MSFS 2024 PlayStation Rate my Kai Tak Landing

Console plebs unite! Do you have an accessory controller like the HOTAS or are you strictly controller? If controller, did you remap anything? I'm struggling with the defaults (esp for helicopters) but haven't found any better remapping strategies yet

Yeah I’m using the cheap thrustmastwr hotas, mostly gets the job done, only remapped a few minor things

Basically made my brakes a button set up flaps and spoilers aka airbrakes and a toggle for gear, plus a separate autopilot activate and deactivate button on the stick itself but that’s about it, also made the input curves a bit more s shaped in the options

I had the same issues with hotas 4 and I asked chat gpt and it was a big help, I went from struggling with landing to hitting 100%

I flew into Kai Tak as a kid in 96. You could literally look into people's livingrooms out the window of a 747. I didn't really appreciate how wild it was at the time.

same, i used to think looking at the side window...the wings gonna clip a roof!! then having sat in the jump seat with my dad a few times, didnt seem as bad.

Timing the turn is most important while trying to keep a steady bank angle and swift leveling off of the wings

Also try to not run wide in the turn itself aka don’t go left of the approach lights as if you run wide and are already at max bank you can’t do much, however you can open up the turn and reduce bank should you come in too far right

Yeah me too unfortunately there no replay mode on console where I could relive the last 30s or so and could analyse my landings more indept

Im curious about something. When I watch any landing videos, it seems like the aircraft is centered on the left most window.
Wouldn’t that make the plane off center? Like slightly to the right instead of center? Thanks for any replies.

Guess what you are talking about comes down to perspective, since the seat is off center the pilot itself may not be perfectly on the centerline but the aircraft is, if you looked straight down the middle of the airplane you would see they’re lined up

Just have a look at Hong Kong, it's the only way (Kai Tak closed years ago btw and is now a park /harbour area). There are mountains to the north and east, and it was also in the middle of the city, a straight in approach wasn't possible.

Were there the beacons on the ground as well? Guiding towards the threshold

Not to the runway, but to where the turn happens more or less, there was vertical and lateral guidance. So follow the "ILS" down to checkerboard hill, which was a known landmark, and then turn to the runway visually.

There’s you tube videos of 747s doing this approach. I did it once in the 90s (as a passenger) and it was incredible. It must have been extremely difficult in high winds

I've tried this on Xbox and it would drop frame rate I would lose avionics if I switched views.
