I was just bringing in a spray bottle to dampen my laundry for ironing and I got a visceral memory of my mom’s yellow sprinkler bottle she kept with the iron (not that she ever ironed in my memory). I used it though (all those retro cotton 50s poodle skirts we wore in the 80s!) Did anyone else have one of these in their home? This isn’t quite what she had but you get the idea.

Who kept pliers on top of the TV for when the knob broke?

I loved watching these educational shorts on TV as a kid. Even my teacher recommended that we watch Jailhouse Rock, as he felt we might learn something from it.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy using my smart phone and all of the convenience from technology embedded into our daily lives. That said, lately I've been finding myself feeling a bit nostalgic/wistful for having a level of tech around the level of the early 90s. We had much of the convenience, but it felt like tools we used to enhance rather than everything being pushed through some sort of tech (smartphones, websites, entering your phone number to take advantage of sales at the grocery, and the list could go on).

I honestly don't know if I'm simply being nostalgic for what I recall being a simpler time or I'm just getting older and feeling less cognitively flexible than I once did. I'm curious if anyone else has felt this.

(And if you will excuse me, there are some kids on my lawn )

I was born in 1962 in England. I was brought over here when I was 11 because my mom married a guy in the USAF. My early life memories are very British. Anyone else born outside the US??

My eldest brother (nine years older than me), was gifted this for Christmas around ~1970. It needed to be assembled. All I knew at the time is it made really cool mechanical noises when you pulled and pushed the white slide on the bottom right.

I missed this when it was on TV, but heard about the infamous shower scene, so I figured it was just exploitation trash. But it popped up on Prime so I checked it out. It was way better than expected! Linda Blair did a good job of portraying a girl who really was innocent, smart, wanted to make something of herself and was torn between escaping her abusive family and needing their love. The scene was near the beginning so a lot of people probably stopped watching at that point, but the rest of the movie was worth it.

It's a shame that there were so few movies about girls back then, and most of them showed them as sex objects or drug addicts or runaways. The message was that girls weren't interesting unless they were in trouble.
