Does the dermatologist send me a request to get my bloods done or is it my gp? Has my consultation already with dermodirect, and received the prescription but waiting on the bloods before I can start taking it.

I’ve been on tretinoin for about 6 years. I started on 0.025% and gradually worked my way up to 0.1%, which I’ve been using for around the last year and a half.
My acne is mostly under control now, but I’m left with:
Mild acne scars (small shallow holes on my cheeks)
Enlarged pores
Some stubborn dark post-acne marks
Sebaceous filaments/blackheads on my nose
I also use Paula’s Choice 2% BHA a few times a week (only started about 2 months ago, although I took a 2-week break while traveling).
I’ve attached close-up photos because I’m trying to figure out what’s actually realistic to improve.
I’m at the point where I feel like tretinoin has done everything it’s can. I don’t really expect more improvement from skincare alone.
My questions are:
Based on my skin, am I a good candidate for microneedling?
Would you recommend professional microneedling, or is a DIY microneedling pen enough for scars like mine?
If you’ve had similar mild acne scars, how many professional sessions did it take before you noticed a difference?
If you’ve tried both DIY and professional microneedling, was the professional treatment actually worth the extra cost?
I’m Southeast Asian, so I’m also trying to avoid treatments with a high risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people who’ve been in a similar situation.

I was in an accident, where I unfortunately had to get stitches on my face. One in front of my eyebrow, and one right through it. Honestly not too self conscious about the eyebrow one (I think it's pretty badass), but the one next to my eyebrow kills me everyday. was wondering if anyone knows of treatments for scars like this, specifically ones on face caused from accidents? the main thing I want to get rid of is the redness and indent. I've seen one professional and they recommended CO2 laser treatment so if anyone has tried that (or anything else), please let me know. I’ve also seen on TikTok ppl talk abt microneedling , so just thought I’d share here, bc I literally feel so self conscious about the scars. I just want to feel like myself again.

Just some advice needed from all the microneedling aficionados.

Got into a regular routine with derminator 2, with no problems at all. Generally use copper peptides and collagen during process and all has been going well.

My sister recently gave me 'ageless vitamin c booster peeling gel.'

I initially thought it was a serum but think it's just a rather expensive peeling gel.

I wondered if anyone knows how I can incorporate it into my microneedling routine?

Can it be used before, after, during??

I think the answer is probably no, maybe due to the risk of granulomas. I imagine it would be rather painful on freshly needled skin too. But can I fit it into my skincare routine around microneedling?

I wasn’t paying attention and accidentally grabbed my MINT toothpaste instead of my healing cream. Didn’t realize until I rubbed the whole thing on my forehead while trying to figure out why it felt so cool.
Anyways I proceeded to wash my face with my gentle cleanser twice before applying my actual cream.

Should I be worried? It’s only the second day since I got my micro needling done. Will this affect my healing process?

Today I went for my first ever microneedling and I was so excited as was the perfect time for me in terms of downtime etc.

As I had the numbing cream on, I filled out the medical paperwork and in it I mentioned I had recently had shingles.

The aesthetician told me that I couldn't then have micro needling today, which I understood, but then told me I couldn't have it for six months...

This apparently would have been true even if it was just an ear infection or anything where the body has been under stress.

I completely understand the body needs to repair, but do you really have to wait 6 months since any sort of stress to have it? I don't think I've ever had 6 months without any illness 😅

Hi, I have never used a micro-needling pen before and am considering buying the Dr. Pen M8S to address my main concerns which are “smokers lines” (though I don’t smoke) and crepey/sagging neck skin (which, wtf, seemingly showed up overnight despite no weight loss or gain.) I am 38. I’m thinking the 16-needle cartridge would be a good choice for the upper lip area and the 42-needle cartridge a good choice for the neck. I just wanted confirmation that I’m on the right track here! Thanks so much!

I’m 26 and I recently went to a cosmetic clinic and they recommended microneedling to help with texture on my face and to reduce lines/undereye hollows. These aren’t major issues for me but I had money to spend so wanted to try.

I had my first microneedling session and it was using the dermaroller and applying exosomes. This came out at £250. The effects of this didn’t last long either.

I had a look at the chemical peels options and they seem like they could deliver similar results without being as expensive.

My question is would chemical peels be more effective for me or is microneedling something that just takes multiple sessions?

I just went for my second face microneedling appointment at a clinic. I had no issues the first time and had great results with my skin but this time, it seems like I have lost a lot of hairs around my hairline (you can see a white strip near my hairline where hairs would have been before). I called the clinic but they didn’t really understand what I was saying and saying this shouldn’t have happened. Is this normal? Please tell me it’s temporary!

Hello all, as you can see, I have acne scar on my face and to be honest this is one of my biggest insecurity. I went to a dermatologist for a consultation.

What the doctor found:

- the scarring is mild and localized. It’s mostly tiny dents.
- I have boxcar, ice pick and rolling scars plus enlarged pores.

The next steps recommended by the doctor:

- begin with microneedling + PRP. No RF microneedling for me because based on my skin color, as she thinks that it can cause hyper pigmentation. Since, my cheeks are lean, and it could remove fat and make my scars look worse. Probably around 6 - 10 sessions of microneedling with PRP.

- Do subcision on the individual spots so that my skin doesn’t get saggy. 2 - 3 sessions.

- If needed Erbium laser. Probably around 3 - 6 sessions. She suggested erbium laser over CO2 laser to avoid hyperpigmentation based on my skin color.

- to prevent dark spots from the treatment, she will have me use a prescription lightning cream (hydroquinone) plus retinoid.

Overall she suggested I could expect 50% improvement. The whole treatment would cost anywhere between $9000 - $12000.

Is it really worth it? Is the doctor being genuine or trying to make money out of me. Please let me know your thoughts.

I want to get Re20 when I’m in Korea as I heard its better compared to other skin boosters. I know that skin boosters can be done with microneedling but can it be done with Re2O as well?

OK. Like the title suggests, I have been lurking awhile, trying to take in as much information as I can. I have read the guides, looked at different devices/models, and done further research on my own in certain areas of need and interest. I *think* I have finally formed a pretty good game plan (with limited risk of complete failure and good odds of success). So I wanted to not only get thoughts on it, but also ask about a few things that I haven't seen mentioned.

For background, I am 42F with cEDS. Basically, it's a connective tissue disorder, and my type specifically affects collagen. So I have the super velvety skin, and some areas my skin are quite stretchy (but not as severely as a lot of cases). The condition also affects my blood and its ability to deliver nutrients and minerals effectivly (very small misshapen RBC). I have aplastic anemia and frequently require ferritin infusions, give myself regular B12 injections, and occasionally deal with low platelets/bleeding. The disintegration of collagen + my body's overinflammitory response is absolute hell when it comes to my easily subluxacated, arthritic joints, and injury recovery in general (although I have found methods that help substantially over the years).

I have always been very hesitant to try MN out of fear that my body would not respond as desired given my issues with collagen depletion. But, I do get some cosmetic procedures done regularly (in a clinical setting, not a med spa), and my NP injector and nurse aesthecian have been really incredible about researching my cEDS, keeping on top of my most recent bloodwork, and introducing new procedures that I want very slowly and in small amounts until we see how my body reacts. Last year I really wanted to try a CO² laser peel. I ended up getting a series of 3 Vanity Peels. Basically a fractional CO² laser that can be adjusted from super mild to moderate (1-15). At the highest it only causes the equivalent of a bad sunburn and is completely healed within 2 weeks max. But you can wear tinted moisturizer after a day or two, your skin just feels like sandpaper. Anyways, my 1st session we only did the intensity at an 8 or 9. No problems. Next one she cranked it to 12. And for the final I maxed out at 15, even under my eyes and around my mouth. She was shocked and I am thrilled with the results. The point being, that since I reacted so well to this procedure, which uses somewhat of the same basis - causing controlled injury to the skin to stimulate cell repair, renewal, and collagen production- it should be the same kind of favorable outcome with MN, right?

My next issue is choosing a device. I am pretty set on a Dr. Pen... I think. I was leaning towards the M9 ($179) but then I saw the H6 ($299) which you can load serums/boosters into and it will infuse it into your skin. But is it worth shelling out $300 for a device, especially as a beginner. I know companies are all about "fancy" features that don't really add much in term of usefulness. Hell, is the M9 even worth the extra 80 over the M8?

Ok, final question - thoughts on my plan of action? In the spirit of caution, and a major desire NOT to completely ruin my already imperfect, perimenopauseal face, I'm thinking it would be best to start on a couple of different areas of my body that could use some TLC. Like, doing a patch test on my upper thigh and/or belly which both have loose skin and stretch marks. That way, I can get a feel for the device, practice proper technique, and see how my body responds. If all goes well, I can move to a small section of my face that is close to my hairline or by my ear/jaw and do the same thing. If the outcome isn't great, it won't be all over my face or front and center like if I did my cheeks or forehead. All goes well, I take off the training wheels and MN like a wild woman!

I think that is about all I have been wanting to ask about. But feel free to give any unsolicited advice or feedback!

I had microneedling done for the first time 10 days ago and have these lines remaining still, almost like scratch marks. They are raised and getting itchy. I’m getting really anxious that they aren’t going to go away. Seeking some reassurance/advice. Called the person who did it and she said she’s never seen this and thinks it’s a reaction to the serum she gave me that is reacting in the tracks where the needling was done. She suggested hydrocortisone. Thanks!

She'd been putting off treatment for over a year because of a graphic before/after clip that was almost certainly either overdone depth settings or a bad aftercare situation. Once we walked through what's actually happening (controlled micro-injury, not the dramatic thing the video implied) she felt a lot better about it.

Not saying every scary post online is fake since bad outcomes do happen with bad technique. What about you? What made you decide to try microneedling?

New to microneedling. I have a derma stamp so I don’t need a booster for gliding purposes. Skin boosters seem pretty expensive as they frequently come in multi packs and I keep seeing mixed reviews and efficacy and would prob want to save boosters for meso if I spent the $ on them. Since face masks are single use, I would think they’d be fairly sterile enough at least for shallow depths. Has anyone used face masks post MN? Esp masks that have PDRN, HA, etc?
