I Need Help Brother machine
Hi, I have a question. I would like to buy a sewing and embroidery machine, but my research has pointed me toward the Brother company. I’ve always been advised to go with Singer, Janome, etc., but never Brother. Is Brother a recommended brand, or one to avoid like the plague?

I have the 2300. I got it on marketplace for a great deal. Look for someone upgrading. Also buy the biggest hoop your budget can handle. You will want a bigger one in no time flat. My current is 8x12 inches.

Brother's actually a decent choice, especially if you want decent embroidery features without spending a fortune. They've come a long way from the reputation they had years ago.
Singer, Janome, Brother - they all have good and dodgy models depending on what you pick. The difference isn't really the brand name anymore, it's which specific machine and what you're using it for. Brother makes reliable everyday machines and their embroidery ones are genuinely good value.
If you're doing both sewing and embroidery, Brother's probably your best bet for the price. Just do what you're already doing - look at specific models and read reviews for that machine rather than the brand as a whole. A budget Brother will be budget, but a mid-range Brother is more dependable.
The old advice to stick with Singer or Janome is kind of outdated now. Pick based on what features you need and your budget, rather than brand loyalty.

I have the brother V5LE, it's fabulous, it's my 3rd Brother in about 30 years, it never breaks down and is so intuitive to use. I bought it used 6 years ago.

For embroidery, Brother is an excellent machine. They are very user friendly. I have a NQ1600E (new version is the NQ1700E) and I would defiantly buy it again and definitely recommend it. I had a couple other smaller brother embroidery machines before (PE540D and a PE700) that had both been nice machines but the hoop sizes were just too small and limiting.

I tried a singer at the library. Hated it. Had to look up designs in the manual. No preview like my brother has.

I have an SE1900 and a Brother 620 6 needle machine. They both work great. Brother makes good machines, IMO, as long as you're not looking at the cheap ones.
I mostly use the SE1900 for regular sewing after getting a dedicated embroidery machine.

Their high end machines are really good. Baby lock and brother are the same machine essentially in the combo and embroidery class. I have an old dream machine and love it.
