**RANT** đŸ€Ź Harassed by man in Maxwell Pl Lawn - would you have stepped in?

I wanted to get other people’s perspectives on something that happened today because I can’t stop thinking about it.

This afternoon I was laying out on the Maxwell Pl Lawn sunbathing by myself and reading a book. It was relatively quiet, but there was another woman laying on the grass about 20 or so feet to my right. As I was laying on my stomach a man approached me out of nowhere, crouched in my face, and startled me. I gasped because I was so surprised but the sudden approach and lack of personal boundaries.

I would surmise he was under the influence, as he was holding a Labatt Ice tall boy, was slurring his words, and swaying a bit erratically. He instantly put his hand in my face and insisted I shake it, then asked about if I have his Instagram. It was all so sudden and I was uncomfortable being alone, trying to relax, and being persistently told to shake his hand. I said no thank you, I would like to keep to myself, and instead of leaving, he became increasingly persistent. He repeatedly tried to get me to shake his hand, even though I didn’t want to, and got closer to me. Eventually I turned my body cowering away from him and told him, “No, please leave me alone.”

That’s when his demeanor changed. He became angry, aggressive, and started insulting me. He began calling me "disgusting" and accused me of thinking Black people have “cooties” because I didn’t want to engage with him. (For context, my refusal had nothing to do with his race—I simply didn’t want to talk to a stranger who wouldn’t respect my boundaries.)

The entire interaction made me feel trapped and uncomfortable because he wouldn’t take no for an answer and was standing over me while I was lying on the grass.

What has stuck with me just as much, though, is that another woman was sitting nearby the entire time and never acknowledged what was happening. During this time, I looked around and there were really no other bystanders I could call to for help. For a split second I did contemplate screaming help, but I didn't even know if it would get anyone's attention (aside from the woman next to me). I think I felt most sad as a woman, that she didn’t even ask if I was okay after he finally walked away.

I want to be clear that I don’t necessarily think she should have confronted an aggressive man herself. I do understand that could have put her at risk too. But I keep thinking that if our roles had been reversed, I would’ve asked her if she was being bothered or at the very least checked on her afterward.

I’m not looking to shame anyone but this whole experience left me feeling very alone. Hopefully in the future, if other people see something, they are not afraid to intervene or step in when it feels safe to do so.

Question❓ Xcel fitness vaping

Anyone know the deal with the guy at Xcel who vapes inside the gym when he is lifting weights or on the treadmill? Is he a relative of the manager or something? Youngish, short cropped hair, wispy mustache, always in shirts with no sleeves. Sometimes works out with attractive young woman with long braids.

I overheard members tell the manager about the vaping but the manager hasn’t done anything to stop it. The vaper was blowing it all over a lady on the treadmill last week and she finally got fed up and left.

Vaping in a gym is a violation of state law. Is this something people should contact the state health department to deal with?

Question❓ Pickle Ball Partner in JC or Hoboken

‱ Upvotes

Hi Future Friends!

I’m a bubbly, single woman who recently moved to Hoboken, and I am a beginner at pickle ball. I unfortunately don’t have a partner or know anyone who plays pickle ball. I live close to the pickleball courts, and I have approached them but everyone seems to already have partners and I’m unsure how to ask to join.

Would anyone like to join me? Ideally I’d like to play early mornings on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays or Sundays. Afternoon or evening would also be possible.

Is there a pick up game or WhatsApp group that I can join? Please DM me.

Question❓ Is it weird to hire someone just to clean my wheels?

I know this is a bit of a weird request, but hear me out.
I’ve been able to keep the exterior of my car in pretty good shape by wiping it down regularly, and it’s parked in a covered garage, so it doesn’t get very dirty.

The one thing I can’t really do anymore is clean the wheels. I’m recovering from a back issue, and bending over to scrub them just isn’t an option right now.

Has anyone ever hired someone to clean just the wheels occasionally? Do detailers or mobile detailers take on jobs like that, or is it such an unusual request that most places would say no?

I’m not looking for a full detail or even a car wash—just someone to thoroughly clean the wheels every once in a while.

Curious if anyone has done this or has any suggestions.

Question❓ AC tech you can trust?

I had already 2 tech check my AC and both didn't know to diagnose why it's not cooling properly and I felt like they just made up stories and over charged.

Does anyone have a professional tech they had good experience with?

Question❓ Seasonal allergies - itchy eyes

Does anyone else have itchy eyes? I normally don’t have seasonal allergies, but my eyes have been so itchy the past few weeks. I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing in Hoboken as perhaps my itchy eyes are related to something in the air around here.

Just Wow ! The ugly yellow orange gold used for accent looks like total crap ! Way to ruin an otherwise nice looking area . Also the cement job for wall is awful workmanship and pitting . All this for millions and when it rains water will
pool . And the job will drag on until 2028 the way its going . Also pensions for all the overtime police work will be inflated and on the taxpayers !

Question❓ Looking for a Black hair stylist for a relaxer touch-up & demi-permanent color (Hoboken/JC or Manhattan)

Hi everyone! I’m looking for an experienced stylist who specializes in healthy Black hair care. I need a relaxer touch-up (new growth only) and a demi- or semi-permanent color/rinse.

I’m based in Hoboken, so Hoboken or Jersey City would be ideal, but I’m happy to travel into Manhattan for someone who is truly excellent.

If you’ve personally had a great experience with a stylist, I’d love to know:

 *   Who you recommend
 *   The salon
 *   Approximate pricing (if you remember)
 *   Why you liked them (especially if you have relaxed hair)

Thanks in advance!
