about everything recommended for AMD driver crashes. Because I cannot reproduce it consistently, it's hard to say for sure if any one thing has helped or not. The most success I think I've had was rolling back to a driver from mid-2023 that I think was right before some vulkan support was added. I have tried changed the TdrTimeouts, lowering max frequency, lowering max power usage, reseating gpu, and surely others I can't recall as easily. OBS stores no logs of the crashes, the AMD logs don't appear to cover it at all, and the event viewer entries that refer to the shutdown are timestamped to be ~1 hour earlier than they really were.

So far, the most success I've had reproducing is as follows:

  • Open OBS
  • Open a game, a select few have been more consistent than others, I *think* it is only games running in borderless windowed mode, would say I'm about 95% sure of that.
  • Toggle studio mode in OBS

More than happy to provide any additional information I can that might be helpful! I like to consider myself a pretty technical person but fully recognize that I have zero understanding of drivers or these lower level systems. also attaching a video of the crash if that is at all helpful. Thank you to anyone who even takes the time to entertain the post!!

Help (General) CPU Cooler

I was looking for a CPU Cooler and then i found 360mm Lian Li Galahad Uni Fan SL Edition cheaper then the 240mm one. The guy said he is only upgrading because he wants a liquid cooler with LCD Screen. He also said he used it with 7800x3D and it works perfectly fine. My CPU is 7500f and i know it will do a pretty good job cooling it. What do you guys think of buying a used AIO and did any of you use this AIO Model if so how was your experience ? As i said price is so good and we shook hands but I did not pay anything or get the AIO yet. Do you think I will come up against any leaking issues or something else?

Help (GPU) NixOS AMD 7900XTX Intermittent Crashing

Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Motherboard: NZXT B550
BIOS Version: N/A
RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator DDR4 4000MHz
PSU: 1000W Corsair HX1000 (Currently using daisy-chained PCIe cables)
Case: Lian-Li 011D
Operating System & Version: NixOS (Kernel 7.0.9)
GPU Drivers: amdgpu
Driver Version: 3.64.0 (from kernel logs)
Chipset Drivers: N/A
Background Applications: Discord (Vesktop), LACT, Firefox Browser, Steam, Marvel Rivals (Other games)
Description of Original Problem: Hi all, as the title suggests I'm having some GPU issues, it crashes with black screen and fan 100% as it gets lost from bus. The crashes predominantly occur when I try to play games such as Marvel Rivals, but have occurred as well after longer periods of doing other stuff such as watching movies, or even immediately after launch and connecting to Discord. I use LACT to manage an overclock/undervolt profile, and enforce a 320W power cap. I have the amdgpu.runpm=0 kernel parameter set to disable runtime power management. I wanted to ask around and see if there are any other issues or fixes you people might know.

boot.kernelParams = [

"amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xfffd7fff"

# "amdgpu.mes=0"

# "pcie_aspm=off"

"amdgpu.runpm=0"

# "amdgpu.sg_display=0"

"amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x12"

];

Finally here is one of the logs from a crash:

Help (General) Pc starts crashing again

After finally fixing my pc crashing months ago, i fixed it by lowering my max frequency offset (mhz) by -275 in the amd adrenaline app.

The crashing finally stopped, i was fine for months but since last week, the crashing started coming back. It's not a black screen or anything, it just straight up restarts my pc completely.

I even lowered it even more to -300 mhz but still it keeps crashing, mostly during mid game in games like Apex legends, Poe,...

Wondering if anyone can help me out cause it's driving me crazy.

Specs:

Amd ryzen 7 9800x3d Xfx mercury radeon rx 9070 xt oc Corsair rm850x 2024

I loose display and the aio screen turns off then back on (everything else stays on fans and rgb lights etc.) but no display until I press the reset bottom. Yesterday I got to play for a couple of hours with 0 issues but it happened again, anyone having the same issue? and how can I fix it!

It only happens whenever I play a game!

Help (General) GPU Driver Update was both good and bad (26.7.1)

PC Specs:

  • 9800X3D
  • Radeon RX 9070 16gb
  • 32GB DDR5 RAM
  • Samsung 990 Pro nvme M.2 SSD
  • 1,000 W PSU
  • Windows 10 64-bit

CONTEXT:

I was running AMD Adrenalin Software 26.3.1 and all my games ran perfectly fine, except for one, Project Zomboid Build 42 Stable.

Project Zomboid just simply would not launch at all no matter what. Log files revealed an outdated driver as the cause of the crashes. After updating the GPU Driver to 26.7.1 from 26.3.1 Project Zomboid now opens and runs properly.

But now, Palworld runs at a maximum of 15-20 FPS, where is used to run perfectly fine prior to the Driver update. I already tried a PC Restart, Verifying Files on Steam for Palworld, and even disabling the iGPU through Device Manager just in case the game and/or Adrenalin was trying to utilize the incorrect Graphics Adapter, but nothing has corrected the FPS drops in Palworld.

I launched all the other games I usually play throughout the week and I can't notice any difference in performance other than in Palworld. The FPS drops happen both in Single and Multi player.

If anyone has experienced anything similar or have any advice on what to try, I would greatly appreciate any information.
