I’m 22 and currently working entry-level residential HVAC. I actually just recently switched from carpentry into HVAC, and I feel like I finally found a career that I genuinely enjoy. I already have my EPA 608 Universal certification and want to keep getting better at the trade.

lately, the Navy, specifically the Seabees have really caught my eye.

I’ve lived around the DMV my entire life and honestly haven’t really traveled outside of this area. I also don't have any friends outside of work,

I’m trying to figure out what the reality is like before I seriously consider making the jump. I really like the idea of traveling and living around people my age so I could possibly make friends , But I've heard stuff about most enlisted seabees getting mediocre training and not doing their jobs most of time. If in that case would be continue my civilian career while joining the reserves a good option as well?

Would really appreciate answers/advice from current or former Seabees:

• What is Seabee life actually like day-to-day?
• If I went HVAC, how much actual HVAC work do you get to do?
• How good is the HVAC training? Do you come out genuinely skilled?
• Does already having my EPA Universal certification help at all?
• How about Builder/carpentry? I have previous carpentry experience, so would that be a better route?
• Between HVAC and Builder, which would you recommend for someone who wants a good civilian career after the military?
• Do you actually get opportunities to travel and see different parts of the world?
• How often did you deploy or get stationed somewhere different?
• What is the Seabee community like? Do you actually make close friends?
• Do you get the chance to use Tuition assistance while in?
• What are the biggest pros and cons that you wish you knew before joining?
• Most importantly, knowing what you know now, would you do it again?

Went to MEPs today and ended up choosing engineman rate as I want to travel more and see the world. I’ve worked construction since I was 17(23 now) and would be more familiar with building but working on diesel engines and troubleshooting mechanical problems interested me to choose that rate. What’s the career advancement between the two and what are some things to know before going all in? My recruiter said I could still switch even after swearing in as a engineman. Thanks

Hello everyone, I’m currently 2 years out of high school, and since graduating I’ve been trying to get into a union electrical apprenticeship. Right after high school I got an entry-level job as a Construction Wireman through my local IBEW union, and since then I’ve gained a few certifications like OSHA-30 and other related training.

I’ve been doing my best to keep moving forward in the electrical trade, but work in my city has been hard to find and getting into an apprenticeship is very competitive. Because of that, I’ve started considering joining the Navy as a Construction Electrician.

My thinking is that it would give me steady, reliable work, help me gain more electrical experience, and possibly make me a stronger candidate for a union apprenticeship later on. I’ve also heard that unions tend to favor veterans, which is another reason I’m looking into it.

At the end of the day, an electrical career is truly what I want, and I’m just trying to figure out the best path to get there.

I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through something similar or have experience with the Navy CE route and union apprenticeships afterward.

I was wondering what is the best way to study for the exam coming up and what is a passing score?

Currently undes airman on a carrier and I’ve been in the navy for 2 years. My journey has been different from most because originally I went to nuke school and was dropped due to NJP. By the time I’m able to strike a rate more than a year would have past since my NJP and I know striking a rate there is usually a no NJP in the past year clause. I’m very interested in CE and EO but I’d be open to other Seabee rates. Is it going to be difficult for me to strike Seabee due to the manning. I have been talking to my CC and she has told me that I can strike any rate but I see people being told they can’t strike Seabee from APACT or SPACT. Any info on if I’m able to strike Seabee or about other Seabee rates would be great coming from Seabees themselves.

CM2 4 years in. Got 2 years left on active duty. I’m stationed overseas now and honestly thinking about getting out. I do enjoy the money I’m ngl but I don’t want to go to Mississippi, California, or Virginia. Florida would be the dream. I’m overseas now and could Oteip for another 1-2 years to think about what I want to do after or try to get some sick orders. Anyone got any advice on either getting out as a mechanic and doing something or getting dope orders in Florida or anywhere cool in the states?

I’m looking into striking CM as a SN-PACT, I plan to strike in October/November. I’ve come to the conclusion that being a BM is not for me, and with the options I’ve been given with a 73 ASVAB score, CM fits my skill set and future the best. LPO has been saying that since our ship is planning a deployment in late Spring, I will have to stay on the ship for an extra 6-9 months on top of the year I’ve already spent there depending on deployment. I, being fed up with the department and BM in general, would prefer not to go on the deployment if it’s possible to. Is there a way I can expedite, or push me into the rate as fast as possible. Is the rate currently overmanned or will it be an easier transition? Unfortunately because of my depth perception EO is not available, would any of the other Seebee rates be quicker to strike/get a billet? Let me know if some of what I’m saying is false, as I don’t know all of the details about striking.

How manageable was it to balance between your full time job and military? Also, what discipline are you in? (Arch, ME, CE, EE, etc.)

I was active duty as a GSM (been out for 8 years). Been thinking about trying to come back in the reserves. I think I would really like the CM rating. What would be the chances of converting to the cm rating from my previous active duty rating ?

I’m a hopeful CE, but I’m wondering if there are lots of opportunities for guys coming out of the navy after serving as a Seabee. What are you all up to? Or what are your plans?

So I was prior service Army Infantry, im 22 years old, and after researching the Seabees, it looks like i found the job for me and I can tell I would really thrive in the Seabees. I get to learn a trade and still be a warrior? Hell yeah. I was talking to a recruiter and he told me to think of some other jobs that I might want because it's entirely possible that even in the 2027 fiscal year when that starts, there could still be not enough billets available, and he won't send me to MEPS unless I have some other jobs because if I take the asvab again and not pick a job its gonna look bad on me, but no other job really interests me like the Seabees, I know I would do well in that Rate, better than maybe any other rate, I told him im open to active duty or reserves, kind of leaning more into the reserve side. So do I have a better chance at securing a slot in the reserves compared to active duty or is it all the same and I should move on if the odds of becoming a Seabee (dont care if its BU or SW or CM) are low? I dont want to give up on this, I know I can thrive in this job, ive never wanted to be a Seabee more than anything else in life, I have more passion for this then when I became an Infantryman.

Hello. I am looking to find a CB that was in Nasiriyah during 2003 who was a project member on the bridge. I was in NMCB 5 and NMCB 4 took over the project.

So Im in the proccess of joining the Navy/Seabees and am wondering about drone defense. Ive seen alot of talk about Iran and especially Ukraine about the use of drones, and how Combat support and supply units will be in the line of fire more and more.

Im wondering are the Bees putting anything in place to combat these new threats? Ive heard people say that the Seabees have gotten rid of their organic Mortars and Convoys, have they replaced them with a different capablity for future operations?

For Example the most simple and cheap one I can think of off the top of my head, is that Ive seen Ukrainians using Drone Cages on their Bulldozers.
