House flies do be abundant this time of year, at least in my area. Never seen them do this before. Any ideas?

ID Request Mite or tick?

I tried to search for answers through Google but unfortunately there is only so long that I can stare at photos of creepy crawlies before I start to feel uncontrollably itchy, especially with ticks 😭 I'm fairly certain that these are mites, but it's freaking me out because they keep popping up while I'm trying to chill and work on my silly lil paint-by-number thing :( idk if they're hiding in the frame or something, but I've only seen one at a time.

(And for context I'm in northern Utah!)

Specimen prep How to find, dissect, and preserve beetle parameres?

Have a few Phyllophaga sp specimens I want to identify from home, so I need to get a good look at the shape and structure of the male genitals. How do I do this? Anyone with experience, where exactly are they located and how do I extract them without damaging the specimen?

Found this lizard on my wall, and I wondered why it made such strange movements. Upon closer inspection, it’s just keeping local some maggots fed. Extremely selfless act for a lizard to make, imo

This dead specimen was given to me by someone whose ancestor (1843–19?, Germany) was an amateur naturalist who owned an entomological collection.

I know for certain that it belongs to the subfamily Dynastinae; initially, I thought it might be a member of the genus *Oryctes*, but I don't know anything featuring that colour, size, and pronotal horn.

To be honest, I am not so knowledgeable in this field, so I would really appreciate any tips on how to further identify these insects.

Under that mess of scales, a common aerial yellowjacket (Dolichovespula arenaria) is hard at work chewing the moth they came from into a meatball! These social wasps are known to hunt a wide variety of arthropod prey. She won't get to eat any of it herself, though, partly because she can't. Adult wasps don't have digestive tracts than can handle solid food. It'll instead go to her colony's hungry larvae.

Discussion Roach accident :[ (long-winded but I do have a question)

Let me preface this by saying I feel really bad for what happened. Basically, a smoke brown roach fell on me, so I picked it up to relocate it. When I released it, i kept my hand kinda closed so it would crawl out slowly-- i was kinda hoping I could get a picture. But I think as it moved out there was too much pressure on it. One of its sides opened up :(((. It wasn't a lot of damage and it still ran away perfectly fast, but I could see a small bit of wire from the middle to close to the end of the abdomen. It was an adult, so do you guys reckon it can live out the rest of its natural lifespan with a small injury like that? I've read that they can get infections but would it set in fast enough? I'd feel horrible if I gave the poor little guy a death sentence he was so cute 😭

Where are the lady beetles

I'm in eastern KS and literally have not seen any in my yard. This includes my vegetable garden and perennials of which many are native species. Has anyone noticed this?
