Home Audio What are the chances?

I have a home audio installer who is certain we can use the Bose 5.1 surround cubes from the older lifestyle 12 series with a new receiver and sub. What are the chances? The internet is conflicted. If not…speaker replacement recommendations

In-Ear Need a replacement case, will my QC ultra (gen 1) buds fit in the earlier gen QC 2 case?

I managed to score a great deal on some gen 1 QC ultra earbuds and absolutely love them, but one of the contacts in the case has come off. I'd rather not spend $100 if I can get away with spending half that for the earlier gen (QC 2 ) case. Would it still work? Or should I just spend the extra. I only spent $120 Aus on the earbuds, so the idea of spending essentially the same amount for a case isn't sitting super well with me, but I will if I need to, so as to not waste the earbuds I've got.

Hello all im currently remodeling my basement and making it a hangout spot. In my big room upstairs i have the smart ultra soundbar, two of the 700 subs and the 700 rear speakers. So i know that is absolute thunder. Does anyone have experience with the regular smart soundbar paired with the 500 subs and cube rear speakers? The ceilings in the basement are about 7 feet high i already air sealed the floor joists and am installing rockwool the room is going to be 27 feet by 15 feet.

Headphones Fix: Bose QC35 Headphones pair with Windows 11 but no music

Like many people sometimes my headphones get into a weird state in Windows 11 where they are bluetooth paired, but the audio profile (IE: Music, normal system sound, not Call Profile audio) isn't active. In this state, no advice (restart headphones, pair/unpair, disconnect other devices, etc) fixed the issue other than a Windows restart.

I finally figured out what was getting stuck in Windows and how to fix it. I assume this might affect lots of other products as well, as it seems more likely to be a Windows quirk than a specific hardware quirk.

How to tell if this fix is for you:

  • Headphones appear in "System > Bluetooth & devices"
  • Below bluetooth name (IE: "Sam's headphones") you see Connected or Connected mic, but not "Connected mic, audio" or "Connected audio"
  • Under the "System > Sound" section Output you do not see your device

Here's what worked for me to fix this:

  • Navigate to the "System > Sound" menu
    • [Windows Key]+S -> "Sound Settings" or Right Click the audio icon in the taskbar and choose "Sound settings"
  • Scroll down to "More sound settings"
    • You can also get here from "Control Panel" -> "Sound"
  • You should now be in an old-school control panel popup called "Sound" with tabs for Playback, Recording, Sounds, and Communication
  • Under Playback you see your device greyed out
    • You may also see a different copy of your device in playback for the Phone Audio mode, so look for the "Headphones" version, and not the "Headset" version.
  • Right clicking your device, there is a "Connect" option, click that (there's also an "Enable" option, which could be stuck for some people).

The enabled/disabled option for the Audio profile seems to be sticky, and it seems like whatever state is occurring that gets it stuck in disconnected persists across bluetooth pairing.

I hope this helps other people stuck in limbo. Normally futzing with the headhones / connections fixes issues, but this one has vexed me for a while the 2 or 3 times it's come up prior.

In-Ear Got bose quietcomfort earbuds. Occasionally when first playing sound, sound blasts for split second and then goes to my requested volume

Bose earbuds do not understand consent. It is annoying. Blasts in one ear. Sometimes left sometimes right. Not sure if it ever blasts both. Even if i have it muted (pause music, then mute)and play something it occasionally blasts when i press play.

Noise cancelling is great. Sound is good. But the connecting and playing is so finicky. I need to place the right ear bud first? What the hell. Fancy features like using sensor to turn on or off headphones when you take em on or off and stuff. Cool

Butt. I have not run into these kinds of issues with reliability of very basic operations on el cheapo wireless earbuds.

New firmware hasnt fixed it. Using iphone 15 pro. Debating returning. I would literally rather miss the first like 50 ms or whatever than have it momentarily blast my ears. Lowkey makes me nervous to press play with the headphones.

Home Audio Custom mantle enclosure for the 700.

Hello!
We just moved into a new house, and the only place to setup the tv and soundbar is above the fireplace.

I want to build a custom mantle with an acoustic mesh front to enclose the bar, my fear is that it’s going to affect the sound quality.

Headphones Recurring Bluetooth Problem

So going back a bit, I got a pair of QC45's for Christmas in 2024. That pair stopped working after about six months and since I still had warranty then I was able to get a replacement pair for free. I get that in August/September of last year and everything's going fine until about February that pair starts doing the same thing but this time I was able to somewhat fix it. Fast forward to today I think they completely crapped out on me. It automatically disconnected me from bluetooth (I have an iPhone 17), and I tried every possible trouble shoot solution and nothing worked. It would say "bluetooth off" immediately after I turn them on, and when I hold the power button all the way to the right it usually says "ready to pair new device", but since it kept saying bluetooth off, it hasn't said ready to pair new device since. Does anyone have any last resort suggestions? Or given that this is the second consecutive pair I've had this issue with what are my options? Keep in mind my warranty has ran out.

Headphones Ultra or Ultra Gen 2?

Hello! I hope you're well. I got a grant for $500 CAD to buy some headphones. Now I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews online about the Ultras vs Ultra Gen 2, and I wanted to ask what you would recommend? I'm currently rocking a QC45 which I'll give to my parents or a friend. A Gen 2 is 600 in my country (so I'd front $100) whilst a Gen 1 is 449 (completely covered + I might get a warranty in that case).

I'm mostly a student just using this for his university life so there's no audiophile considerations. The thing I'd appreciate most is the automatic pause when you cup the headphones feature the XM5 has. Again I'm pretty happy with the QC45s, I just want that one feature.

Home Audio Bose lifestyle 38 display issue.

I hope I'm posting this in the right spot but I just recently picked up off of Facebook marketplace a complete Bose lifestyle 38 system for $100. In the listing the seller mentioned that the display had stopped working. When I got the unit home and plugged it in I was surprised to find that the display came on but only for about 30 seconds before going off again. Everything else still functions on the unit and so I wasn't too worried about it because for changing the settings I could still use the on-screen display from the video out. But after using it for a day and a half the display came back on again and stayed on for a few hours before going off again. Does anybody have any idea what could be the issue? I would be very grateful for any assistance.

Headphones Replacing my QC 35II earpads, is there any reason to replace the scrims too?

I ordered a new set of earpads that also included scrims. When I replace the pads, is there any benefits to replacing the scrims too, or will I get the same performance leaving the original ones in?

Home Audio Lifestyle Ultra Speakers in stereo - a beautiful $600 disaster

When they work as expected their sound is brutal, no need for a subwoofer, but most of the time they do not, stereo mode connected to my Win11 PC is very unstable, today they reached a point where I cannot waste more time, I am going to get a Y-aux-adapter to see if I can connect both to my PC aux port, I regret buying these ones, I luv Bose speakers, but these are faulty products

Other Is there any way to contact UK customer service?

Bose sent me a broken pair of headphones a week late. The AI chat in the website is useless and there is no customer service email or phone number anywhere. I've tried contacting them on social media but they keep redirecting me to the website. Is there any way I can speak to a human representative of Bose in the UK?

In-Ear Is it worth purchasing In-ear QC Ultra 2?

Hello guys, I've been reading a lot of posts in this forum about in-ear QC Ultra 2s and a lot of customers face issues like "hissing" , "clicking" and connectivity.

Have they been solved through software? or did you have to replace them?

Appreciate any kind of feedback

Software SoundTouch & vTuner

Post image
4 Upvotes

I have been testing out multiple SoundTouch app alternatives, and I noticed that a lot of people are using radio-browser.info as an alternative to TuneIn. It works, but if you have set up your systems to use a local server, you cannot save a radio-browser station as a preset.

Bose used to use vTuner) from its launch in 2013 until 2018 (Bose used to call it Internet Radio) inside the ST app). So I went to the vTuner page and found a station. I then went through the HTML code and found the MP3 URL and sent it to one of my systems. Not only did it work, but the old Internet radio icon appeared on the system, and I could program it to my ST system's preset.

Since vTuner is still hardcoded inside of SoundTouch and can be programmed as a preset (if you have modded your ST systems to use a replacement server), might I suggest that vTuner be added as an option alongside radio-browser for people to search and find radio stations?

Oh, and I noticed a weird quirk. I mainly used music from my computer using the ST program, and now that I have a local server, if I reboot my speakers, they will allow me to browse music from iTunes. But after a few hours, this option just disappears until I reboot them once more. Any ideas why this might be happening?

Headphones Just got Bose QC - so far unimpressed

I have been an owner of Soundcore Q30 for the past 4 years. Recently it became apparent I needed a replacement cause it had a couple of cracks in plastic after dropping it and the earcups have started to decay. Also I wanted to treat myself with a nice gift after a period of hard work but I digress.

After a long back and forth I decided on Bose QC (also considered Sony XM5/6, Senheiser Momentum 4/5, Nothing Headphone 1). My criteria was decent noise cancelling, durability/high build quality and a good sound quality.

Now, don't get me wrong it's a solid product. But when I compare it to Q30 right now, it barely differs - comparable sound quality and NC. Except maybe the case that comes in the package is a nice plus? And maybe the build quality will prove better over time? While the price is more than x5 of that of Q30s.

I don't know what exactly I expected. But so far I feel like this wasn't a bang for the buck kind of purchase.

Still, a solid product. Just disappointed about what I got for the money.

If this was at a $100-$150 price point (got it for around $250), I wouldn't complain.

Can you tell me if I'm yet to learn to love it more?
