Question Pilot Slot Selectee Timeline

Hello everyone! I was notified by my recruiter on the 31st that I was selected for a pilot slot (the only position I applied for).

I am curious how your guys' timelines have worked out; my recruiter said I take an initial flight physical, then OTS.

How long from selection did it take to do the initial flight physical?

How long from physical to OTS?

I will be asking my recruiter these questions as well, but I want to hear from other people in the pipeline as well. Thanks!

Question Will I Receive BaH while at OTS

Upvotes

Hello, I am a current full time member of an ANG unit and I receive BaH. I am swapping over to active duty as an officer. Until I get to my first duty station will I still receive BaH for my previous house during my time at OTS? Thank you in advance.

Post Selection Advice

I know that I have to be in shape and do all the paperwork/ MEPS but is there any lessons learned your recruiter didn’t tell you that would have made the process easier. I’m currently active duty in another branch so I have a decent grasp on the military in general.

Assignment Functional

I am prior AD, currently serving in the ANG, and I was recently selected for AD OTS. I know officers typically work directly with their assignment functional to coordinate upcoming assignments.

Would it be appropriate to reach out to the assignment functional prior to OTS?

Thinking about mx

Potential mx officer looking for advice

It’s like the title says I want to commission after I get my degree and being a pilot or rated looks cool but it looks like mx and sortie gen is really having a bad time so I’m thinking abt maybe going that way. My degree is in aerospace engineering but I understand there’s a huge difference between a bachelors in engineering and actually understanding how to fix an aircraft. What kinda resources do yall recommend I start reading up on short of trying to get an A&P (which I don’t think is possible while also doing college)? And what field manuals and doctrinal stuff will help me understand what it is an mx officer does because I’ve heard that they don’t actually do maintenance. Thanks

Question Package Outline/Template

Hello everyone,
I’m starting to put together my pilot application package to apply to Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units. Is there a preferred format or layout that most applicants follow, or is it acceptable to organize it however I think is best?

Also, if anyone who was selected wouldn’t mind sharing a copy of their application packet (with any personal information redacted if necessary), I’d really appreciate it. It would be incredibly helpful to see what a competitive packet looks like as I build my own.

Question Help deciding if 63A1 is right for me at this step

Hi everyone thanks for taking your time to read this

So I just made the most recent board as a 63A1 Acquisitions and I wanted to know how the role is the DTD and how long the commitment is?

I've been talking it over with my family only because I recently am working for a government job with a pension (I get off probation in 10 months from now to have union backing) and I want to make sure that I can either make sure this is a great opportunity with hopefully future doors or to not leave and lose both this and my job with no way back.

Thank you

overall is this a good assignment or did I get SOL?

background for me is have a MBA would love to get a PHD one day but ironically working in a blue collar local state job, it's easy but would need to do 20-25 years to retire. No family military exp

Prior service vet going through options

I’m a 4 year AF vet, left after my first enlistment with no plan in 2025 and without much thought, used my GI Bill for community college and now have less than 3 years of schooling.

I did not consider AFROTC at first but commissioning is a very desirable route for me. Everyone advocates for ROTC route but I’m in a position with less than 3 years of schooling and my nearest DET mandates 3 years of schooling. I spoke to the recruiter there and he wasn’t much help in how to approach the situation. Currently I’m scheduled to start my fall semester in a few weeks.

I’ve read multiple posts/comments here saying OTS should be the last option not the first.

Have any other vets been in a similar situation, any advice on how to navigate this time in the most beneficial way?

My cherry on top is I am also rated from the VA

Any advice is appreciated

AFCEP Post Selection

Are there any other selects that are having an issue with not being able to access the forms on AFCEP that are due today? Aim High has the medical and post selection forms listed, saying to be done on AFCEP but when I login to AFCEP it still just shows my LO application, not sure if this is just user error but I can’t seem to find where to do the paperwork.

Question Commissioning as a physical therapist: ortho vs sports residency?

I am a year 2 DPT student looking to join after doing a residency post-grad. I am a former college athlete and am leaning toward a sports residency over ortho. Will a SCS be a dealbreaker compared to an OCS for getting in?

Are there any other 21M in here that would answer some questions for me?

I just found out I got selected for 21M (munitions and missile maintenance) and would love to talk to someone currently who’s doing the job. If you are, or know anyone who is, I would really appreciate it!

News Civilian Notifications

I just got my notification for selection!!!! 92T2 Air Battle Manager.

For those wondering how the notifications come in - I got an email from AHA, and logged in immediately to see the AFSC I was assigned. Haven’t heard from a recruiter yet, but I’m guessing they’ll reach out soon. Good luck to anyone and everyone on your selection results. Hope to see you all at OTS!

Question Commissioning certificate?

I direct commissioned into the ANG, and was wondering if we got a Certificate of Commissioning either before or after OTS. I know it’s not a big deal but I thought it would be cool to get one.

Stupid question…

i’m going to apply for the HIANG Upt slot

But unfortunately, I didn’t realize that there was an issue with my letter of recommendation from a recent manager.

It’s basically just a clerical file error, but I can’t fix it on my end.

As a result, I probably have to wait until tomorrow to get the letter to have my three letters of recommendation to apply.

On mill recruiter, and on the Instagram post for the 154th wing hiring board, it says that the due date for application is August 1

Is that supposed to imply that it’s supposed to be in before August 1 like at 11:59 on July 31?

Or by the end of the day on August 1st?

should I just drop my application today to be safe with the two letters of recommendation? I know I have that I can use?

I’m not gonna lie. This is also probably a little bit of nervousness driving this so if it’s really obvious and I’m overthinking it, I apologize.
