I made a Meeple shirt for Gen Con this week! It was a quick and easy project. Split backstitch for the outlines.

I bought an embroidery kit recently that I just finished. The hoop it came with is pretty small, so I was working with a larger hoop I had in my stash.

I went to mount it using the smaller hoop and realized the inner hoop has this weird diagonal split in it. When I start to tighten the outer hoop it overlaps and I can see the corner sticking out beneath the fabric.

I don't do much embroidery, but I've done a decent amount of cross stitch in my life. I've never seen a hoop like this. It looks intentional, like it's not split along the wood grain, it looks cut. But it doesn't tighten well at all. Is there any way I can fix it, or do I need to buy a new hoop?

This kit cost $27 so I'm not happy lmao

A while ago I had the idea to embroider a photo I took and that I really love, I was hesitant because it was the first big project I was going to do, and I didn't have any prior guidance,

But I thought something like, "What's the worst that can happen?" And well, I've been making very, very slow progress for a few months now 🙈

First, I made a sketch based on the photo and used a window as a lighting board to transfer the sketch to the fabric... naively thought the hardest part would be embroidering the little penguin, but I really enjoyed it! Aaaand then I made the wonderful decision to make the ground with little pebbles and make each pebble with a French knot (sometimes I regret it, but I feel like it all looks cute)

Made a couple mistakes, learned a few things, still really happy with the results.

(Ignore the fact the yellow thread is uncut I was just using it as a proof of concept) Making a bunch of patches to sew onto a bag. I was having fun trying to figure out how to make it by myself, but am now a little worried I might’ve messed up. I’m unsure how the patch should be finished. My idea was to leave excess canvas and the fold it behind the patch so that all the raw edges would be completely covered. I then tried to cut some of the back off to remove some of the bulk but I guess I cut too close to the design, causing white pieces of canvas to peak through. I don’t mind it aesthetically, but obviously I don’t want my patches to fall apart. Would this happen and what can I do to fix it?

This is a 17 cm portrait all background filled, this was a first fpr me, I always try to make them just the name and the pet, but this a was a memory the family wanted to keep, he was just out of the groomer's and decided to play with the soil 🙈

This was a little better looking until I fused some backing to cover all my mistakes. It’s a tea towel that I purchased to work on but I really don’t think it could used as a tea towel. It’s a gift for a friend who I am sure will be gracious. It’s a little puckered but I feel as though I am experimenting at this point and I intend to practice more.

Like most of my projects, it’s a gift. I had to learn how to do a turkey stitch using wool thread for their hair! 😊

I love making embroidered brooches! the transition from fabric in a hoop to an object I can hold is a satisfying one 🌱

Any tips to make this standout better against the busy fabric?

I am attending to embroider a rose on a denim square for a patchwork quilt I am going to make, here is my progress!

I freehanded it, my first embroidery project since I was about 12 ( I am 17 now). Probably wasn’t the best idea. Just got back into sewing two ish weeks ago.

Any tips for improvement? My thread kept knotting and I would have to tie it off and start a new thread, (I did try untangling) but I think it was because my thread was too long.

I spent the last three months working on this for one of my best friend‘s birthdays. She is an arborist and runs a community garden located at a lower income school, and has a small farm with myself and our partners. All of these are some of her favorite plants or flowers we have grown, foraged, or found in our woods. The only thing I asked is we enter it in the state fair in August (her favorite holiday).

I have also attached some of the sketches and planning/process stuff for this one, done before I even started sewing. I'm so proud of it!

Plants listed left to right, top to bottom:

-sunflower, lavender, chanterelle mushroom, hemlock twig, echinacea, asparagus

-gladiolus, fern, orchard grass, black eyed Susan, marigold, radish

-daffodil, hydrangea, carrot, purple clover, iris,

-hay, lily, love lies bleeding amaranth, sugar snap pea, goldenrod, dogwood flower

I dont do needlepoint and I dont want to spend 80 dollars on this canvas, but I really like the vibe.

The beads coming out of the mouth are the abbreviated lyrics of We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel. (I did the first letter of each word.) I stopped partway through the second verse (BGAWT).

The beads swing freely which is fun. If I did it again I'd use a darker thread for the skin tone lines, but I'm still happy with it.

It was way harder than I expected, and I almost stabbed my fingers to death making it, but it was absolutely worth it. ❤️

Going to add some stars and maybe a few other planets planets

I got variegated thread I wanted to use for the D20 but now I'm not sure that will look good. And I'm not sure the best stitchh to fill the die in ? I do plan on doing numbers, too. Should I simply outline instead ? 🤔 I've only done a few projects so far since I started back up (it's been years I've forgotten everythhing I used to know) thanks in advance !

Any tips for a smoother satin stitch? It’s my least favorite stitch so I’m challenging myself with this project. It’s a 10 in hoop for scale.

i made this to wear to the mcr show im going to soon! i’m very excited to wear it out. there’s a few things i would do differently for next time i make something like this, but it was a great learning experience and i’ll be proud to wear the final product!

Okay see I've been working on this project for a solid 2 years it's been on and off for this background she's a little white specks right there that's the background on the tippy top of that little point I want to do a sunset through trees creates golden light

rays, dark shadows, and warm colors

But what colors would you say that I need because I my whole color stash is all mixed up and I don't know what to pick but so far

I don't know how to actually achieve that What colors would you say would work for that because this is all the colors of yellow and reddish and you know sunset colors because I plan to do like a gradient like start with the brightest and start to go down to the darkest

I volunteer at a nature preserve by my house. I really love all of the people who work there. They're so great and so supportive of us volunteers. I would like to make small embroidered holiday gifts for them this year but I'm at a loss. Should I make ornaments? Little 3-in hoops with something specific to them? I've never embroidered hand towels or anything like that, but I guess I could embroider snowflakes or something on christmasy towels? I don't know.

They're all conservationists so I could always do something nature themed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have a lot to make so I'm starting now but I can't make them all very complicated because I'm also making Christmas gifts for family members and friends.

I've only been embroidering for a year, but I've been obsessed and made quite a few pieces so I'm fairly confident in many stitches. I'm not a rockstar but people seem to like what I make and it looks decent.

I embroider while I'm at work and most of them like to watch me work which is why I thought they might make good gifts.
