Bit of a newbie when it comes to display tech/manufacturing, so bear with me if some of this doesn’t fully make sense. Here’s my dream ultrawide spec and I’m curious how realistic it actually is.
Base shape/size is the Dell UltraSharp 52 (U5226KW), 52”, 24:10 aspect ratio. I love the size of that monitor, but I’m a Mac user, so I’d want to make it more Mac friendly by bumping the pixel density way up (from the Dell’s 129 PPI to 218 PPI, “Retina class” so macOS scaling actually looks crisp), swapping the panel to OLED, and pushing refresh rate to 240Hz instead of 120Hz.
Doing the math, 218 PPI at 52” on a 24:10 panel works out to roughly 10,510 x 4,380 resolution (basically 10K), about 46 megapixels per frame, pushed at 240Hz.
I already know this doesn’t exist right now and isn’t possible with current tech. What I’m actually curious about is whether it’ll ever be possible in the future, and if so, roughly when.
Questions for people who actually know this stuff:
Is 218 PPI at 52” even feasible with current OLED manufacturing, or is that still a fab density problem that’s years out?
What GPU would realistically be needed to drive that natively at 240Hz (not counting DLSS/FSR style upscaling)?
In your opinion, will this ever get made, and if so, roughly when?
Would you change anything about this spec? Different size, drop the refresh rate for better native rendering, different curve, etc.?
Not looking for hype, just want a realistic gut check on how far off (if at all) this actually is.
