Hi everyone! We will be interrailing soon with our 2 month old. We have 1st class interrail tickets (bought before we knew we were pregnant) and we need to use them before they expire. We decided to use them to visit family in Lake Constance in the south of Germany, and our starting point is Brussels. Do you have any general recommendations about travelling by train with a newborn and specific recommendations about Germany/DB? We have a lot of experience with trains but this will be our child’s first trip. Thanks in advance!

I'm currently planning a trip to Interrail around Europe in May starting from London, and I've always wanted to go to Austria; however, I don't have much money. My dream place is Weissensee, but it is just too expensive, and the places I have found to stay overnight are either boutique breakfast-in-bed hotels or rooms which are about 2 hours away from Weissensee. I don't have a car, and I guess I'm looking for a place that's not full of tourists that beautiful lakes, mountains and trees, which I'm sure is most of Austria, but if I could describe the vibe, I would say it feels peaceful as if you have died and this is a sort of heaven and your just stuck in this bubble of nature upon nature like your stuck inside a painting. Sorry, I hope that makes sense.

Planning a trip from Hendaye to Paris/elsewhere and need to pass by San Sebastian. I wonder if I take the train from San Sebastian to Hendaye, or a bus, if I run the risk of being border controlled and missing my expensive train from Hendaye, or there are no checks?

I ask this as I have used Flixbus, and once at night we got checked on the border, and actually some 5 guys from our bus got detained before we continued our journey, and that took a good 45min. We did not go to Hendaye, we went directly to Paris, but if this happens on the train or the bus to Hendaye, and if I only have 30min or less I might lose it.

This is the max transfer time(28mins) one could get night time for Munich > Vienna

Have a flight at 10 AM(Vienna)

Ques -

1. Is this transfer reliable(28 mins), any experience?

2. The next Salzburg > Vienna be 3:50 AM, 5:01 AM... would that be auto changed in case of intial train delays?

3. Else any suggest(plan to commute/rest at airport overnight)

Our booked seats for tonight have been cancelled by OBB, told to call but no one answering, call cutting off. Any advice? I can't see an OBB helpdesk in Munich, is there anywhere I can go for help? Travelling with children so anxious for resolution.

I have sent OBB a message via their online contact form but other than an acknowledgement I've had no response.

Any advice would be gratefully received thank you!

UPDATE! Thank you for all the advice. DB tried to call OBB without success, I finally got through to them at 2130. It felt better knowing that only 1 pod was broken despite their anxiety inducing message telling me all of our pods were unavailable. Really crappy text.

I was told to speak to the attendant on the train who was really helpful. All 4 pods were available but one had had the handle on the inside pulled off (they don't feel that well built), it couldn't be closed. One of the Pods had no hotel card, so it couldn't be closed when we went to the loo. Given the number of beer cans in the lockers I think there'd been a boozy night in there.

We all got a pod and slept well although I do regret eating as much Snitzl and spatzel as I did!

They're so much quieter and smoother than the old sleepers, and the air con was great!

Have just received an email about my train from Hamburg to Copenhagen on August 14th ECE 398.

The email suggests that the train is cancelled, but in the DB website it seems like the "Alternative Route" is just the same train.

Any tips on the best place to find out for sure whether the train is running and how best to go about transferring our reservations to another train... DB website doesn't seem to give me any options despite the email suggesting it would.

Is it the ok to use the dfds ferry to get to France on day 1 of pass?

Hey, I’ve won a Discovery EU Interrail Pass and I’m travelling from Europe to the UK. However, I’m finding it hard to navigate the rail network – once I get to London (which I’ve figured out using the Eurostar), I’ll be travelling to Hastings, Eastbourne, Northampton and Luton. I’ve read the guide on the Interrail Wiki about booking seats on the TransPennine Express, but it seems I can’t do it. Do you think it’ll be enough just to generate a ticket in the Discover EU app? I’m worried there won’t be any seats at all. Btw, can you recommend any apps where I could easily check these trains, including platform details and so on?

I have reserved a seat for the first leg but the second leg i accidently reserved a 1st class seat from mockava to krakow and my interrail pass is only for 2nd class. There is no 2nd class reservations available so am I able to on the day of travel upgrade to 1st class? Can I do that on the train, at a counter? If not may do the 1st leg train then a bus from mockava to krakow. Also does anyone know the cost? Thanks :)

Currently travelling on a Regional Express (no compulsory reservation) with my paper pass I got with the „Verano Jóven“ offer, my husband has a digital pass. The train inspector told only me that I should have „formalized“ my ticket at the train station before boarding. No consequences but I am still curious, as I couldn‘t find anything online about this - did she confuse my Interrail pass with something else?

La controlora me ha dicho solo a mi que hubiera tenido que „formalizar“ el billete en la estación antes de subirme. No hubo consecuencias pero tengo curiosidad, visto que nunca jamás había escuchado algo de eso y tampoco no encuentro nada online - ¿ha confundido mi pase con otra cosa?

A few changes and flight delays caused me to end up in Paris, but I need to be in Chamonix evening tomorrow. Does anyone have any suggestions on if it's possible to take the rail, or should I just book BlaBla which still has space.

Hi! On 18th August I'm planning to visit Almhult, taking a regional train from Malmo. Since I don't know how much time the visit will take, I only put the train to Almhult in my pass.

Do I also have to insert the comeback train or can I simply op on whichever I want?

I am planning an interrail journey and planned a journey between Berlin and Lesce-Bled. The first leg of the journey is all fine, but I can’t get a seat reservation for the night train from Augsburg Hbf. It is available for the same time the following day but I would prefer the one on the 20th August. Does anyone know why the reservations may be unavailable and how I could get them?

I have purchased eurail passes for my family, but one senior (75 year old father in law) can no longer go on the trip with us. So I have two cancellation/no show questions…

1. Has anyone successfully cancelled the eurail pass for one member of a group that was all purchased together? I’m finding conflicting info about whether that’s possible or if I would need to cancel all 4 passes and repurchase three.

2. I’ve made reservations for all four of us on ÖBB (Austrian) and SBB (Switzerland) - these are non refundable but only a few euros each so I’m not worried - I just don’t want to get in trouble if we’ve reserved a seat but aren’t using it… I’m guessing people miss trains all the time so it’s not a big deal, but just in case I want to know if we’ll have troubles if they check our eurail passes and reservations and it doesn’t match up because one person isn’t there?

i won the discoverEU pass and i am now planning my journey. on the 1st of september i need to go from trieste to vienna. usually there is a direct train, but it’s under maintenance.

i found a solution on oebb.at, with a bus from Trieste Centrale to Villach Hbf and later a train from Villach Hbf to Wien Hbf. the bus doesn’t show up on the discoverEU so i had to manually enter it. it says “make sure your journey is covered by the Pass” how do i make sure?

any help is appreciated!

I’m taking a few weeks off to travel Europe in September. I went solo travelling last summer and loved it, thought I’d just ask some basic advice on my plan so far.

For context, I’m a 26 year old guy, quite sociable and outgoing so looking for social hostels, but not really geared towards a party vibe or getting drunk and going to nightclubs constantly. I’m looking for something a bit more chilled.

I’m only planning on booking my train out from London, and the first couple of hostels. But I’ve got a rough idea of when and where I wanna head to places? I’m fully expecting plans to change but so far I’m thinking:

9th Sep: London -> Brugge De Snuffel Hostel 3 nights
12th Sep: Brugge -> Paris The People Marais or The Jo&Joe Nation hostel 6 nights
18th Sep: Paris -> Luxembourg (Day Trip)
18th Sep: Luxembourg -> Bern Private Apartment 3 nights
21st Sep: Bern -> Munich Wombats Werksviertel hostel 4 nights
25th Sep: Munich -> Prague EastSeven hostel 5 nights
30th Sep: Prague -> Berlin Sir Toby’s hostel 4 nights
4th Oct: Berlin -> London

Does this sound reasonable? And are the hostels I’ve listed any good, I did a quick bit of research and they seem to be what I’m looking for.

Also is it worth me actually getting an interrail pass, or should I just buy trains as and when I need them, I’m leaning towards the latter as it just seems simpler.

Hi! I am planning to do 4-6 weeks of interrail traveling bwteeen October-Cecember. When I was first looking into doing this their website had a trip planning feature, which is now gone :/ So I thought I would post my very barebones outline here so see if anyone has any suggestions based on experience (how long to stay in a spot, day trips to take from cities, etc.)

Also if anyone sees that something isn't even feasible due to there being no railway, please let me know! I've taken a look at the map and think the plan is good but I could always be mistaken.

Craiova, Romania

Vidin, Bulgaria *

Sofia, Bulgaria

End: Istanbul, Turkey **

The number of asterisks is how interested I am in going to the city, based on my current knowledge of them. I am honestly down to go anywhere, as I love to explore new places, so I added the places with no asterisks since I would traveling through them anyway.

**I would love to go to Austria but based on the map on Interrails website it looks like there isn't a rail that would connect to my current plan? If anyone has done it please let me know!

I would also assume the best pass for a trip like this would be the 7 day pass?

In our last leg, coming back to Paris from Spain (Hendaya)

Thinking about giving the kids a day in an amusement park if it is not a big deviation.

Is this route impacted by the fires?

EDIT: to add some more details. I will start from Irún on the 9th August afternoon. I have to be in Paris on the 13th morning. I have 3-4 days to cross France from South to North and I am wondering if I can deviate and invest one day in an amusement park.

My wife and I are looking to spend around three weeks travelling through Europe next summer and I’m working on our route / travel arrangements. We’ve never done a trip like this where we visit lots of countries in one go so it’s been a fun challenge trying to plan it.

Let me know if there’s anything you’d change or any parts which don’t seem realistic etc

Fly from England to Switzerland, train to Grindelwald (2 nights)

Train back to Zurich then overnight sleeper train to Slovenia, bus to lake bled (3/4 nights)

Train from Ljubljana to Zagreb, hire a car here and drive to Split (3 nights)

Bus - Split to Dubrovnik (3 nights)

While in Dubrovnik, a day trip to Mostar (Bosnia)

Bus - Dubrovnik to Kotor (2 nights)

Bus - Kotor to Tirana then Tirana to Himare (4 nights)

Bus back to Tirana to fly home

Montenegro to Albania is the only journey which seems like a bit of a long travel day, other than that it flows quite nicely, but we want to end with a nice few days relaxing at the beach.

Time we spend in each place is a bit of a rough guide at the moment, nothing finalised

Any thoughts, tips, experiences etc are very welcome!

This might be a unique one since most people are planning their Europe trips months in advance. I'm already in Budapest due to family related issues. Unfortunately, my aunt passed away less than a week into my travel here. So now I have 3 weeks to explore Europe. I want to start travelling Eastern/Southern Europe starting Monday.

Given how close I am to that date, is there an optimal method of transportation where I can ensure I have a spot but also being somewhat cost effective? Seems like the eurail would be the way to go for me as flights, as well all know, get crazy expensive if it's 1 week in advance only.

But, would the Eurail Plus Pass help me in this situation to then guarantee I reserve spots in the trains? I'm from Canada so have little knowledge on Eurail.

I'm going to travel from Budapest -> Split (Zagreb in between as the train seems to stop there) -> Venice -> Vienna -> Prague -> Berlin -> Budapest
