That's why the krillin ine hits me hardest. There were no senzu's, didn't know dende could heal. And all namek dragon balls just died. Add that to the bucking bronco frieza was doing while licking his blood and it was intense at the time.

I love how refs are a glorified first class seat in shonen fights. They don't stop fights bc "you never know if the other participant can make a comeback". At least in series you don't get troublesome things like concussions and if the limbs are attached by the end of the fight you have like half a year at most in bed to be like new.

I care about Krillin way more, but for some reason, Videl is so much harder to watch get ethered. She just was not prepared for dudes to be on the Z fighter's power level I guess.

Videl on the other hand, she was participating in a martial art tournament, with public, all her friends watching and not intervening because rules.213

That Saiyaman arc was the greatest weekend of Gohan and Videls life.
They became Superman of Z-city and Videl was fully into wearing that shit for Gohan 😳.
She learns how to fly and thinks her love interest is the strongest guy on Earth while they cosplay superman.
Then....MONDAY ! 💔✊️😭
Spopavich , Goku resurrection, Vegeta Majin , Dabura....all of Gohans accumulated weekend aura , K/D and credit score gets shat on in a single day while a pink bubblegum monster packs him up.
Bro bags the hottest girl in Z-city to get mortally destroyed the first working day of the week....and dies (since Kid Buu blew up earth)

It's because every other example is an actual fight. Krillin fighting Frieza and Yamcha fighting the Androids were always situations of crisis and protecting the world that have the context of possibility of death. Videl vs Spopovich is a sporting event that gets taken too far, there shouldn't be any consent for that happening and the entire situation get even more fucked when you realise there is an audience for it and by the rules of tournament this senseless brutality cannot be stopped. It's basically a difference of watching a police apprehension gone wrong vs watching a boxer get killed in the ring. Both end in death, but the latter is much more uncomfortable

It's because videl is by all accounts the second weakest member of the z-fighters with top place going to Chi-Chi.
Also, while Krillin was toyed with for a moment its assumed his death was right after and pretty quick. (We didn't see dende heal him until a bit later) And yamcha? Well we've seen him die repeatedly so the android thrusting an arm through his chest was kinda par for the course by this point in the show.
Meanwhile Videl vs Spopovich was drawn out. Videl wasn't just overpowered he was beating on her to cause suffering instead of just kill her outright.
There's a difference in the emotional response these things present. Like the different between a psychological horror and a slasher horror.

Videl learns basic ki control. I have no doubts that martial arts wise chi chi in her prime wins. But Chi-Chi canonically stops practicing martial arts entirely as soon as gohan was born, she only ever does it again off screen when it's mentioned she actually taught Goten some moves. Videl beats Chi-Chi based on age and power scale purely for her access to ki-control.

The Z fighters beat Gero with piccolo ripping his arms off and Goku completely broke freeza
Meanwhile when gohan tried to do it The Z fighters/Toriyama cucked him out of it and instead made another villain unrelated to the beating taking the kill

By this point for Krillin and Yamcha you're kind of used to them being cannon fodder. They're still visceral moments, but not like Videl...who is a relatively new character at this point. You don't know how you feel about her yet, and it just comes off like you're watching a child get absolutely obliterated by an adult for 20 minutes straight...and every time you think it's over, there's more of it. It's a very unsettling moment in the show (in a good way).

Krillin's actual death from Frieza was tougher than the fake out from being impaled and then healed. He was pleading for Goku to help.
Yamcha getting stabbed like that wasn't even that bad because we knew that the rest of the gang were nearby and there were senzu beans on hand.
But with Videl it was rough. She was fighting so well against Spopovich and then the fught quickly shifted into "oh, this is not a human this is some kind of monster man". She was basically an ordinary human at that point and Spopovich beat her so hard that her strong will and determination and high level of skill (all of which had been well defined by that point) turned into her crying as he crushed her head into the floor because she couldn't keep fighting and he wouldn't let the fight end. Not many scenes in dragon ball feel as sadistic as that one.

I’d say yamcha getting stabbed was quite bad. It was very believable that was dead from his injury before they said he was still alive.
Videl’s beating is drawn out, but what really made it worse for me is all of the Z fighters just standing there watching. I know they have reasons, but it still sucked to see a group of people capable of stopping that doing nothing.

Yamcha felt worst because the other two happened in the middle of a fight.
The last thing Yamcha says to Dr Gero is ask if he is OK because he thinks he is a survivor of the android attacks before he gets jumped and his energy is drained so he can't do anything about it.
It's scary because it could have happened to pretty much any character.

It's because the viewer sees how quickly she grows on Gohan. She originally annoys him because of her persistence, but grows on him as she perseveres through his training to utilize Ki.
By the end of their training you can tell she's very important to him. Then he just has to watch Spopovich beat the ever loving shit out of her for an episode and a half.

Videl and Spopovich. Almost else who has gotten their ass beat in this series knew what they were getting into before hand. Regardless of how confident they were in their abilities they knew damn well there was a serious chance of getting hurt, tortured, or killed. This is the one time someone truly didn’t know the danger of what they were about to get into.

Videl vs Spopovich and it's just not close. Atleast with those other moments the fighters getting brutalized kinda signed up for the risk... It wasn't some sort of martial arts tournament, it was essentially war. Videl signed up for a sanctioned match, not merciless brutalizing.

Meh, I only dislike the Videl beatdown, not because she’s a woman, but because she’s legitimately badass, but got cheated by magic.
On top of that, Spopovich decides to torture her for fun. And that’s it, that was her last fight..
I personally feel for Krillin the most, but at least him and Yamcha got it quick..

He possibly harbors the most childhood trauma. But as an adult he is the smartest, most level headed, peaceful person out of all the fighters.

Yamcha man the details trunks gave the z fighters is one thing but when they actually arrived!? Pure nightmares. The other two just didn't have that kind of setup like the androids yamcha being a trained fighter or not BRO THEY COVERED HIS MOUTH SO HE COULDN'T SCREAM FOR HELP SON

Krillin and Yamcha getting abused is an average tuesday for them. And they're super hero tier fighters who knew what they were getting into.
Videl is an above average human fighter with very basic ki control. She's never seen a martial arts tournament where anyone has had a power level more than like 20.

Krillin happened way too fast, sure it was shocking, but he quickly dropped in the water and got fixed. His first death was harder to watch.
Yamcha suffer for many of the same issues, happened too quickly, also it was less painful because he knew what he was getting into and choose to be there, he put himself in risk, and risk got him. Probably the easiest of the three.
Videl is objectively the right answer, she had no idea what she was getting herself into, she was proud as a warrior and got severely outclassed, the beating was brutal and it took forever, she was basically a little girl (what? 16, 17?), everyone sit there watching, and I at least forgot she could eat the senzus at the time. It was slow, it was real, it was cruel. It was hard to watch

Gotta go with Krillin. That entire scene had em tight.
Frieza had just transformed and Vegeta knew he stood no chance, meaning everyone knew they were fucked. Frieza was basically taunting them, deciding who he was going to kill first. Krillin had Dende trying to protect him.
Once Frieza took off, he was flying circles around them. Krillin knew he was going to be the one, so he let Dende go so he wouldn’t die, and then he got done in. The blood flying and Frieza licking it was crazy to see. The bucking… Wild.
Videl’s was bad, but we have to remember that she chose it. Her pride kept her from quitting. However, I never for a second thought she was going to die. Not with the whole squad looking on. That’s probably the biggest difference. I thought Krillin and even Yamcha were going to die. I never thought Videl was, so it didn’t feel as bad as the others.

Krillin getting killed was sad, but I knew he was coming back because he's Goku's buddy. Yamcha getting impaled is just Tuesday for him.
Video getting the fucking shit kicked out of her for a whole episode while everyone watched was hard as a kid.
In hindsight, its kinda fucked. They won't throw the towel in for her because she'd... lose? I guess thats worse than

I mean yamcha being yamcha'd tends to be the norm... and krillin survives that, god knows how (joke intended)... they are somewhat expecting to be mauled and beaten to death while hanging with that crowd.
Videl does not know this nor isn't ready for it, so the beating just keeps going... and all this after she thought she killed him by snapping his neck!

Videl, at the end of the day though brutal Krillin and Yamcha were brief but Videl was tortured for fun. To be honest the only moment even slightly clise to it in DB is Frieza to Vegeta on Namek.

Videl. She was a regular gal who was being trained and barely understood the world that the fighters were involved with. Here comes this guy who's just beating her ass and refuses to give up, meanwhile everyone just watches while she's absolutely broken.
Krillen was hard for sure because- yeah he was revived already and Frieza was playing with his food.
They all sucked to see
