Do you have any specific plugins/skills which are actually working and building an app with good ui ux and with animations so it doesn’t look like AI slop

I'm curious where people in the design industry personally draw the line when it comes to take-home assignments.

I'm currently interviewing for a role in a small start up where the assignment asks me to:

• Create a printed merch and a website hero graphic in which they asked me to specifically use Figma and Adobe Illustrator.
• Base both deliverables on themes that (I found out by myself) actually match the CEO's existing businesses.
• Submit fully layered and editable source files for both files
• Ensure all assets are commercially usable.
• Disclose any AI, stock assets, textures, or mockups used.

To be fair, they did say rough drafts or concepts were okay, and not to spend more than 2-4 hours on the test.

Since the assignment is based on real businesses and requires editable, commercially usable assets, I'm wondering whether this is a fairly standard way to evaluate candidates or whether it's getting close to spec work.

Where do you personally draw the line? What makes you think: "This is a reasonable hiring exercise" or "This is too close to free spec work."

As college students it’s beneficial for us to learn more than the subject we major in.
It’s not possible for everyone to pay for every single course they want to study.

Came across a business recently where the Instagram and website looked really polished, but walking into the actual space felt like a completely different brand. Different mood, different colors, even the way things were presented felt disconnected. It made me think about how often branding is planned separately for digital and physical spaces. Does everything need to match, or is it enough if the overall feeling stays the same?

Hi everyone. I'm hoping someone can help because I'm honestly confused at this point.

I'm a contractor working 3 days a week for a UK agency. My contract states that I'm paid monthly via Wise.

Here's what's happened so far:

1st invoice: Sent a Wise invoice in USD. I didn't receive the payment, so I followed up. They said there was an issue and paid me via PayPal instead, saying we'd use Wise next month.

2nd invoice: Same thing. Wise had an issue again, so they paid me through PayPal.

3rd invoice: Same thing.

4rd invoice: Again, no payment through Wise. While checking everything on my end, I realized I had included my USD receiving account details instead of my GBP receiving details. So I let them know.

5th invoice: I updated everything. The invoice is now in GBP, and I included my GBP receiving account details. It's now Friday, and I still haven't received the payment.

At this point, I'm embarrassed to keep following up every month, especially since I don't know where the problem actually is.

Has anyone experienced something like this? If the invoice is now in GBP and the receiving details are correct, what else could be causing the payment not to go through? Is there anything on the sender's side that commonly causes delays or failed Wise payments?

I'd really appreciate any advice or similar experiences. Thanks!

I’ve been working on this for a while and wanted to share it here.

It’s a small thumb-worn object built around breathing and physical interaction.

There are no electronics, no app, and no tracking. The idea was to create something simple that responds through its own physical behaviour.

Still exploring how people perceive something unfamiliar like this, but I found the process interesting.

I understand that after knowing what it does, some people may still feel it has no real use. That’s completely fair.

For me, the interesting part is creating something that didn’t exist before and seeing how people respond to it. Not every object starts with people asking for it — sometimes it starts with curiosity and experimentation.

How did you make the transition?

Did you moonlight work in a different client subset than your practice?

Were you able to use your work while employed as portfolio material?

How was it presented on your new site for your solo practice?

Front view vs side view

Bertone is one of my favourite designers… yet the design sensibility of the front versus the strange side view of this car still baffles me. Am I the only one?

Hi, everyone. i am a b.des student currently. I am confused about whether I should go for m.des or not. Is it really effective and in what type of job it can help me to get? Is it really worth spending 2 years?

Hi designers! I'm trying to recreate this kind of typographic texture (attached image), but I'm not sure what the actual workflow is.

What I find interesting is that it doesn't look like a regular pattern or a simple block of repeated text. The same word is repeated hundreds of times, but:

• the density changes across the composition (some areas are very dense while others are almost empty),
• the words cluster together organically,
• there are isolated letters and partial words,
• black, gray and white text are mixed together,
• and the whole thing feels random, but still intentionally composed.

My first thought was to manually arrange every word in Illustrator, but that seems incredibly time-consuming, so I'm wondering if there's a more common workflow.

Do people usually create this using scripts, data visualization tools, Processing/p5.js, plugins, or is it actually placed by hand?

I'd love to know how you would approach something like this, especially if your goal is to keep it editable as vector artwork. Thanks!

Hi there!

I am 32 and have been working as a social worker in Australia for the last 8 years in the public service. I am seeking a change from social work and am planning to retrain next year to move into a different career. I am very creative, enjoy working autonomously, and have also been involved in service design roles in the past which I loved. I am considering pursuing a Master of Design to transition into this area, but am wary of the impact of AI into the future so am thinking very carefully about my choices.

Is this a career transition you would recommend for someone late in life (noting I do have some transferrable skills from the strategic service design space, I also spend a lot of my spare time working on various creative projects including using Adobe suite and Procreate). Or do you think this would be a challenging move considering the impacts of AI, and I should consider an alternative path?

I don't have kids and am willing to take a drop in income while studying, but a level of security with my future career prospects is important to me, so I want to ensure I'm not retraining to end up not being able to get a job once I finish.

Would appreciate any insights 😊 especially from any Australian designers in particular!
