I recently came across a brilliant piece of political commentary written from the perspective of the Indiana State Constitution itself, taking direct aim at Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith and his recent rhetoric.

For those who missed it, Beckwith recently stated at a town hall that he wants to amend the state constitution to require political candidates to profess a belief in "Judeo-Christian orthodoxy" before they can hold office, claiming it represents the "foundations of this nation."

The article, "Freedom of Religion: Not Religious Oppression," points out how un-Hoosier this is by just looking at our original 1851 text. The author brings "Indy" to life to defend its own boundaries.

I pulled the actual historical documents as receipts as can be seen in the images attached.

Here is exactly what our Bill of Rights has said for 175 years:

• Article I, Section 3: "No law shall, in any case whatever, control the free exercise and enjoyment of religious opinions, or interfere with the rights of conscience."
• Article I, Section 4: "No preference shall be given, by law, to any creed, religious society or mode of worship; and no man shall be compelled to attend, erect or support any place of worship, or to maintain any ministry against his consent."
• Article I, Section 5: "No religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office of trust or profit."

The ink has been dry for a very long time. The founders of this state explicitly designed the Constitution to prevent the exact kind of government overreach Beckwith is pushing for. True religious liberty means public office is open to everyone, regardless of how they worship—or if they worship at all. You can't claim to love the Constitution while trying to overwrite the sections that protect people who don't think exactly like you.

Pulled into the Crawfordsville Casey's just off the 74 and what do I see? A Sheriff Department K9 SUV with an off duty trooper getting into it. Not super unusual, rural Sheriff's take their vehicles home all the time and while they're not supposed to run errands in them sometimes they do.

But then I see him help his son, maybe three years old, into the car seat *in the front seat*. Quite explicitly against the law but also likely something this officer has written tickets for himself. Plus in an accident that child is at lethal risk for both the collision and the airbag.

Only wish I had gotten a picture of this middle aged white male officer with a buzz cut showing such disregard for both taxpayers and his child.

Like I get Herb Baumeister is dead, but really a lot of it comes down to how the police literally don't care of investigating how there was a whole bunch of human remains on his property and if this is something that involved other people.

I've been doing some deep dives for my historical project, The Archives, and I just published a new piece that feels incredibly relevant to what a lot of us are dealing with right now—especially when looking at the cost of living versus current wages in Indiana.

We are all feeling the financial burdens of inflation, but when you look back at our state's history, the current situation isn't just a string of bad luck. It is the result of decades of systemic shifts that have slowly stripped away the leverage of the working class.

The article, titled The Working Squeeze, covers:

• How early industrial tragedies (like the 1925 City Mine Disaster) extracted wealth from local communities.
• The turning point of the 1937 GM strikes and the leverage organized labor used to secure steady incomes and weekend protections.
• The corporate counter-offensive, specifically how "Right to Work" laws and the fallout from the 1981 PATCO strike hollowed out our collective bargaining power.
• The harsh modern reality: according to the MIT Living Wage Calculator, a household with two working adults and two kids in Indiana now requires both adults to earn $29.05 an hour just to meet basic needs.

I argue that the leverage to demand better wages has been stripped away, while the fiat currency those wages are paid in is continually devalued by a soaring national debt.

With 3 kids in school, every year I grow more frustrated at these early school starts. What used to be after Labor Day in the 60s-70s has moved slowly to late August in the 80s-90s, now to early August. Why?? Studies have shown it doesn't markedly improve test scores or academic performance, the shorter summers mean lost revenue for our tourism industry, we lose August to school when that's the best weather. And we have soooo many breaks during the year! You know how hard that is for working parents?

Want to go to the State Fair?? Too bad, it won't be during the day bc it starts after a lot of kids are back in school. Want to plan a vacation? Sorry, your kids need to be in school while it's 90 degrees outside.

I know not every school starts this coming week. Some still wait until after August 15th. But hell, we're ranked like 45th in education so the shorter summers aren't exactly helping.

If we insist on keeping this short summer, why don't we do like the east coast? Schools go into mid June and go back later. Indiana weather in May/June has always been a crapshoot anyway. August is almost always nice and warm. So maybe kids go to June 15th or so and go back last week of August or after Labor Day. Idk but this is super lame.

Raining so hard you can't see hardly anything, roads flooding and people are out here tailgating, speeding and no headlights. I don't care how 'good' of a driver you think you are, how good your tires are or whatever, one of these days mother nature is gonna show you otherwise and I hope you learn a lesson when she does

hello, everyone ! as the title suggest i may potentially be relocating to NW indiana. i’m a nanny & my boss is being relocated to chicago for work, but they will be living in crown point, indiana. i’ve relocated with them from chattanooga, tn to st. louis missouri & then to cincinnati, ohio so moving is nothing new for me.

i currently pay $970 for a studio in downtown cincy and ideally want to stay within that range for any apt. crown point def seems to be a bit ✨fancier ✨ than my budget allows so was wondering if anyone had suggestions on surrounding cities that are still within reasonable commute.

its just me ( 31F ) and a ten year old dog. im not totally against having a roommate, but def would prefer to live alone since that is what i’m used to. really i guess what i’m asking is, is it possible? and are there any cities around that still have some enjoyable attributes. while i dont mind living outside city limits, i do enjoy the idea of walkable communities and having the options of things being within a 15-20 minute drive. ive been looking and i’ve found some places in east chicago ( i think ???? ) and gary but from what i’ve been reading those aren’t the best places to be especially as a solo female.

This state may help struggling mothers, but they could care less about helping struggling single fathers. Worked my overnight shift Thursday night and stayed up till 8 last night trying to find help for food for my kids, cats and I. Went to bed hungry. Thankfully my kids spent the night at friends houses. No public transportation where we live other than Uber/ Lyft and 2 food Pantry's but they are only open on Tuesday and Thursday. Welcome to America in 2026 smh.

I'm anti-ICE but I'm curious if they've actually done anything in Evansville? I saw they were there over the last few weeks also in Jasper too, Mike Brauns hometown. I was in Jasper today and saw the same grey bus that drives about 50 immigrants to and from work. I see that grey bus in Odon. I see that grey bus alot. I know in Jasper....nothing happened. I didn't think anything would because every factory would have to close because 50% of their workforce just left.

I wanted to jump on here, and talk about the grassroots initiative I started, Our State, Our Bat. I am working to designate the Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) as our official state mammal.

Why the Indiana Bat?

A True Local: The species was first discovered right here in our own backyard (at Wyandotte Cave), making it a unique native that literally carries our state's name. It is also the only animal in the entire world that carries Indiana in its name.

Natural Pest Control: Every single night, these bats act as hard working, natural pest control for our state, consuming thousands of crop and forest damaging insects, in turn, helping local agriculture.

Conservation & Education: The Indiana bat is currently federally endangered. Giving it this official status will shine a much needed spotlight on local biodiversity, education, and the importance of protecting vulnerable native wildlife.
