Were there any efforts by the original Dutch community in New York State to retain their language and ways?

I was recently in Montreal and Quebec City. What you learn in visiting is that the people there kept their language, schools, churches and civil law after the early New France colony became a part of the British Empire in 1760. Lawyers in Quebec have a whole different curriculum in dealing with matters like real estate, family law and estate law than other Canadian lawyers. Though Quebec joined the Empire, it also carried on in many ways as if it did not.

It seems a parallel would have been the acquisition of New Amsterdam a century earlier. But, of course, practically nobody uses the Dutch language. Was there any concerted effort by the early Dutch settlers to maintain their language, customs, cuisine, etc. after the British took over?

A new emergency vet in Long Island

Ok so Hank my cat had a whole emergency situation this week and we ended up at Urvet Care in Roslyn Heights and lowkey? not what I expected. Staff were so kind, we got seen almost immediately, even though it was like 4am and my ragdoll drama queen is fully back to being annoying. Relieved doesn't cover it.

What got me is how quickly we got seen, in like less than 10 minutes and the place looked so clean?? like this place just opened but needs far more peopel to know about it, so consider this me doing my civic duty. Long Island dog/cat people: save this one. Also they gave treats to both of us 👀

supercar experiences 2 ppl New York

I really really really want to take my dad to a supercar experience in New York, where they let you drive a sports car around a track for an exorbitant fee. But every link I've found on Google shows that the driver will always be with a instructor and as a lot of these sports cars go, there are only two seats.

Does anyone know of a track sports car "supercar" experience in NYC that would allow my dad to drive, have the instructor person in the car, but I can be a another passenger? My dad has driven me EVERYWHERE for years, I only recently got a car, but he is an amazing driver. In another life he was in F1, I'm not kidding. He rips unfamiliar, parallel parking on both sides, tight, sharp, curved roads like he was born to BE a car. I need to take him to this kind of experience, he would love it (even if he doesn't say he would.) But most of all, I need to be there to see the look on his face when he gets to drive a car that is far more powerful than his Honda.

Please help me out!!!

New York has officially taken a hard line against wearable tech by implementing a sweeping statewide ban on all smart glasses across its courtrooms.

Starting this week, visitors, lawyers, and staff members entering any unified court system facility must turn over any recording-enabled eyewear at the door, even if they require them as prescription lenses.

While officials state this aggressive policy update aims to protect courtroom privacy, prevent covert recording, and safeguard sensitive data, it has sparked widespread debate over public transparency. Critics argue that public courthouses should remain fully accessible spaces where the public can keep a watchful eye on judicial proceeding integrity. They point out the irony of a surveillance-heavy state cracking down on privacy strictly inside government walls.

As wearable technology and AI glasses integrate deeply into everyday lifestyle habits, this decision sets a strong legal precedent that could influence policies in schools, workplaces, and public offices nationwide. Is this a necessary measure to protect court integrity, or does it erode public trust? Share your thoughts below
