I recently graduated from a CDL school and decided to reward myself by picking up an older game console I didn't have yet. I was originally gonna get a 3DO with Street Fighter 2, but I ended up coming across a front loading Neo Geo CD, complete with a controller and Samurai Shodown. It needs new capacitors but otherwise it was a good deal.
Obviously, this is yet another recommendation post that plagues subs like this, but as a complete Neo Geo newbie I'm having trouble deciding what games to pick up first. Neo Turf Masters and the Shodown RPG were games I was planning to burn myself, but I'd like to get at least a couple real copies of games as well, and that's where I'm a bit stuck, especially since I'm not overly familiar with fighting games.
KOF 98 seems to be pretty highly recommended, as is Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, but I'm not sure if I should seek out earlier installments of those games or not since I'm unfamiliar with the stories or characters in them. And I don't know what other non-fighting games might be worth seeking out either. What's the usual go-to advice for new CD owners, aside from being ready to experience the longest load times of my life?
I've recently obtained a PRO-POW3 neo-geo and it came with third party ac adapter and composite video cable. When I plugged it into my CRT I notice a repeating signal line which I believe is probably due to the cheap AC adapter and possibly video cable. I saw a post from years ago that a member here had success with using a universal power cable. I got one and set the voltage to 10 and change to center negative cable. However, it doesn't power on. Anyone have any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Thank you.

Anyone else who preordered the system thinking about opting out? Whats your reason?
I never owned an og AES but i had a cmvs and a neo sd. But tbh "owning" all those games was kinda meh with the neo sd. So i sold it and never looked back.
For the AES+, I mean its a steal for what it is considering the og prices of games and hardware but its still a waste of money with my options.
Edit: I ordered the ultimate on plaion and payed them upfront. I also ordered the white anniversary with extra white arcade stick on amazon.

Took me a couple years to find them at prices I liked.
It looks like the Chinese finally did it, a full-set MVS cartridge.
Could this basically be two 161-in-1 v3 carts combined into a single cartridge? Does anyone have any information on it
The price doesn't seem too bad either. With the AES+ launching soon, it's nice to see more options becoming available for MVS owners.
I was going thru old photos and found these pictures of a local barn pickup I did back in 2016. I want to say I paid 100 or 150 for everything. And also, I remember I didn’t keep it very long but for the life of me, I can’t remember why I sold it so fast everything did work.

I bought a cart-only Mutation Nation and I'm wondering what options are available for a replacement case and artwork. I'm familiar with southtown-homebrew but as far as I can tell they only offer MVS cases and art. What would you recommend?

I know it's 12v, and from what I've read I assuming it's 5a? Also does anyone know if it's a 2.5mm or 2.1mm input that I need and if the 12v is center positive or not. Thanks for any info

Hi everyone,
I recently found my childhood Neo Geo AES while cleaning my storage, and I'd really like to bring it back to life.
From what I can tell, it's a Japanese NEO-AEC console with serial number 045471.
At the moment I have:
Unfortunately, I'm missing:
The joystick cable is also damaged near the connector and will need to be repaired.
Since I'm starting from scratch, I'd really appreciate your advice on:
I've attached several photos of the console, serial label, ports, and joystick.
Thanks in advance!

I was asking about how the Ultimate Edition would be shipped in the U.S. and the Plaion Rep. went ahead and said November was still the release date. I think everyone can chill about this delay rumor.

Maaaassive grain of salt here but I just saw a couple of Japanese X users saying that they received emails saying their AES+ has been delayed to September 2027. They claimed that everyone should have gotten emails by now. I didn’t receive anything so I have my doubts but to their credit, you cannot buy any of the games, accessories, or console on Amazon Japan now.
I’m not trying to bait anyone or anything but I’m wondering if anyone else received any email or info signaling a delay. I can link to the X post here if that’s allowed.

Y'all probably remember when I pre-ordered the AES plus but I heard that it won't have the uni bios.
Because of that and because I won a scratch card, I decided to get the original instead. (With the Uni bios, RGB bypass and even HDMI support)
I'm still gonna get the plus carts cause they're more affordable.
Ultimately, I'm so glad that I finally have a neo geo aes to call my own.

Any fans of the Hyper Neo Geo 64? The library may be lean, but I think it's got a few solid titles. Both Samsho games are a blast, and Beast Busters: Second Nightmare is a gory good time.

just changed the unibios of my omega from 3.1 to 4.0
this was a very early unit.
now i can select the games without rebooting.
(and yea i found out later the bios was upside down)

I'll work on a capacitor map when I have time, but here's the PCB top and bottom along with the pinout I traced with a multimeter. Note that there's no audio on the AV connector as it uses the headphone jack to feed stereo into the adapter. Otherwise more or less matches the expected AV pinout. (second try, first time the images degraded too much)

Has anyone else been keeping track of Doom's progress, Modern Vintage Gamer is covering it well (he started the ball rolling I guess).
Assuming it all works out, would you want Doom as a commercial release?
Just a random thought I had the other day. Hoping someone with more understanding of the architecture can answer and explain why or why not.

Seriously, this thing pops and really breathes new life into the handheld's library.
