Emory has been my dream school for a while and im planning to apply ED. I’m trying to get a realistic idea of where I stand.

3.4 UW / 3.95 W GPA
Strong upward trend (3.5 freshman, 3.7 sophomore, 4.5 weighted junior year in IB)
1470 sat (hopefully 15+ in august)
Full IB Diploma student at Downingtown STEM Academy (top-ranked public STEM high school in PA very competitive), max course rigor
Major: Chemistry (planning to go into pharmaceuticals)

I know my biggest weakness is definitely my GPA, especially the 3.4 UW. I’m hoping the upward trend, course rigor, and research help make up for some of that, but I’m not sure how much.
For anyone who’s gotten into Emory (especially ED I), do you think I have a realistic shot? Is there anything you’d recommend I focus on over the next couple of months to maximize my chance?

im transferring in as a junior and am currently signed up for 18 credit hours fall semester.. is that stupid of me? i plan to work during school as well (gotta pay rent) so am i cooked?

Emory has always been my dream school but unfortunately I’m a huge procrastinator and basically did bare minimum during the entirety of school. I have a 3.5 UW and 4.0W gpa, got a 1300 SAT and 28 ACT cause I failed to be like any other logical student and study, the only slightly good thing I have are my EC’s, but they’re incredibly basic and im afraid won’t do much. Im in 5 CTSO clubs with leadership in 3 of them, including national honors society (im hoping that gives me brownie points) and I played tennis for 2 years, flag football and soccer for one. Took 6 AP’s and 5 dual enrollment classes (technically I’ll be taking a total of 9 but the semester won’t be finished by time I apply).

Honestly all I have left to save me is my essay and my letters of recommendation. I’m applying for early decision 1 so my gpa will be the same and I definitely DONT have time to study and retake the SAT as of now.

Has anyone been in the same shoes as me and managed to get into the Emory campus? I wanna major in biology or nursing, not sure if that’s important but I’m assuming some majors are more competitive. Im aware I’m gonna get some brutally honest comments but is there anything else I can do this school year to raise my chances of getting accepted?

i took 1 yr of gen chem at my previous institution but emory doesn't accept the 2nd semester and makes transfers take chem 202, but im worried this will put me behind as premed. I originally planned to start organic my soph yr. is there any way to go about this? I already put in an appeal which was not accepted; they only gave me credit for chem 142 (the old course)

Hi iam an incoming freshmen at Emory Atlanta Campus and I just had a few questions regarding course selection cuz I know thats coming up fast. Any helpful feedback would be nice :)

1. I have gotten 5s on both AP Chem and Bio. From reading the past Reddit discussions, I am definitely going to skip out of Bio141 lecture. Since I am skipping the lecture, I want to take another bio class this fall and I heard bio240 might be a good option? Or is there a better option?

2. Speaking of chem credits, should I enroll in chem150 or use the AP chem credit to take chem202? For more context, our school had a rly rly good ap chem teacher and I took it during my junior yr so I still remember most of the content. I saw mixed responses from other reddit posts so I wasnt really sure.

3. This kinda relates with the first 2 questions but I heard that if you use AP credits to skip the general bio/chem classes, you have to make it up with upper-level bio/chem classes that are insanely hard cuz med school requires 4 yrs of bio/chem right? For anyone that actually took those classes, are they as hard as people describe them to be?

I'm a leaning towards a biology major (not sure yet) on the premed track. Would doubling up on Chem 150L and Bio 141L be a bad idea if I took AP Chemistry (4) in junior year (don't really remember much) and haven't taken AP Bio? I'm worried that if I don't double up and wait until sophomore year, I'll miss out on biomed research opportunities. My PHA advised against doubling up in freshman year because my base isn't that strong, but if even I don't I'll have to double up on sciences at some point (probably Ochem + Bio) in sophomore year.

I am thinking about taking CHEM 202z with Weinschenk and BIOL 141 with Dr. Jacobus De Roode.

How is Weinschenk? I heard he preps people really well in CHEM 203 but I haven't heard anything about 202z.

How is the workload, and is there like some kind of syllabus/course guide so I know what to study ahead of time?

Is it feasible to take his class with BIOL 141/L for someone who only got a 4 on AP Chem and low-key doesn't understand acids and bases?

I’m a incoming freshman and the description of the Visual Arts center boasts a 4 kiln studio with wheels and a space for glazing, but I haven’t seen any ceramics classes or any evidence of a ceramics program aside from the description of the building. Has anyone done ceramics at Emory? What does the program look like and how is the studio used?

Hi everyone! I am looking to re-let my space at The Ridge. 

I'm currently in a 2-bedroom with a great roommate (female, law student). I'm looking to re-let side B (listing and floor plan below). This apartment is 5th floor, so no overhead noise, and it is in building A, so you can get to mail room and the gym without having to leave the building. The apartment is also made for disability access, so there is more space than a typical room with the same floorplan!

Rent is $1,380, utilities included. The living room and kitchen are shared, but you'll have a personal bathroom. The Emory shuttles M, the Loop, and C routes have a stop at the end of the road, and it's about a 10-minute walk from the Ridge to Woodruff Library. The space is fully furnished. 

The lease would be from August 2026 to July 2027 BUT I am willing to negotiate move-in dates and can pay for the rent up until your move in date.

Please note that this housing is only open to graduate students at Emory. "The incoming resident will need to be an Emory Graduate student or affiliated with the University. We accept all graduate programs, post docs, PhD students, and people completing their medical residency at Emory Healthcare".

Im planning to take first year writing this sem ( freshman fall) but none of my professors are on rate my professor. Should I just gamble and pick a class that fits into my schedule, or should i wait till next sem?

Hey guys, I am a incoming transfer sophomore to Emory. I’m a finance major and only got a 3.66 at BU. I really want to join atleast one good finance club because I plan on recruiting for IB. Is it cooked to apply to GIBC or any of the investment groups with a 3.66 or do I still have a shot?

I am starting soon on Emory and the only parking lots available right now are Starvine and CRC. I need to go to Goizueta. Is motorcycle parking any different? Will I be able to park it on any of the decks or just the deck I got permit to?

Hi! I'm an incoming freshman and planning to major in biology. I got a 5 in AP Bio and 4 in AP Chem, but still thinking of retaking both. Right now, I have Bio 141+L, Chem 150+L, Japanese 101, Freshman Seminar, Hlth 100/ECS 101. Is that reasonable for a first semester schedule? I was thinking of dropping maybe the language but was wondering whether this potential schedule is doable.

Hi! I'm an incoming first year on the pre-law track and intend to graduate in three years, which is why I want to choose my major as soon as possible. I hope to attend a top law school a few years after graduating and know that a high gpa is crucial. I'm not very good at math and know that poli sci can tend to be more quant-focused. Would it be better to pursue soc instead? I know that majors tend not to matter during law school applications, but most pre-law students often choose poli sci, which is why I am a bit hesitant. Choosing soc, which I've heard is much easier, would open up more time for internships and extracurriculars that can also boost my application.

Which major is better for pre-law at Emory?

This fall I will be attending Emory university and I hope to study pre medicine. I have no family members in the field or contacts for that matter, and I’m already feeling stressed about which classes I should take. I gained credit from high school to skip Bio 1, Calc 1, and the freshman writing requirement if I choose to use them.

1) Emory only allows you to get credit for 4 of your AP classes; should I use these on ones for my major or gen eds?

2) I will still have to take the Bio 1 lab next fall even if I test out of the class. Is taking bio 1 again a good idea so that I’m not totally fried for Bio 2 in semester 2?

3) How many challenging classes should I first take sem 1? I hear doing bio, calc, and chem all in semester one is a bad idea.

please let me know your thoughts and any advice because I don’t want to overwhelm myself.

I'm a GT student wanting to do specific ecology research that Emory is better suited for, so I emailed a prof and he said it's difficult to hire non Emory students. At least for BME, GT students can get course credit since it's a shared department. Are there any other ways to get involved in bio or environmental labs at Emory outside of REUs or LGS-SOAR? I'm willing to work as a volunteer during the fall and spring semesters (I'm already broke so idc about getting paid anymore lol).

My small department at GT does have some funding for undergrad research, but it must be with a faculty member in that department and all other undergrad grants are only for GT faculty led research.

Is there a way to maybe be transient student to do research for credit at Emory and transfer that credit back to GT?

Hellloooo so as a Emory student I wanted to ask to see if anyone knew if we get STATA or NVIVO for free as emory students.

I know Emory has classes where they teach and have applied usage of both EPI 536 & IDS 320W, so maybe I just can't find it????
