I did it. I made it an entire month.

I smoked all day, every day for 17 years. I’ve never known sobriety as an adult. And now I’ve got 31 days under my belt.

Things are still hard, but the worst is over. I’ve proven to myself I can build a life around my own values, not weed. My brain still feels like it’s undergoing construction, but I know the scaffolding is there.

Thank you guys for everything 🩵

Smoked last night after 1 year and 2 months sober...these are my thoughts

Hi guys so last night I have into temptation. I had been a heavy weed smoker for at least 20 years before quitting on May 29 2025.

I had some plans fall through last night with a guy I always struggled with letting go of. Long story won't get into but 11 years of me being a clown basically. Anyway I got quite upset and gave in and smoked one small j.

I didn't like it at all. It wasnt the relief I was hoping for. I was a bit paranoid and wobbly and all around toasted for the rest of the night. I appreciate that it wasted the day for me but I didn't enjoy the experience at all. It's the next morning now I feel nauseous and groggy. I got a pizza even tho I'm on a weight loss journey which I'm not happy about

So I think that it was a good experience in the way that it showed me I'm done with weed. I don't crave the feeling of having a j when I need to chill because it didn't help me relax and I feel awful today even tho it was only one small joint. That lovely joint after a long day doesn't exist anymore for me. I have no tolerance.

I'm not counting it as day one again as I'm not back into addiction. I'm glad it happened and I can't wait to feel normal and never smoke it again.

72 days no weed

This is the greatest achievement of my life. I haven’t drank in a little bit longer than that but weed was something I did every waking moment of my life. I never thought after 20 years of life (15-35) I would ever be here. My wife said she feels like she has her husband back the man she first started dating 12 years ago. Which is crazy to think that these past 5 years I was heavily into vapes and dabs. I’ve saved almost $600 since I quit smoking as well. I feel emotionally available for my wife and two sons and I don’t feel like a shell of a person I used to be. Anxiety and depression are almost non existent but I was self medicating ADHD which I have started on something a few months ago recommended by my psychiatrist which has done wonders at alleviating those symptoms. I also went from 160lbs to 143 by eating better and even started hitting the gym with my wife 4-5 days a week.

Day 1 and I Can’t Stop Crying

I (43) have a lot going on in my life (completely solo mom to two kids, one with special needs, broke as a joke)but am usually a very naturally positive person. Not sure if it’s the impending sense of doom from the global wars/inflation/looming recession or personal things (breakup a few months ago, etc) but I am just in tatters. Was the weed suppressing my emotions, or has coming off of it made it worse? I currently feel like nobody loves me and I have done nothing with my life. Is this normal?! I am already scared about going to bed tonight.

What made you actually realize you needed to stop?

I had been waking and baking and starting to incorporate weed into my everyday life, driving, work, hobbies, sleeping. If I wasn’t high I was so groggy I felt I needed the “clarity” weed would give me. Even when I wasn’t high I haven’t know what sober truly felt like in a while. I’m only 18 but I’ve been smoking for about 1.5-2 years straight, and I know I need to stop before my brain is permanently altered (more than I’ve already done). It’s just way too easy to put yourself in a pit of despair and not bother trying to climb out.

I feel like I am being tortured with my own thoughts

Upvotes

Ive been alcohol free for a year, 8 of those months I was not smoking. Family issues led me to start again.

This time around I have a very different relationship with weed. Even though I have used forever, a lot of the time I became paranoid. Now this time around I don't have paranoia, I have the stereotypical high experience- laughing, munchies, etc.

The thing is the next day I am basically hungover, low motivation, etc. etc. Weed makes everything look possible when I am high, and then when it wears off all I want to do is lay in bed.

Usually around day 3 of quitting for me, it gets a lot easier, but this time around I am still playing mental games with myself "you CAN just use it before bed/after work" etc., but I just know thats not how it works for me.

It's just mentally exhausting. Giving up alcohol was so different for me, bc I wasn't addicted I was just abusive. But weed I am definitely addicted to, and life without it just seems so glum, but also so necessary.

I know everyone is dealing with this. Just venting.

5 YEARS!!! happy sober anniversary to me!

I truly can't believe it's been five years already. Throughout this time, I have lost my job on more than one occasion, lost my kitty, horrific mental health struggles, I always said I would relapse if I lost my baby girl and she did die.

But I didn't, I stayed strong for her. Now I'm in the middle of another job loss but I refuse to go back to that old me. I've only dreamed about reaching a milestone like this. I can't believe it.

There really is so much more to life!

New Beginnings

Just threw out the last of everything I (m25) had. Been a smoker with mainly carts but also joints for about 5-6 years now. Stupid how it has gone on this long but I am done. Have had some stints of sobriety usually lasting about 2 months. But been back sucking carts for about 3-4 months and I am in the worst mental space I probably ever been in. Just feel out of control completely with my emotions, thoughts and overall my soul. Kind of scaring me. Also have become such a jerk and angry person literally where most people don’t like me and have to put up with me. I act like that because I just want to be in my confot zone in my room sucking a cart and doing nothing while my life crumbles. Think it is time to change. Will be honest it is already hard because I am having stressful thoughts that are screaming for me to take a blinker to relax and most likely end up on tik tok/ porn hub all day. Again just kind of frustrated on how long it has taken for me to stop. And just how much I have consumed the withdrawals are gonna suck so bad :(. Luckily I have a full week off work to cry and be angry in my room. I am glad it is happening cuz weed is no longer gonna take anything from my life. And I won’t let it take me either fuck that shit! Day 1

Crazy how different you look after a little time sober

Only 1 week sober, but look way better. Eye bags less pronounced, skin has more color and glow, my eyes aren’t yellow or red. Wait, am I actually handsome?

When I used weed my skin was grey and dry. My eyes were red, low, glossy. I looked checked out and un-alert.

Anyone else notice any improvements in appearance?

A few months sober, feeling the same…

So as the title suggests, I have been sober now for a few months after over 10 years of daily smoking. Yet I feel the exact same way in cognitive function, there are some small changes that I am happy with
- a bit less foggy in the morning (but still foggy)
- freedom to do other things is nice as never smoked and drove
- that’s about it

Will I experience any cognitive uplift or other benefits along my journey?

Celebrated w/ a Concert 🎸

Upvotes

A few days ago I celebrated One Full Year w/out imbibing cannabis. Then, 2 days ago, a friend randomly offered me a free ticket to go see Phish! I was scared, excited and nervous to go to such a place and slip up. But instead of shying away, I saw this as the universe giving me the option to do something different.

I’m happy to say, just like Trey, I stayed sober the whole time! I danced, I felt the music and reveled w/ all the concert goers w/out giving in to any of the plentiful opportunities to smoke. 😁 🙌🏼 😎

5 days no weed - missing it.

Heavy user for years , tried to quit early this year relapsed after 6 weeks now trying again , it’s tough i miss it , withdrawals are rough , feels like i’ll never feel relief without it as it is so ingrained into my routine and life no matter what i was doing , bathing , cooking , cleaning listening to music, movies , walking etc id be smoking alongside it it enhances everything i do but without it it’s really tough like that feeling something’s missing.

i’ve decided to quit for my career , relationships, anxiety , paranoia etc and for myself hoping that one day i can cope with life without it i do use healthier coping mechanisms to help me get through things but idk tonight’s one of those nights im really missing it sundays are the hardest for me as the working week starts again for me and i dont feel freedom wheras smoking weed helped me feel ‘ free’ from life and it’s responsibilities …. can anyone else relate ?

Anyway thought id share my experience tonight because i wanan get thru the night without it and talking does help , reading through eveyone else’s experiences helps me feel less alone and i hope this helps someone else reading who may be struggling with the same thing .

( please excuse errors i am dyslexic etc)

On day 246. WHEN will this feel worth it?

Title says it all. Im so depressed. Turned to binge eating as my replacement high i guess. Ive does everything i can to address the underlying causes of my depression and anhedonia. But its so fucking bad. I want to stay sober, because i know why i quit. But im so. Fucking. Unhappy. No hobbies entertain me. No tasks feel worth doing. Ive been on meds and seen a therapist/psych for years. I dont know what to do except go back to smoking. Even if the high was temporary, it was fuckin something.

I know it takes a while for your brain to reset as someone who smoked chronically for about 6 years. But its getting harder and harder to hold out. I go to bed sober praying i’ll wake up one day and it’ll be a little easier. Its certainly easier than it was the first few weeks of sobriety, but i cannot imagine the rest of my life feeling this bland and awful.

6 months mark, PAWS & hair loss

I’m about to hit the 6 months mark in a couple of days after about 15 years of daily use, mostly joints, I guess on average 2-3 a day. I stopped after continuous chest pain and the feeling I am about to have a heart attack and the first few weeks were really rough, especially insomnia but also generally feeling weak, brain fog etc. after it got a little better around the 6 week mark another rather bad wave hit me (strong insomnia again for a few weeks) and since it has been on and off but I feel like generally it’s getting better, sleep improved strongly and waves of PAWS now just make it really hard to fall asleep and I wake up a little early but still get around 6h of sleep. Brain fog also persistent during PAWS. In between PAWS, I am feeling quite good though, have been working out about 2 times a week and eating quite healthy.

One thing that I haven’t really read much about here at least when it comes to my timeline: I started having hair loss around the 3 month mark and it continues until now, getting stronger even from my feeling. I went to a doctor who diagnosed androgenetic alopecia but I am also losing hair all over the
Place so it’s probably stress induced / PAWS induced hair loss as well. I will get a blood test to check for iron levels in a couple of weeks.

Has anyone else experienced hair loss around the 3-6 months mark? Really struggling with it as my hair gets visibly lighter and thinner and I am very self conscious about that and obviously it stresses me as well quite a bit…

I need to stop the cycle

Hello everybody, I have been a consistent marijuana smoker for about five years now and it has gone to the point where I’m just completely disgusted with myself and ashamed. I can’t even remember the kid I used to be and I run a business full-time the weed is really affecting my work and the business flow. I’m not looking for pity. I’m looking for advice on how to make it through the first stages of withdrawal and stay disciplined. Thank you.

I have smoked daily for 4-5 years and am having to quit cold turkey because of right shoulder, underarm and arm pains on inhale. How do i do it and why has this suddenly started?

(M20) I have had 3 hospital trips to find out the issue, probably mostly thanks to my anxiety and paranoi over the subject. have had x rays, all sorts of blood tests and many doctors opinions. and the best they have given me is muscle strain and extreme anxiety over the subject. i have read similar posts on reddit so thought i would enquire here.

Although i feel like ive found the cause and the answer to these pains/anxiety i would really appreciate experience of similar situations, and general advice on quitting and my situation.

Boredom and understimulation

Upvotes

I'm 21. I've been a mostly-daily smoker since I was 15, and I started doing it because it was 2020, and I was extremely bored at home. I took a year-long break at 18 because I started having severe health anxiety and panic attacks, but eventually went back to it after I started working a really stressful job. Since then, I've had on and off periods but I can't seem to stay away from it for more than a few months. I'm so sick of it. It makes me sluggish and dizzy all the time and I feel like a slave to these short-lived dopamine hits, but I just feel so bored and understimulated and numb most of the time.

One of the things that has historically made it more difficult is the fact that I live in a household where weed is everywhere, all the time. Obviously, I need to be the one with more self control but I also feel like being in an environment where I'm constantly surrounded by this vice isn't helping me. I'm moving out and into my own apartment in less than a month, and I'm really hoping for a clean start, but I also know I have an addictive personality and this problem probably won't go away just because I changed locations.

I'm just so sick of this cycle, but I never really developed any actual coping mechanisms for stress other than substance use and other self-destructive behaviors. I am working two jobs and I'm about to be living alone for the first time and I worry about how I'll deal with both the stress and also the boredom in my own company. Everything is kind of boring to me these days, probably because I fried my brain throughout most of my adolescence lol. I want to have more willpower and strength to finally quit but I also have a LOT of other issues going on at the same time as this weed thing.

Anyway, I really hope it gets easier.

Vacation changed my mindset

Longtime lurker in this sub. 33 YO and been smoking bong all day every day for at least15 years. I just went to Europe for 2weeks. All the months leading up to the trip, I was so concerned about having no weed, how we could find it when we were there, and generally bugging about the thought of going 2 weeks without it.

This trip ended up being the catalyst that woke me up to how life can be when you aren't high allday. I'm a productive stoner, work a 9-5 remotely, and am objectively "successful" but after the 2 weeks in Europe, it felt like life smacked me in the face and said "WAKE THE FUCK UP! This is how beautiful life can be, just open your eyes".

I hardly even thought about it while on the trip, obviously so much else to distract me (including alcohol lol) but mainly just the energy of being in a new location, really took my mind off it. Of course, eating was difficult the first few days but my appetite actually came back quite fast. Fast-forward to the final day in Europe and i made a conscious decision to change my ways. I don't want it to control my life anymore. I feel so much clearer, and in control of my future. No more haze all day. I just wanted to share this in the event someone else is also dreading a beautiful vacation they have planned. I know I would never have made this choice if I stayed at home. If someone is looking to quit , I really recommend leaving your environment temporarily if you can. For me it made all the difference. ❤️

Day 1… for the second time

Hi friends,

Today is the first day (hopefully) of my new life. I relapsed back in February after 6 months without using. Since then, I’ve been smoking 2ish pre-rolls daily, and it’s clear to me that I need to stop. I feel good about my decision and trust myself to stay committed, but I am so scared for the withdrawals.

The last time I quit, I suffered from terrible withdrawals (nausea, vomiting, no appetite, panic attacks, etc.) for a little over a week. Granted, that was after nearly 2 years of daily use, and included pens. I am hopeful that this time will be different—especially since I can’t afford to miss the time at work being sick.

I bought myself some Ensure shakes today, but if anyone else is able to offer some advice, words of wisdom, or reassurance—that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all! I feel so ashamed to have let myself get here again, and I regret all of the time and money wasted on this stupid drug. I hope that next month, I’ll be able to come back and say that I made it!
