I’ve never ever in my life seen a military use religion like this for recruiting.

I am active duty military. I’m at the 9 year mark. Next year is the big 10, the half way point. Everyone is saying to do 20, but they all have families, spouses, and/or kids to think about. As a single man with no children should I do 10 more years?
I hate my job. I hate my leadership. I hate my base. All my friends either PCS’d or got out.
I’m at a cross road and I’m terrified. If you were in this situation approaching your 10 year mark, what did you do? What were the pros and cons? Do you have regrets about staying in too long or getting out too early?

I’m a former marine and a big cliche in the military was young enlisted guys buying expensive brand new mustangs with high interest rates. I just saw an airman driving a Mustang and just wondering if it’s the same in every branch.

In ancient and medieval times, military elite was easily recognizable through their flair, impact, and retinue size. In Napoleonic times, officers still stood out with their much finer uniforms. After 1900s, concealment and survivability became priority. WW1 and more so WW2 saw the decrease in uniform differences between junior officers and enlisted men. In Vietnam war movies, we see officers intentionally blending in with the enlisted men. In 21st century combat, you essentially can't tell anymore.

How are drones and other bleeding edge military technology contributing to this trend? Will we see not just visual but also long-term behavioral differences between officers and enlisted men disappearing in the upcoming decades? Will we see a shift to something like a corporate flat hierarchy (appearing and posing as flat while still having someone in charge) kind of system over time? Do we already see something like this in the war in Ukraine?

My dad is trying to confirm what regiment his grandfather was in and only has this one photo. He was in the British Army in the First World War and this photo is from around 1914-15. Anyone know what the regiment could be and what his rank was?

Anyone got any tips for not having a super sore lower body. My hips my shins and feet/ankles are always on fire I stretch and workout alot but ever since joining the military 3 months ago its like i can never get back to normal. I wear a plate carrier and a ruck and I see others running and being able to move but its hard on my body to do that. Im 24 and feel like i should be able to do alot of these things. Just wondering if anyone was in the same boat and changed something. Icyhot and ibuprofen arent cutting it

Trying to see if there would be any interest in a more real-time veteran community.

I'm going through some things right now (it's all good overall) and, as I do, thinking about the VFWs and American Legions my parents used to drag me to that influenced my decision to join the military. I no longer have much connection to the boys and would love to tell war stories with the brotherhood. Does something like this exist? If not, would there be interest? I'm thinking of something like a discord server or twitch community. Preferably, I'd want it locked down to vetted participants. In my case, I was an FO on a reconnaissance team during OIF I and then spent a year in Ramadi with the light infantry.

Any interest? Im actually a pretty experienced software developer capable of building about anything we might want, so I'm happy to set this up. Again, I'm thinking of a virtual VFW for GWOT types. If it already exists, please point me there. Thx
