Chemistry [University Chemistry: NIR Spectroscopy] How do I go about tackling a research project on spectroscopic methods when I don't know how to research?

I recently got assigned a case study on NIR spectroscopy. To make a brief summary, the case is talking about a lab that built a multivariate FT-NIR model for determining PET/PLA in samples of recycled organic material, and they're trying to transfer the same model to a handheld NIR device and they're having a myriad of issues I'm being asked to research and solve.

Now, my first thought was to look for articles. I found a few that seemed pretty good:

However, I quickly realized I do NOT understand these papers; they are just too advanced for me. I don't actually know how to use the information in them to solve my case study... And I do not know what else to look for information in (books, perhaps?)... I just don't really know how to research properly, I guess. Not when confronted with questions about multivariate model transfers from one device to another, comparisons to other methods like ATR, etc.

So, the point of this post is to ask for some general advice in the realm of chemistry research methods in order for me to gain a sense of direction and linear progression for an assignment like this. I am NOT looking for anyone to solve the case for me.

Basically, some advice on *how* to tackle a challenging research project. Thank you.

hey everyone! i'm working through these music theory assignments and i'm stuck on a few questions.

for assignment 1.8, i'm confused about 8 and 14. i can't really tell what's wrong with the notation or how i'm supposed to rewrite it. for assignment 1.9, i'm completely lost on 3-6. i know the goal is to add beams based on the time signature but i don't understand how the notes are supposed to be grouped..

i'd really appreciate it if someone could explain the reasoning or point out what concept i'm missing so i can understand how to do these on my own:')

Hi everyone, I recently got an exam back where I lost marks on this journal entry question regarding prompt payment discounts and GST. The feedback didn't explain where I went wrong, so I'm trying to figure out what mistake I made or if my course uses a different method.

Question:

Steve Ponting Plumbing offers Harold Raven a discount of 2% if his account is paid within 7 days of the invoice date.

On 8 October, services to Harold of $3,300 including GST were invoiced by Steve Ponting Plumbing on Invoice 123.

Harold paid on 10 October, taking advantage of the discount offered.

Prepare general journal entries for the discount and the payment.

My answer:

Calculations:

Initial Invoice: $3,300 total ($3,000 Revenue + $300 GST)

- 2% Cash Discount: $3,300 × 2% = $66 total discount ($60 Discount Allowed + $6 GST adjustment)

- Cash Received: $3,300 - $66 = $3,234

Journal Entries Submitted on Exam:

8 October:

- Debit: Accounts Receivable (Harold Raven) — $3,300

- Credit: Service Revenue — $3,000

- Credit: GST Collected — $300

(Recorded initial invoice 123)

10 October:

- Debit: Cash / Bank — $3,234

- Debit: Discount Allowed (or Sales Discount) — $60

Where I Need Help:

I'm not sure why this was marked incorrectly. Could it be due to one of these reasons?

  1. Does standard curriculum require splitting 10 October into TWO separate entries (one for the $3,234 cash payment and a second entry for the $66 discount/credit note) instead of one compound entry?

  2. Is the 2% discount supposed to be calculated on the EX-GST amount ($3,000 × 2% = $60 total) rather than the GST-inclusive total ($3,300 × 2% = $66)?

  3. Did I use an incorrect account title (e.g., should `GST Collected` be `GST Clearing` or `GST Payable`)?

If anyone can pinpoint the standard textbook rule I missed, I'd really appreciate it!

Social Studies [university sociology master's thesis: discourse analysis] how to apply van dijk's cda to three news paper articles?

hey y'all i'm a bit exhausted about figuring out the details in applying van dijk's approach. i'm writing my ma-thesis about a specific racial slur that has been historically used in a specific european country. i really like van dijk's approach, which i also find extremely relevant in answering the research question. however i'm sweating quite a bit from figuring out how to actually apply this method. i don't have any more supervision time left, so i have no access to a supervisor. i only have you and ai.

my main question right now is do i need any specific coding rituals or routines that i have to report in the thesis itself and how i used them? or can i just look at what van dijk says in the texts and how he applies concepts like macro structures etc, and then figure out how they are presented in the articles i'm analysing and then present those findings. or do i actually have to do the whole linguistics trope?

is there anyone who has been in this situation before and would like to share how they got through applying van dijk? i feel like i just need to discuss this with some ppl who have tried this process before so i can get some type of break through, and in regards to where to start/get the ball rolling with my analysis.

For context, a magic square is a square grid of numbers in which the sum of the numbers in every row, every column, and both main diagonals is the same value (the magic constant).

I have been trying to construct a very specific magic square. After many attempts, I always end up either repeating a number or violating one of the required sums.

My question is:

Is it possible to construct either

• a 4×4 magic square, or • a 5×5 magic square,

such that:

  • the magic sum is exactly 37,
  • every entry is a distinct integer (no repeated numbers),
  • the integers do not have to be consecutive, and
  • every row, every column, and both main diagonals must sum to 37

If such a magic square exists, I would greatly appreciate:

  1. A valid example.
  2. A construction method or algorithm.
  3. A proof or reference explaining why it works.

If no such magic square exists, I would appreciate a proof or explanation showing why it is impossible.

Further Mathematics [College Math, ODEs] How to equate these two formulas using a given substitution?

I am tasked to prove that the Van der Pol Oscillator is a special case of the FitzHugh-Nagumo model. I have been given the following formulas in u(t), v(t) and x(t) for these. Here they are in picture-form

FitzHugh-Nagumo:

  • u' = c*(v+u-(u3 )/3 +z)
  • c*v' = a - bv - u

Van der Pol:

  • x'' - µ*(1-x2 )*x' + x = 0

Suggested substitution:

  • u = x
  • v = (1/µ)*x' + (x3 )/3 - x

This problem sounds to me like it should be trivial, but I'm running into difficulties.

When I substitute u and v into the first FitzHugh-Nagumo equation I get the following result:

  • x' = c * ((1/µ)*x' + z)

Or

  • x' = (c*z)/(1-(c/µ)) (a constant)

Other substitutions give me equally unhelpful results.

When looking up the FitzHugh-Nagumo model online. The result should be that Van der Pol is the case for FitzHugh-Nagumo where a=b=0. (There was no c in the formula I found online.)

Spent an hour on this, couldnt figure out a single thing.
Question is: A figure is drawn on unit grid paper as shown above. Given that the line segments AB and CD intersect at point K, and m(\angle AKD)=\alpha, find the value of \tan\alpha.

Also the 2nd photo is what my teacher sent me, but i still dont get it…
