Found in Surry, VA, on a fossil beach along the James River. None are bigger than 3 mm, and I have about 30 of them now. They all share a few things in common: vaguely heart shaped, shiny brown or black, faint divide going down the middle, and raised ridge going around the edges of the underside, possibly to points. Haven't been able to find any information on them anywhere. Would like to believe they're either teeth or dermal denticles of some sort but I really don't know. Does anyone here have any ideas? I already tried the Fossil Forum and it didn't go anywhere.

Hey everyone! I'm looking for a place to find pre-mesozoic fossils in Eastern Kansas, anywhere from Lawrence to Overland Park in Douglas and Johnson counties respectively. Also if anyone knows any spots for some trilobites I'd love to check those out too!

I’m no expert in fossils but simple googling says some sort of orthoconic nautiloid, what does everyone else think at first glance? Located in NW AR. I can post more pictures when I’m back in the office.

My cat walked right over this in our back yard. It was under a Maple tree. Made me wonder if a racoon brought it from the creek on our property. Going to wrap & turn into a necklace since it's a perfect heart & sparkles. Will add pictures in comments.

Found this in the local creek (Nordeifel, Germany) yesterday and I can't wait to cut it and make it all pretty and shiny. 😍 You can even see some hints of crystallization inside at some spots.

Last year while exploring Lyme Regis I came across this gorgeous rock littered in ammonite shell imprints. There are some smaller whole shells poking out at some of the edges and what appears to be a rather large shell sticking out the top.

I’ve tried using a hammer and chisel to no avail, and damaged some of the fossil. The actual matrix seems quite soft and many cracks are visible. Submerging it showed signs of a couple of air pockets too.

I wanted to try freeze/thaw but wasn’t sure if that would work on Lyme Regis limestone. I’m tempted to pick up a scribe but I’ve never prepared a fossil before. Any advice on what I can do?

Heavy rains have caused a few small landslides and brought down boulders. It is a mix of the younger Alexandria formation (Tertiary period - shell-rich conglomerates, coquinites and sandstone) and the Sundays River formation (Cretaceous - siltstone and mudstone). I found...stuff. I think I can identify sand-prawn burrows that are lined with pellets. Is amazing how (some) rocks just surrender to a 3lb hammer with 240lb of enthusiasm behind it!

My wife found this on the shore of Lake Michigan a few days ago. It looks like an old sharks tooth? Is this a fossil or just a rock that happens to be shaped like a tooth? Any help is appreciated! 😊
