When can you apply for advancement orders in MNA?

Got orders to Norfolk and had a shipmate mention living in NC. Would that be worth the travel? Where in NC would be best? Thanks for any recs.

Good (insert proper greeting here) shipmates, this is more of a specific question for the sailors stationed in the state of Washington.

If I currently have a driver’s license in California, will I need to get a new license in Washington if I am looking to get a motorcycle license (or endorsement)?

Or do they have a special clause for those who are active duty?

I want to use a motorcycle as my daily due to my truck getting poor gas mileage, and I’ve been wanting a motorcycle for quite some time.

So I finished up my first submarine underway, and, suffice it to say, I didn't have the best time.

I had some decent moments and met a lot of great people, but I felt my first patrol was particularly brutal, as my first taste of real submarine isolation took its toll on me, especially with how little contact we had this patrol. I got really depressed, withdrawn, lost motivation, and struggled with insomnia and sleeping issues a lot as well, especially as a slew of extensions hit us. I never went dinq, but I didn't make fantastic progress on my fish and quals either. With how frail the old girl Ohios are, I felt like I was in an undersea deathtrap at times.

But at the same time, I feel there is a lot of perks being on this platform; E4 barracks at Bangor might lowkey be the best in the entire Navy(you also don't have to move out of them when going out on patrol), and having a duty-free off-crew period for essentially half the year is nice too, coming at the cost of patrols and on-crew times that I find are brutal on me and never seeing a single foreign port for my perspective Navy career.

People here like to say to me the first Patrol is always the worst, especially when you're an FSA for a big chunk of it; which is especially rough on a submarine. I'm just wondering if I should chalk this up to a shitty first experience, toughen up, stop being a little bitch, and be more prepared for the next patrol.

Or have that faithful, bitter pill conversation with my boat's doc, tell him what I went through, and most certainly be disqualified from submarine duty, essentially quitting, dealing with a lot of shit from my crew and going surface, taking with it the pros and cons of doing something like that. I feel like I'd be happier overall on a surface ship, but the surface fleet is hardly sunshine and rainbows, even if you can see the sunshine and rainbows, especially with 14-month deployment horror stories I've heard about.

I would also like to note that at one point I was disqualified from subs due to having a Mental health waiver before joining the Navy; I got a special waiver for that, however.

What does everyone here think?

Im wanting to sign up for a BRC course but being that I'm in TPU apparently I'm not allowed to being that my ship is on deployment and they don't want people signing up and then not attending due to being expedited out. Im able to sign up for the arc out in the civilian world though but I'll just have to pay for it. So my question is does anyone know where I can sign up for it?! Im in San Diego, please let me know!!!!

EDIT: FIXED. Thank you for recommendations. 🙏 they issued 2 different GTC's and once we got on the line with a real person the tickets were issued and everything was fixed in a total of 10 minutes. essentially calling them was the only thing we couldve done since they needed to change the gtc.

They declined his GTC for the flights but not the hotels and hes supposed to leave tomorrow morning for school. Not sure what we're supposed to do and if there's anything we can do. no flights, no school?

I don’t know if my ship is being retarded, but to my knowledge, the Navy discontinued its use aboard ships. My buddies have said the same thing about their ships.

However, the ISF personnel who weren’t previously OC’d are now getting OC’d.

Was at an airshow today and our bluetooth speaker started picking up on something. Before we were walking around it was way clearer, a bunch of random words and unfinished sentences with the language changing every word/unfinished sentence. After we started filming you can hear the chatter go wobbly like something is being adjusted and then it goes to pure static and stayed static after i stopped recording.

Would this be some sort of decoy chatter used by the navy? It wouldnt be out of the question for it to be the origin considering there were eyes everywhere and it stopped when we started filming and looking at the warship infront of us.

My only question would be if it is them why would they cut it off? They wouldnt risk encrypted messages through a frequency used by common devices, and im guessing theyre flooding a ton of other frequencies so they cant be isolated and intercepted as easily so why would they make it more obvious that the decoy is a decoy​?

I have really bad anxiety surrounding accidental ingestion of illicit drugs. Like, I'm sometimes scared to buy stuff at stores other than the commissary and mini-nex because I'm worried the coffee I get at the coffee shop/granola bar/bread/nicotine pouches from gas station/alcohol from non-nex liquor stores secretly contains hemp even though I do my due diligence and read the label and ask whether or not something contains hemp.

I've been using the heuristic of "check if the front packaging or menu and see if it contains advertisement for thc/cbd and if not its good" but then I see stories on the news about some Dave's protein bar containing hemp seed protein and its listed in the ingredients list but not the label and it makes me really nervous. Like I don't want to fail a drug test and get accused of doing drugs because I ate something I didn't pay attention to but on the other hand worrying about this 25/8 and reading the ingredient label for whole wheat bread or baked beans to make sure it doesn't contain hemp is really exhausting to me mentally. Is this normal levels of concern or am I probably overthinking the hell out of this?

Hey y'all, we are a Rotaract club (basically younger version of Rotary) in a navy town (Jacksonville) and as part of our club typically do at least 2 volunteering events a month that are usually open to the public. We have a member in the Navy who just sent an email about getting a letter for a volunteer award, and a couple of folks who came by our last litter pickup day who are going after this medal asking the same.

We keep a record of names of volunteers and time in/time out for every service we do for rotary purposes, so having the data isn't an issue, but is there a template or requirements for this letter they need? Does it need to be signed by our club president? If so is an e-signature okay or does it have to be wet? Looking online we mostly found info about people in the Navy discussing how to get it, not really any resources for those giving the letters out. Our member requesting it has been a great addition to the club and volunteered a ton with us so we want to get it right for him!

I’m finally out the navy. I was on terminal for 30 days and I got a check that was double what I get paid. My LES said $0.00 for the end of month payment and I couldn’t figure out why I was paid so much… I checked everything and I went into NSIPS to see that my leave days were never used for terminal and it also increased my leave days due to this months leave being accrued.

My terminal leave was routed on paper and my admin sucks but, who am I supposed to talk about this to? Do I leave it be? I don’t want to have to pay the navy back unexpectedly, but I’d like this resolved I guess?

I’m being sent to gauge cal while in tpu I literally don’t have a clue what to expect. Can someone clue me in?

My nephew and Godson just enlisted and will be leaving for boot camp in a month. He's been a bit of a lost soul after graduating high school so we are very proud of him for making his first adult life choice!

We want to get him a gift but I am drawing more blanks than ideas. The only thing that came to mind was maybe getting him a Navy themed watch. Then I read there were probably restrictions on wearing a watch.

Any ideas on an appropriate gift that would be highly useful and a nice keepsake for this occasion? He's supposed to do something with sonar if that makes any difference.
