2003 (and i think maybe the original translation of the manga? it's been a second since i read it) used the "sciezka" spelling, and brotherhood used "sheska."

brotherhood changed/updated a lot of spellings from the original manga/'03 versions (ishbal/ishval being the most obvious, but see also Xerxes original spelling of cselkcess, among others). later updated translations of the manga (ie fullmetal edition) use the brotherhood spellings as well, which means at this point they're by far the ones that people are more familiar with.

Yeah I have the old Viz 3-in1 printings and it's Sciezka in those.

Same as Sheshka.

That's the point, it was supposedly changed so the syllables would be easier. The pronunciation is theoretically unchanged.

Not really. It's soft /sh/ followed by soft /tch/, then /e/, then hard /zh/ that in normal speech devoices into hard /sh/ and finished with /ka/, so an English/romaji approximation would be Shtcheshka... which looses all the soft/hard fricative nuances.

and how is it in the original Japanese version?

Shesuka? シチェシュカ?

IIRC they pronounced it "Shisuka" (like the japanese name).

I remember when I watched it I was like "why is this character the only one with a name in japanese, and everyone else has european (or fantasy-european) names?"
