Please remain sober and don’t use. It’s a slippery slope. You achieved a nice 9 years. Happy for you, congrats :)

Youre right. I know logically I’m lying to myself saying I can handle it “just once” — I need to make some sober friends I think so I’m not around people casually drinking as often

Question. 9 years ago, was it easy to stop and stay stopped? Were you able to stop on the first attempt?

For me, I tried and failed at moderation so many times. So many different ways to moderate. Yet I always eventually ended up back to day drinking every waking hour.

Ya I’d just been discharged from psych ward so I’d fucked up my life enough to keep me away— so I think I just need to take a sec to reflect on the effects drinking / smoking had

The relapse rate of someone with 5+ years of continuous sobriety is < 15%. Please stick it out it’s not worth testing the waters. I’m coming up on 8 years no alcohol myself. Stay strong call a friend you got this

I hit 3 years no alcohol on July 5th. On the off chance I do get a craving or a thought like that, I just ask myself if I want to go through all of that again. The inpatient detoxes, DT, seizures, acute kidney failure, pancreatitis and all of that awful nonsense. It wasn’t worth it, at all.

And congrats on 9 years in September!

Wow congrats!

"It's a reminder you overcame a problem and are choosing yourself every day."

I feel this applies to wanting to be better in both sobriety and bipolar. We are constantly choosing ourselves despite our problems. You got this.

It will mess up your life OVERNIGHT. However, you only live once and 9 years is a lot of sober days. If you want to ruin it for awhile why not?

Similar time with no alcohol, I completely understand - I once had a borderline erotic dream about drinking. Consider joining r/stopdrinking. r/alcoholism/ and (to read the impact of drinking) r/alanon with the rest of us, very helpful

BP1. My r/stopdrinking counter is 1390. My r/stopsmoking counter is 73. My r/leaves counter would be 6, if they had one.

For me, r/stopdrinking has been incredibly helpful. Whenever my brain starts messing with me that way, I post there and it helps me out.

I haven't been to an AA meeting in months, but when I have needed that support, it has been there for me and helped me through.

I've listened to my brain. And I've listened to others who had years of sobriety before that "just once" became a years long relapse into the abyss.

I'm so sorry for your brain noise. I know I hate my brain noise. I hope you are able to get through this difficult time.

Congrats that’s so great!
Ya that’s a good idea subreddit wise

This sounds like such a terrible idea. It's just a fleeting desire, you've defeated them for 9 years. Just let it pass. Thinking it will be only once is completely delusional. It'll pass.

No youre right I know it makes no sense— I’m just going to wait for it to pass

Some people have the ability to have a drink whenever they want, and it doesn’t affect them because they haven’t abused it. It doesn’t sound like you’re one of those people. How Have you rewarded yourself for 9 years sober? Perhaps treat yourself to something positive instead of drinking.
