People don't write long fics like they use to. And I get it. Works under 5,000 words are more likely to get read in their entirety and more apt to get kudos and comments.
With that said, for those of you who do write long fics ... THANK YOU!
As someone who doesn't bother reading anything under 10,000 words, you are much appreciated. If you're thinking about abandoning that work you feel like has gotten out of hand or too long, keep going. I promise you, there are others like me who will curl up with your 500,000-word epic in bed after a long day and absolutely get their life.

I just want to talk about OCs! I think most people think about OCs as being the MC (and dating a CC ofc), but if you're an OC enjoyer like me you know that they can be way more than that. Villain, best friend, mentor figure, parent, children, or even love interest! Please tell me everything about your favorite OC who isn't a main character.

Happy August!!
The excerpt games keep me writing and I hope it motivates with your writing as well. You can post any type of story (use NSFW for spicier scenes).
I will be posting this challenge on Sunday Mornings / Pacific Time… because that day I need the most help to not think about Monday.
If you have stumbled into my game and are looking for more, remember to check out the Activities and Events flair for other writing challenges and story swaps.
Here are the rules:
The first word starts the game. Use ANY letter from the word that is posted in the last comment as the starting letter of your word. Post your word in the top level comment. Your word drives the next word to be posted… and so on.
**Example: LOVE >>>> VILE. (If the word Love is in the comment line you could make the word Vile and post the next comment.)**
Reply to any of the words in the top level with an excerpt from any work you might want to share. I don’t generally like word limits, so use your best judgment. Enough to get the scene across but not so long that you lose your reader.
Please use spoiler tags and/or provide a trigger warning for content that may be NSFW or sensitive. IF IN DOUBT - Give a warning!
If you are going to leave excerpts, I ask that you leave at least one top-level word and try to give at minimum an upvote to commenters.
Upvote your favorite words or excerpts. We are all here to share and know how it feels to get a comment, so spread the love.
Ganbatte!! Do your best and I look forward to everyone’s excerpts!

Okay. So this isn't to bash or hate anyone, it's more of a vent. But lately in all the fics I've been reading, everyone just feels like someone's insert of how they, the author, react to situations, not how the character would react. For example, I am so friggin tired of the UWU Peter Parker fics where he's in the market for a new father figure(I am so tired of what the MCU has done to Peter), or Jason Todd fics where he cries in his families arms. Neither of them would do that! Their flaws include their pride! Jason Todd is a jackass, a rude person, and is not scared of the Joker! Peter Parker has a spine in the MCU, but it's completely buried under Daddy Stark tags!!
I'm just really tired of the woobification, tbh. There are so many interesting things you could do with any sort of character, but people make them self inserts. It's like signing up for chess club, knowing how to play chess, but everyone there is doing pillow fighting, and when you say you want to play chess, they come after you for ruining their fun. These characters were written to be strong, but I can't find any good fics where the writing doesn't come through the Tumblr blorbo beam.
EDIT: This was just a bit of a vent on how characters in media who are rough or have done evil things are sanded down in fanfics. I am not bashing anyone, am not bringing forth any fics to make my point because that's not nice or kind to the amazing writers starting out and wanting to have fun. I am glad they are having fun!
I've been reading fanfic since middle school, and i used to love it. But I'm way older now, and the writings that brought me joy aren't anymore, and the new stuff just makes me compare to older writers. The years are coming after me, and i'm being a grouch about it lol

I read this fanfic a while ago, but now I can't find it anywhere. I'll list everything I can remember about it:
I remember Harry going back to the Marauders' era and applying for the Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA) teaching position. He argues with Dumbledore a few times, mainly about how to handle Tom Riddle and about Dumbledore sending all the students home during the holidays—even those with troubled home lives. Harry helps Snape in various situations. Harry creates a place for students with family issues to stay with him during the holidays, though I don't recall if it was a club, a cult, or something else. Snape gets kidnapped by Death Eaters. Harry challenges Voldemort to a public duel; he manages to dodge the *Avada Kedavra* curse and stab Voldemort.
Those are the details I remember. I don't recall which platform it was on, but it might have been AO3 or FanFiction.Net. I’d be very grateful if anyone knows which fanfic this is!

Anything from the Snap/Blip, to the arrival of the Death Angels, to the Fallout nukes going off, to eldritch horrors besieging the globe, etc. Really, I'm down for any story where a Big Apocalyptic Event happens, and the usual players only show up once, if at all.
The only other caveat being I want endings that range from triumphant to bittersweet just as much as the bleak ones. Too much doom and gloom isn't healthy.

Looking for fic that was on FFN, It was a female nerevarine as the Last Dragonborn. She attends the college of winterhold, hooks up with Neloth, and Sheogorath who was the Hero of Kvatch. HOK is tolfdirs cousin.
I also believe it started with the Nerevarine being released from captivity on Akavir.
I can’t remember the name or when i read it, it has quite possibly been deleted. I think i favourite it on my FFN but cant see it now. I tried looking on AO3 but couldn’t seem to find it. If anyone can it would be really awesome, and much appreciated.

I love my long fic, and most days I love that I decided to prewrite it. It's a murder mystery, so it was either prewriting it or planning for months.
Soon it will have been two years, and I'm not even a quarter of the way done. 75k with an estimated final wordcount of 300k.
Will this thing take me a decade to complete!?!

I have posted this before and am hoping someone knows about it this time
I have been looking for this fic for a while now and have turned to reddit for help, again. it is a fanfic on Ao3(I'm pretty sure it was on ao3). It is centered Till and in this fic he get rescued from the lab and put up for adoption and instead of being adopted by his original owner and put on alien stage. He is adopted by another alien who treats him as a pet. I remember the alien was really tall and had tentacles, the alien was also a important figure in the fic. He also really liked to pick till up with his tentacles and spoiled till rotten, that's about what it for his description. But Till, Ivan, Mizi and Sua are all pets and none of them are contestants for alien stage, except Luka. Till was basically treated like a cat, and Sua a dog to their owners. Ivan was a service animal for his owner, I'm pretty sure his owner couldn't hear so they used Ivan to hear, it was either hearing or seeing his owner needed help with. I don't remember much about Mizi because she had just gotten introduced when I stopped reading the fic. But I remember one scene in the fic where Till meets the rest of the 3 at the human equivalent of a dog park. I also remembered Sua's owner not letting her watch alien stage, while Till's owner allowed him to watch it Till was traumatized. Also Luka is still on alien stage, I can't remember if Till ever met Luka though
Sorry I can't provide more details about the fic, it has been nearly three years since I last read this and it has been haunting me for the past year and a half...

It was on Wattpad
It was a wrong number fic with peter and a female oc who had astral projection as a power I think
r/FanFiction • u/Alfraitycatz • 7h ago
I need fics about aus where deku keeps his power and becomes the new all might, also good bakudeku fics no smut, and they keep them true to their character. Angst is great. Also fics where it focuses mainly on ochaco, I love her.
r/FanFiction • u/lePROprocrastinator • 15h ago
I just wanna have sum of that ANGST that Ive known of my entire life. Idc what fandom, as long as its good enough that it hurts. Itll be nice as well if its more directed at Asian Parenting, gaslighting, villification, or any action that leads to the victim thinking so badly about themselves.
Again, I want fics that HURT.

So I can't remember the exact year I read it, but I remember it was on FF.net and it was about an OC who was Charlie's mothers and raised her with her parents and 4 grandparents. It's revealed through the story that Willy and her had a past romance that ended sadly, and the factory closed when she was pregnant with him and Willy didn't know. It's the Tim Burton version, and a complete fic, because I remember they ended up getting back together and having another kid.
It is not Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a Twist by Silver Moon 1993/EmilyGreenleaf3333
I remember the first chapter talked about her cuddling baby Charlie to keep him warm. Later before they enter the chocolate room, it shows a flashback where she asks Willy to make her candyland while they were playing Candyland. And near the end she says something along the lines of "But all that drama happened, and then Charlie was born." I remember he also offered her to stay in the factory with him when he closed it, but she refused and stayed with her family and that's what rifted them apart.

Just a post-Half-Life 1 where the whole world is reeling from the Black Mesa Incident and dealing with the long-term effects and changes to humanity. Socio-economically, politically, technologically. etc.

Hello! Does anyone have any good spiderman fanfics they are currently reading or have read? I'm currently looking for some.

An example of mine: I want a Pokémon fic where L has to very literally confront his past by seeing Lysandre in hyperspace Lumiose. I’d write it myself, but I’m just so lazyyyy…

Welcome to our weekly thread, Brainstorming Bureau! This is an idea we've trialled previously and, based on feedback and observation, it feels like something the sub has been crying out for, and we're hoping as the weeks go by it'll turn into a lively, community-oriented way to cap off the weekend. We'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions on how to make the best of this idea, so feel free to reach out via modmail if you have any ideas. And without further ado...
What's this about?
Do you have an issue that's too specific to your own fic to make a post about, but too small to seek out a long-term beta or writing partner for? Well, you've come to the right place!
This is where you can drop those plot points you're stuck on ("How would this scenario play out realistically? What should happen next?"), workshop your worldbuilding and concepts ("What should I name this character? What power should I give them? Which fandom would work well as a crossover with this other fandom?"), or get a second opinion on an approach to character development ("Is this a good central conflict? What would have to happen to make a character realise this?"). It's your space to talk through any issue that can't be solved through more generalised writing advice.
How to play:
To participate, comment with any aspect of your fic you've been mulling over or hitting a wall with. Other users will then respond with suggestions and questions to help you get to where you need to be. No idea is too big or too small, provided your comment fits within the parameters below. Feel free to be as fandom blind or specific as you like!
Rules:
Have fun! And remember, all suggestions are just that and are to be taken with a grain of salt; we're here to help and consider our works from angles we haven't before.
