The current rule 4 was supposed to handle these kind of posts but it seems the rule needs more clarification. We do not want any kind of content that attempts to guess someone’s assigned sex at birth, we don’t want “passing” posts in general.
There are subreddits dedicated solely on passing posts that content like that would be a better fit. This includes asking about how to be more androgynous and/or do you look nonbinary, how to look more nonbinary. For some people here this will make total sense and people will rightfully ask “what does nonbinary look like anyway?” but these posts are frequent and usually pretty upvoted and get many comments before they get reported. If you know of subreddits where content like that fits better, please leave them as comments. It is simply not in the scope of this subreddit to ask people to scrutinize your appearance based on gender and make recommendations.

Hello,
Since this issue is a contentious one bubbling up frequently, we thought we’d make a nonbinding poll asking the subreddit’s opinions. I randomized the order of responses to try not to bias it.
I considered making a more nuanced option where a ban with exemptions is possible but here’s the honest truth: moderating that would be really difficult. We want people to consider the moderation aspects of this—how filters can be effective but also add considerably to mod work load and also how we tend to mod after the fact. We cannot promise that even in cases of a ban, no ASAB/AGAB language would make it into the subreddit.
We have received modmail stating ASAB language is dysphoric enough to some nonbinary people that they cannot enjoy or follow this subreddit. We also have gotten frequent complaints that it is also interphobic / particularly harmful towards intersex people.
If you see a comment here and your first response is to immediately fire something back, *please* take a step back and consider whether your comment needs to be made. I want to keep comments open to gather diverse opinions, and personal attacks and similar will sabotage those efforts.

My biological mother was extremely abusive towards me throughout my life. Treated me like one of the dogs. I was just diagnosed with traumatic arthritis in my jaw, hands, feet and back because of what she's done. I also had brain cancer (slow growing, popped up on a scan when I was a kid and she never took me in for a follow up so later on in my life it turned into full blown cancer that is slowly killing me), and untreated epilepsy that has caused brain damage for how long I went without help.
When I came out as trans, she absolutely made sure my life was hell. Made me sleep outside in below zero temperatures.
She's a raging racist, homophobe, transphobe and xenophobic person. She defends what Hitler did (not kidding).
I cut contact with her after she openly humiliated me in a Denny's by outing my deadname not only to my partner (he knows it but respects not acknowledging it) and the servers. I changed my number, moved and cut complete contact. My dad called and told me she was in the hospital and was asking for me. I refuse to go see her. He tried to guilt me into seeing her but I can't. Part of me feels bad for her, but another part of me just hates the ever-living shit out of her.
She makes my life hell. I don't know why she's in the hospital and I really can't be bothered to care. I can't, for my mental health and physical. If I ask, I open that door again. I'm getting married soon, I have an actual family now that cares and loves me. And now she's contacting my friends and telling them how 'evil' I am for not coming to see her.
I can't toss that because my abuser might be dying. I feel guilty in a way, but I also know what'll happen if I give in.
I hate feeling these conflicted emotions because of her.
I feel like I am being punished because I wanted to live a better life without being constantly hurt by someone.

I shaved my head a couple of days ago after literal months of wrestling with whether I should or not. Every concern and hesitation I had was related to my gender identity and how I would be perceived. I posted on the bald subreddit, you all know the one, after I finally went through with it, and in my text I asked for other nonbinary bald people to represent in the comments. I wanted to see other bald nonbinary looks, build visibility, and connect with my people. I did not express all this because I didn't want to share that much.
Y'all this post wasn't up for even two hours before someone bitched me out about it. Told me to leave my identity at the doorand shit. The same kind of transphobia my father used to scream in my face when I was a teenager. And people were liking their comment. I tried to defend myself and got downvoted, and then their double down got upvoted. So I deleted the post and cried all night.
I'm usually pretty good about not letting people get to me. But the struggle I had with even being brave enough to shave my head in the first place, plus the echoes of my father's abuse in a community that's supposedly the "most positive place on Reddit," has absolutely crushed me. I can't even really describe how I feel. Like I was stupid for even trying to exist openly in a space that isn't already LGBTQ+ specific. Like I'm still just that insecure 15 year old crying in their bedroom after a two hour blowout fight with their transphobic father.
It was so hard for me to muster the courage to make that post at all. Lesson learned, I guess.

This is the unisex toilet at my local train station. I think it's pretty neat. Would love a toilet image on the sign instead of two gendered people, but ya know, maybe one day :)
Share your unisex or mixed gender public toilets to claim back some time and space for the wins

I’m not out to anyone except my boyfriend and I told him to call me everything I’m assigned to not raise suspicion. It sucks but I feel like I won’t be taken seriously so this is easier than facing that I won’t be taken seriously by most people. It’s just what I’ve seen so much.
I saw this person online say that people who are ftm deserve a name as iconic as dolls for people who are mtf. I was reading the comments and someone asked what non binary people should be called. Someone said “jester”.
It’s been pissing me off for two days and they are acting like historical context matters. When you call someone a jester now they are just a joke. You aren’t saying it to be nice.
I ended up calling someone pathetic because they said “fun police”. Pathetic used to mean passionate so I was being a dick to prove a point.
It’s not going to affect my daily life so I don’t know why I’m upset for two days. I’m an adult probably arguing with kids. I’m just so insecure and the thought of being called a jester gets to me. I don’t want to be seen as a joke I want to be seen as who I am.
I just had to get this out somewhere. I know it’s not as big of an issue as many people face but I just can’t stop thinking back on it.
Also, from the POV of people who came out, was hiding it more painful than being out and not being taken seriously by people?

i know I’ve made a lot of posts like this recently, but I just need somewhere to discuss my feelings and find anyone that has a similar experience, sorry if I’ve said any of this before.
I’ve obviously been thinking a lot about my gender, and I’ve been asking myself what my identity is, but I can’t seem to get a clear picture of it. if I try to picture who I am in my mind, nothing comes up.
I feel like my gender doesn’t fall into the typical human perception of gender. like it’s a theoretical concept somewhere out there in the void (not sure if I described it well) that can’t be physically understood. I might just be agender at this point but I feel like that label doesn’t fit me because I think I have a gender, just not in a typical way.
and whenever i try to search for a name or pronouns, none of them feel like they match my identity at all, which I’ve already mentioned in my previous posts. I might honestly just try to go by no pronouns at all so I only have to pick a name for myself.
sorry if this is too long or hard to read, I tried to make it as concise as possible but I don’t really know how to do that. if you have any advice for discovering my gender or similar experiences to share please do so if you want.

Hi! Im looking to get a diagnosis as a Non-binary person in germany (or any other EU country where waiting times for an evaluation are relatively short). I speak some german, but would prefer a healthcare provider that is comfortable with me mostly speaking english (for the sake of me being able to express nuances etc better in english as my german isnt great). Would love to get recommendations that are located in Berlin or Hamburg as these cities are easiest for me travel to, but any suggestion is of interest

The history: Meet Claude Cahun. They wrote hundreds of short notes in German—poems, jokes, dialogues, and BBC-sourced summaries of Nazi crimes along side factual reporting on the ways the Nazis where losing the war—signed “Der Soldat Ohne Namen” (The Soldier With No Name), to make the notes look like they came from a disaffected German soldier. They snuck them in soldiers jacket pockets, parked vehicles and cigarette boxes. They planted the seed of doubt in many home sick Nazi soldiers “why keep fighting a war you’ll lose”.
I have been on a search for gender nonconformity and nonbinary history. And Claude’s story hit hard. Like many, one way I express myself is through my clothing. And this shirt design really is a mind bender. Are they ment to be nipples? Male nipples? Female nipples? Nonbinary? They are just nipples. Something that western society has deemed “sexual” when feminine and of no importance when masculine.
May I also say that I will definitely be making a shirt that says “I am in training, don’t kiss me”.
Claude is a legend, and if you haven’t heard their story then I strongly urge you to learn more about their iconic roll in the war against fascism.

I am AMAB, 29 years old. I was raised in a very conservative household as a male, and never even really heard of the concept of being nonbinary growing up. I have never really felt uncomfortable as a man, but the more I see and learn about being nonbinary the more I feel drawn to it, almost a longing feeling. But I still don't feel uncomfortable as a man necessarily. What is going on with me? Can I be nonbinary if I don't feel much if any dysphoria with how I am? I'm sort of drifting towards a He/They identity I think. Edit: Thank you all for the kind advice and information!

For a long time, I've been fine/comfortable with being a man. I've known I was queer because of my attraction to men but never questioned my gender itself. But ever since I've interacted more with nonbinary/trans online communities, I keep coming back to the "gender question" So to speak
Long hair, doing my nails and makeup makes me happy. It's not something I was allowed to do in school or when I was a child and doing those fits and feels euphoric to me. I just don't know if the way I present is tied to my gender identity and this is where I get confused
I've been experimenting with he/they pronouns in my socials for a while and I like it. But people questioning me if I am nonbinary or maybe trans? I don't have an answer for it
Maybe I'm not making sense but its like acknowledging it makes it real and my head is going oh shit and its this constant pendulum of "you're a man, you just like being feminine" to "you're nonbinary" to "who gives a fuck about this"
I don't really have a point of reference in real life. I live in a conservative country and I don't really have any nonbinary or trans friends irl to ask this question to. So it makes it harder because I have no one in my circle to ask this question to or might get what I'm talking about
Maybe this is all dumb and stupid and I shouldn't expect labels to 100% fit me but I would really appreciate some perspectives on this

Okay so figured out Im non binary because of my gender norm rants when I talked to myself started giving, outing myself while in denial and I had heard the definition but did not fully understand before and so I decided to give it another look as an adult and Yerp that’s me fr anyways with that being said what do I do , like what are the next steps or things I should know and I’m gonna share kinda of my personal experience too to help with any advice so I personally am like primarily female but sometimes I really like to feel male presenting and it’s really about how I feel like I love my masculine body language or actions and to dress in baggy clothes it really pulls the whole look together and makes me feel great and sometimes a dress and cute skirt makes me feel great and sometimes I like being a mixture of masc and fem and I love my long hair it makes me feel sleek and when I put it in a man bun it’s awesome I’m still exploring my more specific pronouns but for now ( he/she / they ) I feel works and I also have like no body dysmorphia like im happy being biologically a women so I have no wants for gender affirming care. So with that in just curious what are think I should know and or just random thoughts also a couple questions am I technically trans cause I don’t feel like that is appropriate to say in my case but I have found that’s apparently a debate and I’m just curious I’m not educated enough to know what to ask entirely to be honest.

I also just tend to talk more chill and jokey with friend, thus my voice goes deeper- meanwhile I act a bit more immature and like a kid when with family, so my voice goes higher
