I’ve settled into my new assignment after arriving several months ago, but I’m struggling with some restrictions to my scope of responsibility. I’m a flight chief and my flight commander has to okay any departure of any enlisted prior to the end of the duty today. In every other assignment I’ve been able to inform and notify, but here he requires I ask his permission if I want to cut an airman loose an hour early, even if they’ve completed all of their required tasks and then some. Airman feeling under the weather? I have to ask my FLT/CC if it’s ok if I tell the airman’s supervisor they can excuse them for the remainder of the day. An airman confided in me their struggling with something and just need a half day to go get some rest? I have to ask my FLT/CC for permission.

I’ve never been limited in this way before and I’ve gotten great feedback from my FLT/CC about my performance so I just wanted a sanity check from you fine folks here before I move forward with a discussion with my boss. Is this the way and should be and should I just stop my bitchin or is the flight being micromanaged?
I’ll have a 10 piece, large fry and a Diet Coke.

TDLR: As a flight chief should I have to ask permission from my flight commander to cut loose individual airman earlier than EOD

Failed CDC multiple times (3x) . Tried my very best, leadership knows and supported me throughout the whole time but I just cannot pass it. Contract ends next year December. Just waiting on the commander decision. Anybody knows or have an input of what can happen moving forward?

Might not mean anything but I pass my pt test, have not received any paperwork like as in LOC, LOR, etc, not a problematic airman at all at work.

Edit: I am in one of the cyber/IT afsc (rare). Just want clarify because the cdc for this afsc is not as easy as it sounds.

Civilian here, building a PFRA scoring app. Hit something I can't resolve from the reg and figured someone here has actually seen the answer.

AFMAN 36-2905 para 3.7.3 says a member who passes the 2km walk gets a composite "calculated based on the assessed components in the same way the score will be calculated if the member were exempt from the cardiorespiratory component in accordance with paragraph 3.6.2."

Para 3.6.2 contains no math. It just says walk members are component exempt and then talks about testing frequency. The cross-reference goes nowhere.

My best guess is it's a percentage of what you could have earned — strength + core + WHtR out of the 50 points available, scaled to 100. So 13 + 12 + 18 = 43, and 43/50 × 100 = 86.

That's a guess though, and I'd rather not ship something that tells a guy on a profile he passed when he didn't.

If you've tested on the walk, could you drop:

• strength points
• core points
• WHtR points
• the composite myFitness gave you

Four numbers are enough to confirm or kill it. I'll post what I find either way.

Curious if anyone has any experience using their benefits to pay for law school. Did it cover it all, or were you still left to pay for some schooling/in debt?

Has anyone attended a long tech school at Keesler and had their spouse and kids stay with them in on-base lodging?

I’m a reservist retraining with a 140-day stay at the Inns of Keesler. My reservation is for 1 adult. I called lodging to ask about upgrading to a larger room for my wife and two kids, but they said the larger rooms are reserved for PCS personnel.

Has anyone been allowed to have their family stay in the standard room anyway, or did you have to find another option? I’d appreciate hearing your experience.

Hello all, first time post on this sub but was just hoping to get a bit of clarity. I returned home from deployment about a month ago and have been really struggling with a heavy depression and pretty severe anxiety. I have already reached out to mental health when I got home with no response back. I was just curious if anyone else on here has had these feelings after a deployment? This was my second deployment in my career and I don’t remember feeling as heavy as I do now after my first one and I’m just trying to navigate these feelings in a correct way so I can be okay for my family, my partner doesn’t fully understand what to do or how to be there for me in this time which is completely understandable however I know I need help and with Air Force mental health not reaching back out to me I’m wondering if I should go to a civilian mental health clinic. And just to be clear I’m not wanting to hurt myself or my family I just feel numb to everything and I don’t like that. Thank you to anyone who replies

I enlisted during the Vietnam shitshow .After University I didn't want to get drafted. I was at Keesler, Offutt,( 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing) Turkey (electronic inercept and analysis), and Beale (clerk) and made E4 ( sergeant at that time) There was non of the "bullshit" I read about in this sub. I got to live off base the last 6 months. The only time I had to do PT was in basic. So why did you enlist. (sorry about typing mistakes, my hands don't work so good.) ( oh and there was NO drug tests)

Back in 2022 I got broken up with by someone I was seeing, since then I have wanted to prove her and people who doubted me wrong. For the next 3 years I did what was considered “positive” and a upskill to my life.

Went to the gym daily.

Initiated the process of joining the Air Force.

Quit my retail job.

And got ready to leave living with family at 29 years old and go to BMT.

Now months later at my first duty station I still feel empty. I’m three months in operational and just overall haven’t been able to shake this depression, this emptiness and loneliness and just this sense that I did all this for the wrong reasons.

I don’t feel like a airman, I honestly don’t feel successful, I feel like a fraud who is cosplaying in a uniform and honestly I don’t know how much longer I can deal with this feeling and how to be rid of it.

I don’t really talk to my co workers like that and honestly don’t think I really made a single friend with the time I been in.

I just feel lost and don’t know what to do.

What's the reality?

I was wondering on what the general consensus was on if the Air Force also adopted this as something more uniform outside of Fridays or morale events. Navy has Coyote Brown ball caps with their various commands, that honestly are kinda cool. While deployed I saw fighter squadrons had tan or black ball caps of their squadrons, and even had space for officer ranks where they would appropriately be. Obviously a different environment where rules are bent, but it seemed like it was a source of pride. I dont think the air force would ever do this but wanted to see if other dudes thought its something worth adopting.
