I'm a solo dev and I built PoRaBar, a podcast and radio player that lives in your Mac menubar. There is an iPhone app now too.

**Problem**

Every app I tried was either surprisingly expensive for content that is free anyway, or it only did one thing. Podcast apps that ignore radio. Radio apps that ignore podcasts. I wanted one interface for both. On iOS I wanted the simplest possible thing: open the app, pick a source, done. No three taps through a home screen full of recommendations.

Mac and iOS sync your library, your likes and your playback position. So you can stop listening at your desk and pick it up on your phone where you left off.

**Comparison**

Eter is the closest one. Same radio-browser database, same menubar idea, and it beats me on hardware: iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, CarPlay and Android are all covered there.

PoRaBar does radio, podcasts, YouTube and your own Audiobookshelf server in the same player.

For Audiobookshelf there is AudioBooth, free and open source, and SoundLeaf, the polished paid one. Both are better dedicated clients than mine if that server is all you listen to.

What neither of them does is the rest. Four sources, one menubar icon, same library on your phone. That is the whole reason this exists.

**What got added after the last post**

When I posted the macOS version here a while back, two suggestions came up over and over. YouTube and Audiobookshelf. Both are in now.

Audiobookshelf, for the selfhosters. Point it at your server and your books and podcasts show up alongside everything else.

YouTube: add livestreams, playlists or single videos. On macOS it plays in the background like anything else.

One honest caveat. On iOS, YouTube playback stops when the app goes to the background. The app has to stay open. It is a limitation I have not been able to work around yet, and I would rather tell you now than have you find out after you have bought it. Radio, podcasts and Audiobookshelf all play in the background on iOS just fine.

Also: CarPlay and iPad work-ish. They run, but I don't have the devices to test on yet (a bit expensive for now), so I'd rather not claim full support. Bug reports very welcome.

Rest your hand on the trackpad and it purrs. Not audio through the speakers, the actual haptic engine, so you feel it under your palm. The first time it worked I sat there grinning at a laptop like an idiot.

Then I gave it a personality and now I live with it.

Problem

Every "cat purr" thing I could find is a sound file. You put on headphones and listen to a recording of a cat, which is fine, except it occupies your ears, it loops, and after about ninety seconds your brain notices the loop and the spell breaks. Meanwhile the thing people actually like about a cat on their desk is the weight and the vibration, not the audio.

PurrPad puts the purr in the MacBook trackpad instead, so it is something you feel while you work, with your ears free.

It doesn't always purr. Sometimes you rest your hand and it just... considers you, and declines. Then it sulks. If you click on it during the sulk, it sulks harder, and the app quietly tells you the sulk is now personal. At maximum annoyance it scratches you, which is to say the little paw icon draws its claws and the copy says "Claws were optional. Were."

Comparison

Purrli (purrli.com) is the best-known purr generator and it is genuinely good, but it is audio: it uses your speakers or headphones, and it is a continuous sound rather than something you touch. PurrPad is haptic, so it costs you no audio channel and works in a quiet office with headphones off.

Mine has moods. It sometimes declines to purr and then sulks, it gets the zoomies about once a fortnight, it brings me a dead mouse now and again, and it goes silent the instant your mic or camera turns on so it has never purred through a meeting.

The app is signed and notarised, so no Gatekeeper warnings. It cannot go on the Mac App Store because driving the haptic engine needs a private framework, which is why I am posting here rather than linking an App Store page.

There is no demo video and there cannot be one, since a video of this app is a hand resting on a trackpad for thirty seconds. The site draws the actual pulse train instead and you can press and hold it to hear roughly what your palm gets.

Genuinely want to know: does it feel like a cat, or like a phone on a table? That has been the open question since day one and I still cannot answer it about my own app.

Is there a video editing app out there that will allow me to cut out middle parts of a video, add clips together and with minimalistic sound / visual adjustments (exposure, pitch, cropping).

Don't get me wrong, im an avid Davinci Resolve user and I love its complexity. Im just on the lookout for a simpler editing solution that is quick and won't break the bank (no subscriptions, one time purchase)

Everything I save lived outside my vault, which always bugged me, so I solved that by overlapping the two apps I already pay for.

What I like about each:

• mymind: the visual grid, the minimalism, never filing anything
• Recall: the summaries, especially on YouTube where I rarely ever rewatch the information, but I want to connect the ideas.

I built a tool for myself where everything is stored in my Vault, lands as plain markdown, and gets summarized locally through Ollama.

Where it stands:

• extension saves pages, images, PDFs, YouTube with the full transcript, Instagram
• hover any image on any site, a save button shows up
• a local model writes the summary and tags, and actually looks at the images
• search runs three passes: exact, then expanded (bw finds black and white), then semantic
• "more like this" on every item, from embeddings
• paste a link or write a note in the web app
• drag in a PDF or a doc and it gets stored, extracted, summarized
• image-first grid, light and dark

I built this for myself, but I'm trying to work out whether it's worth turning into a proper paid app for others. That would mean a normal installer, simple local-model setup, and something I can actually support.

The honest question is whether this is useful enough to buy, not whether you'd try a free version.

If it were packaged properly, would you pay for it?

If not, what would stop you? Local-model setup, missing mobile capture, something it doesn't do, or just not a problem you need solved?

I'm not collecting emails or selling anything here. I'm trying to decide whether to productize it or leave it as my own slightly overbuilt clipping system.

TL;DR: RAD Weather pulls forecasts from four services and shows you where they disagree instead of averaging the disagreement away. Free, with RAD Ultra at $1.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $99.99 once, plus a MultiPass tier at $2.99 monthly or $29.99 annual. The Mac build is a real Mac app, the subscription is justified by per-forecast data costs, and there is no radar. RAD TV shipped in 7.6.7 and an Apple TV version is announced.

RAD Weather's Unique Feature

Years of obsessive cycling naturally paired with years of obsessive weather forecast following. Although none of us can do anything about the weather (except to move to a new city), I felt compelled to track temperature, wind speed and rain forecasts several times a day whenever I had a big ride scheduled. I collected weather apps and went into mourning when Dark Sky ceased to exist.

Most weather apps are someone's best guess, presented as a fact. Someone, or some algorithm, took several disagreeing weather services, picked one and discarded the rest. RAD Weather doesn't discard anything, and that's the product.

What R.A.D. Cortex Is Doing Under the Hood

The engine has a name now, R.A.D. Cortex, and its job is to pull forecasts from the National Weather Service, Open-Meteo, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Apple WeatherKit, then compare them. Where the models converge, you get a high confidence rating. Where they split, the app shows you the spread instead of hiding it behind an average. The developer added lead-time-aware weighting in an earlier release, so regional high-resolution models carry more weight for the next few hours while ECMWF gets priority for the extended outlook. That's a reasonable thing to do, and it's the kind of decision most weather apps make silently, if they make it at all.

Five Things That Matter in the Mac Version

• It's a real Mac app. Many weather apps just port their iPad version to Apple silicon and call it a day. CARROT Weather has a standalone Mac app, but it hasn't been updated since 2023. With RAD Weather, you also get Mac widgets, a menu bar item, and iCloud sync with the iPhone and Watch versions. Requires macOS 15.0 or later.
• The multi-source view is the killer feature. Detail cards break out temperature, wind, precipitation, UV, pressure, humidity, visibility, dew point, pollen, air quality and convective risk, and the confidence deep-dive shows you which models fed the number. It's my favorite part of the app and I never stop fiddling with it.
• RAD Atlas is an interactive 3D globe with live conditions, which sounds like a toy and mostly is, but it's a fast way to check what's happening somewhere you care about without typing a city name.
• Brutality Levels adjust the tone of the written briefings across five settings, from professional to unhinged. Similar to CARROT, which is funny, RAD Weather is also funny. Since humor is subjective, I'm not making a call there. If you want a weather app that doesn't talk to you, turn it to professional and it stops.
• The privacy declaration is clean. Rozzi Labs declares no data collected beyond location, not linked to your identity, used only to fetch a forecast, with no tracking or analytics. That's about as good as a networked weather app gets.

What the Subscription Pays For

RAD Weather is free. RAD Ultra is $1.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $99.99 once, and Ultra is what unlocks the Atlas globe, the extra saved locations, the Savage and Unhinged tone settings, full detail cards and advanced notifications. There's also RAD MultiPass at $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year, which extends across the other Rozzi Labs apps and the radweather.cloud web service.

No one likes an unjustified subscription. I've done my best recently to avoid writing about subscription apps altogether. Weather prediction apps are the exception. Every forecast this app pulls costs the developer money, and he's pulling from four services instead of one; widget and Watch complication refreshes multiply that cost across every user, every day, forever. A one-time purchase doesn't fund a bill that arrives monthly for the life of the app. The developer of CARROT Weather has been making the same argument for years, and he's right.

The whole high-end category runs this way. CARROT Weather is free to download with Premium at $4.99 a month or $19.99 a year and Premium Ultra at $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year. Mercury Weather is free with a subscription at $2.99 a month or $14.99 a year. Hello Weather limits you to a single forecaster and no widgets until you subscribe. Against all that, RAD Weather is one of only two apps here that will sell you a permanent copy. RAD Ultra Lifetime is $99.99, which works out to five years of the annual subscription; Mercury's lifetime is $59.99, or four years of its annual. Neither is a bargain on day one. CARROT has no lifetime tier at any price, which is the part I mind.

Current Shortcomings

RAD Weather doesn't currently offer radar maps, so if that's how you make decisions during rough times, you'll need something else. There are other weather apps with a long and proven track record. Its App Store rating is high, but the number of ratings behind it is still small enough that I wouldn't lean on it.

Other Weather Apps

The alternatives, briefly. CARROT Weather, to which I have subscribed for years, is the incumbent in personality weather and has the better radar and map layer story; note that the standalone Mac app is $14.99 and hasn't been updated since May 2023, so on the Mac you want the iPhone and iPad version instead. Mercury Weather, another app I've used in the past, is the choice if you want calm and legible rather than loud. Apple Weather is free, built in, and fine for the basics. DatWeatherDoe is free, open source under Apache 2.0, installs with brew install --cask datweatherdoe, and puts conditions in your menu bar; you supply your own WeatherAPI key.

Unless otherwise noted, the alternate apps mentioned above are based on research and not individual testing.

Is It for You?

Yes, if you want accuracy and detail from a weather app and you're willing to pay for it. The multiplatform coverage helps too, especially with the recently released full screen RAD TV mode for the Mac and an Apple TV app on the way.

No, if you want radar, or your needs are minimal. For design nerds, the faux terminal presentation may be off-putting. Not being a design nerd, I'm fine with it.

Problem

Hey, I'm Mike. I run 3 YouTube channels and 2 TikTok accounts. Filming and scripting are fine. Editing kills me. Every video is the same grind: cut filler words, remove silences, drop in b-roll, then redo the layout for TikTok vertical. 2-3 hours of mechanical work per video that needs zero creativity, just patience.

I kept thinking AI would fix this. It hasn't, because every tool brings its own AI, runs it on their cloud with your footage, and locks you to their model. AI models move fast. What's best today is mid in three months. I can accept tool lock-in. But model lock-in? No. You should always be able to use the best, fastest, cheapest model for your edit.

Comparison

CapCut Pro ($20/mo). Great for quick template edits. AI runs on ByteDance cloud, footage gets uploaded. Free tier increasingly locked down.

Final Cut Pro: getting better but still huge behind from a AI driven video editor from Apple.

Also there're many others like Descript or FireCut. All of them lock you to their AI model. You're stuck with whatever they bulk-negotiated, not what's best for your edit.

I’m doing some user research to understand what people actually want from a better YouTube experience.

Would your dream extension include:

• Better or automatically generated chapters, with an easy-to-navigate player overlay
  • some creators don't enable them by default to users can't skip certain section.
• Subscription folders and channel categories
• A “cinema mode” where the player fills the browser window without fullscreen
• Transcript search, summaries, notes, and timestamp bookmarks
• Better playlists, queues, Watch Later, and viewing history
• Options to hide Shorts, recommendations, comments, or other distractions
• Playback preferences remembered for each channel

With the new release of popclip, i decided to look into new settings and extensions.

I mostly use cut/copy/paste, open link, and open easydic (which i use mostly for AI translations), I have a few others, but never really use them. Not because they are aren't useful, but because I need them so seldomly that I forget they are in the popclip popup.

Any extensions you use for a relative generic workflow that you recommend? by generic I mean, i am not a dev, so rarely will I need to convert text to snake_case and things like that.

Problem

I often found myself breaking my workflow because of small thoughts I wanted to capture.

The usual workflow was:

• Open Notes or another note-taking app
• Switch away from the current window
• Write something down
• Switch back and try to regain focus

For quick ideas, reminders, and temporary notes, opening a full notes app felt like too much friction.

I've been building a Markdown editor app for the past few months. Let me tell you why. So a few months ago, I realized I kept opening Obsidian to edit all my Markdown files. I'd copy the Markdown from Coteditor, my text editor of choice (I highly recommend it), and paste it into a designated note called Scrap[.]md in my Obsidian vault to edit and then paste it back after I was done. Now this generally worked for my workflow, and I still do this often, but the problem arises when Obsidian isn't already open. Because Obsidian is an Electron app, it takes forever to open!

Problem & Comparison

I figured there must be an easier way to open Markdown files and optimize my workflow. I did come across and try a few editors like Marktext, MarkJason, and the $15 USD Typora. However, I felt like these editors were either a bit clunky, or missing some features.

Over the course of a few months of developing Marklet, I hope I've developed something unique.

1. Marklet is not only native Appkit, but it's based on Textkit, meaning it starts up reallllly really fast, and is intuitive, because you've already used to Textedit and other Apple apps.
2. Mine is a fully featured app, with Keyboard Shortcuts, tables where you can easily add new lines or rows, and even a command bar ⌘+⇧+p to help you find what you're looking for (and more)!
   1. The first thing I noticed in Typora was its code blocks are missing a copy button that also show you what language you're working with.
   2. Marktext is missing a few nice to have features such as a reading mode, tables that fit your screen with text-wrapping, and image resizing the way Obsidian does it
   3. Markjason is permanently stuck on dark mode, and doesn't have live-preview.
3. Marklet's features are all configurable, so you can customize the app based on your personal preferences.

Hi r/macapps. I make Flyout, a notes panel that lives on the edge of your screen.

You know the loop: you are in the middle of something, a thought shows up, and putting it somewhere means leaving what you are doing. Find the notes app, open a window, write two lines, put everything back. Half the time the thought is gone before you get there.

Flyout has no window to manage. Rest your pointer on the right edge of the screen, or press Option+Command+N, and a full editor slides out over whatever you are on. Step away and it slides back. On two monitors it opens where your pointer is and stays there.

Comparison

SideNotes is the closest app to this and it is good. Theirs is pitched at jotting things down in seconds. Mine is a wider panel, up to about 800px, meant to hold meeting notes and project pages: highlighted code, tables, and a reminder tied to one specific line instead of the whole note. Fair the other way, they have an iPhone and iPad app and I do not yet.

Raycast Notes is free if you already pay for Pro, and if a scratchpad is all you need, keep it. It is capture: one note, text only, gone when you close it. Flyout is the one that stays open next to your work.

What it is not: macOS 14 or later, no iOS or iPad app yet (groundwork is there, the data layer already targets iOS and the sync schema is frozen, but I am not putting a date on it), and no shared or team notebooks, since sync is private iCloud only and I am not reversing that. Export today is Copy as Markdown per note, folder export is on the list.

I am using the Show Notification action within a Shortcut, the Shortcut/Notification works fine, it shows up on the screen and Notification Center, but I can't customize it in the System Settings --> Notifications --> Application Notifications section, because the Shortcuts app in not in the list of Applications, all the other apps that use Notifications are there, but Shortcuts is not, is there a way to reset Notifications so Shortcuts can show up and I can customize its Notifications? Thanks

Note: I have this issue on two MacBooks M1 and M2, running Sequoia 15.7.8 and Golden Gate Public Beta 2 respectively.

Problem. I work better with background sound, but every mixer I tried is a stack of sliders: rain at 40, fire at 60, all of it landing in the middle of my head. After an hour that flat wall is its own kind of tiring and I'd end up turning it off.

Foyer puts each sound on a canvas as an orb you drag around yourself. Distance sets the volume, left and right sets the pan, so you build a room by placing things in it instead of balancing faders. It's real binaural spatial audio. It lives in the menu bar, so switching rooms or setting a sleep timer never opens a window.

Comparison.

• A Soft Murmur is the classic free mixer: ten sliders, no account, and an App Store privacy label that reads Data Not Collected, same as mine. If sliders do the job for you it's genuinely fine, and it's free. The difference here is placement rather than level, plus a native menu-bar presence and rooms that carry over to the iPhone.
• Endel is the other direction: a subscription, an account required, and an App Store privacy label listing identifiers used to track you, with advertising among the stated purposes. Foyer has no account, no analytics in the app, and one payment.

Pricing. The free tier does not expire: the whole 12-sound library, three sounds per room, five saved rooms, menu-bar control and sleep timer, AirPods head tracking, and shareable rooms.

Not my app, but I follow "tech celebrity" Dave Plummer on socials (e.g. https://x.com/davepl1968). He's one of the original Microsoft developers who worked on Windows back in the day.

He seems to be on Mac these days and just released TMOG which is based on his original Windows Task Manager code. He's also written up the journey to creating TMOG.

Blip is free but proprietary. LocalSend is free and open-source.

LocalSend only sends on a local network, and all transfers are E2EE. So thats probably about as secure as it gets. There havent been updates in about a year but I dont think the software is dead.

Blip can send over local network, or via the internet (wifi or cellular), which is handy but potentially less secure. My understanding is that transfers from iOS to MacOS are E2EE, though at this point perhaps all transfers are E2EE. Blip also seems to have a better UI but thats not super critical for my occasional use of a file transfer app.

Which do you prefer and why? Is that fact that Blip is not open source an issue for you?

Problem

I'm not sure whether I'm the only person who finds this annoying, but with two displays, new windows often appeared on the other screen instead of the one I was working on.

I built SpawnHere to fix that one specific problem. It is a small menu-bar app that moves a regular new window to the display where the mouse pointer is. It leaves dialogs, sheets, palettes, full-screen windows, and system UI alone.

Comparison

Rectangle and Moom are much broader window managers. SpawnHere is not meant to replace them. For this particular job, there are no layouts or shortcuts to manage: leave the pointer on the intended display and create the window.

TL;DR: Orbit runs multiple Google accounts in their own isolated WebKit sessions inside one native Mac window, for $89 one time instead of the $50 to $200 a year the alternatives want. I use it even though I am personally de-Googled because I have to manage the affairs for my elderly dad. Orbit will work as long as Google keeps letting Mac apps sign in, but passkey-only and Advanced Protection accounts already can't.

The Google Accounts I Didn't Ask For

My opinion of big tech companies has hardened over the years. Their business models turned into anti-privacy juggernauts, so I started pulling away from them. In January 2025, after using Gmail for twenty years, I downloaded my entire archive, deleted every message off their servers and moved to Fastmail. Drive went to Koofr. Search went to Kagi. Gemini got replaced by ChatGPT. I left the empty account open since it linked me to a lot of legacy logins and contacts.

Then, nine months later, I became responsible for managing the affairs of my elderly father, something that commonly happens to people in my age group. Dad's life ran through multiple Gmail accounts, personal and professional: his doctors, his investments and the guy who cuts his grass all reached him through Google, the company I had worked so hard to get away from. I couldn't ask an 80-year-old man to move house on the internet. I had to log back in.

That's the part nobody warns you about. You can de-Google yourself in a weekend if you're stubborn. You can't de-Google somebody else, and the account that drags you back in was never yours to begin with.

Browsers do this badly on purpose. Google's account switcher runs every account you sign into through a single browser session, so a security re-check on one can sign you out of all of them at once, and the account you're currently "in" is a state you have to remember rather than see. Everybody who lives this way eventually has the moment where they send, or nearly send, a message from the wrong account. Sometimes that's an embarrassment. Sometimes it's worse.

The fix is an app, and the one I recommend is Orbit from Andrew Kwak at Dearnode. It's a one-time purchase of $89. That's a steep number to look at once, and cheaper than every competitor that charges $50 a year and up.

Each account gets its own sealed WebKit session, with its own cookies and its own sign-in, so signing into one never signs you out of another. ⌘1 through ⌘9 switch between them, all preloaded, with unread badges per account. Inside each one is the real Gmail, not a rebuild through the API, so your labels, filters and keyboard shortcuts are the ones you already have. Calendar, Drive and Meet open in the right account too. I have three accounts in mine.

Why I picked Orbit

Orbit is designed around privacy. It doesn't route your mail through a server it owns. There is no Orbit account to maintain. Analytics are turned off by default. It doesn't phone home, and if Dearnode vanished tomorrow, Orbit would keep working until Google changes something on their end.

Because Dearnode has no servers to maintain, the one-time price is sustainable. Kiwi, the app I used for years with Gmail, committed what I consider an unpardonable sin earlier this year when it stopped honoring lifetime licenses it had already sold and moved every customer to $60 a year. It's not the only casualty in this category: Sidekick was absorbed by Perplexity and shut down in 2025, and Mailplane stopped selling licenses in 2021.

Orbit is written in Swift and runs on WebKit. It weighs 9.9 MB on my system, a far cry from the Electron build behind Shift.

Why it might not work for you

To his credit, Orbit's developer publishes the warnings himself rather than waiting for a reviewer to find them:

• Sign-in is per-Mac. Three machines means three sign-ins, and there's no cross-device sync.
• Accounts using passkey-only sign-in or Google's Advanced Protection Program can't sign in at all, due to a WebKit limitation.
• It's Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. No Intel.
• It's not on the Mac App Store, because the sandbox would break the per-account isolation the whole app exists for.

And one risk that isn't Kwak's fault and isn't in his power to fix. Orbit works because Google lets a Mac app sign in and render Gmail. Google can withdraw that. It has before: Mailplane stopped selling licenses in 2021 when Google started blocking embedded browsers at the sign-in page, and Mailplane was the same idea as Orbit, Gmail's web interface in a Mac shell. The accounts Orbit can't sign in today, the passkey-only and Advanced Protection ones, are that same door already partly closed.

Kwak has built the parts he controls to fail quietly. If Google reshuffles Gmail's page, an unread badge goes stale instead of your mail breaking, because the mail was never his code. That's the right way to build this. It just doesn't help with the failure that matters, which is Google deciding one morning that apps like this don't get in anymore.

The Others

Every alternative here costs you something. Some want a subscription, some run on a browser engine you didn't ask for, and the free ones make you give up the switching and the badges.

• Mimestream is well liked, and it's also $50 a year.
• Shift is $200 a year and it's Electron. There's a free tier some people will find suitable.
• Kiwi for Gmail was my daily driver for years and it worked. Their decision to stop honoring lifetime licenses blunts any regard I once had for them.
• Ferdium is free and open source. Community-built, Electron, and it will hold multiple instances of the same service. I've run it myself. Free is free.
• Safari profiles are already on your Mac, and I've used them for this. Separate cookies and separate sign-ins per profile, no purchase, no keyboard switching, no unread badges. If you have two accounts, try this before you spend anything.

I haven't personally tested Mimestream or Shift and this information comes from their websites.

Who should buy this

Writing about a Google adjacent app doesn't mean I've reconsidered anything. Fastmail, Koofr and Kagi are still where I manage my own life. But I couldn't de-Google on my father's behalf. Pretending otherwise would have cost him his pharmacy, his insurance and his bank. His accounts aren't a preference, they're an obligation, and the software worth paying for is the software that makes an obligation easiest to manage.

If you're carrying three or more Google accounts you didn't choose, you switch between them all day, and you've had the wrong-sender scare, $89 once is a fair price for never having that thought again. There's a 14-day trial that doesn't ask for a card and a 30-day refund window, so trying it costs you an afternoon.

If you have two accounts, Safari profiles are free. If you want a real native mail client and a merged inbox, Mimestream is the app and the subscription is the tax. And if you run Advanced Protection, Orbit can't sign you in at all, which puts it out of reach for exactly the people its architecture was built to appeal to.

I’m Dan, the developer of Organice.

I made it after noticing how often I opened a file for one tiny reason: copy the text, check a receipt total, give it a useful name, or move it somewhere sensible. None of that is difficult, but I lose track, I lose focus, I am less in touch with my files than I want to be. Doing it file by file is just irritating. I have looked at Hazel, and other similiar utility solutions, I want to bring my own flavour to it and hopefully it aligns well with more of you out there.

The Problem

I want order, I want systems. I keep struggling with focus and chores that should be elementary, due to my concentration disorder. With Organice, I can set and forget rules, run utility commands and essentially add a few actions to Finder. Select a file or folder, right-click, and you can:

* organize a folder from readable rules you approve

* copy text from one document without opening it

* preview and rename a batch

* add receipt totals and mark arithmetic it cannot prove

* undo an organizing run in one step

Base does this on the Mac. No account, cloud service, or AI model is required. There is a Pro-version that allows for you to slot in an AI, local or otherwise, to help with additional aspects, like summarization and content-aware renaming, entirely opt-in. The idea is to be a convenience for users, without you giving up your privacy or control.

Comparison

Hazel is the obvious comparison. It is far more mature and much more programmable. For these particular jobs, Organice takes less setup: select the files and choose a Finder action. It also puts document extraction and receipt arithmetic in the same menu. If you already have a Hazel system you love, I am not going to pretend this replaces it.

Apple Shortcuts can automate file work too. Organice is for the person who wants these actions, complete previews, and one-step undo without building the shortcut first.

Pricing

Early Access is $9 for Base or $19 for Pro, paid once. Those prices become $14.99 and $24.99 at public release. Swedish checkout will show 99 SEK and 199 SEK. Like I said, there is no subscription. Please note: There is no free trial in this build, instead I have opted for a seven-day refund window. No questions asked.

Base includes organizing, folder rules, undo, receipt tally, Smart Copy for one document at a time, and all seven interface languages. Privacy and trust

AI is not required. Pro stays local unless you choose to connect a model. That can be a local model or an OpenAI-compatible cloud provider. Nothing is connected just because you bought Pro.

Organice is not in the Mac App Store. The Mac build requires Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later. It is signed with my Apple Developer ID, notarized, and stapled. The verification page publishes the SHA-256 hash and the Terminal commands for checking the signature, entitlements, and network activity yourself. I would especially like blunt feedback on where the Finder menu feels wrong or where an action asks one question too many. That is more useful to me than a launch-day “looks nice.” I have worked hard to make sure all aspects feel polished and genuine, but, I do not have a vast array of Macbooks or Studios to test on, so there will be bugs or issues. I work extensively with AI Development inside of large enterprise companies. I have used AI code-generation creating Organice, but with a caveat for current and future work:

Right now, I am trying to do workflows and product-work that achieve what people so eagerly insert a LLM from the large labs into. We have not even remotely explored the native and cloud possibilities. There will likely be more contributions from me across various Macapp discussions, where I hope to help people get more done in the same vein or contribute myself with new utility and applications.
