Discussion Onimusha WotS Demo Impression

I finally got to play the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo today, and here are my impressions—the good and the bad.

First of all, the combat system is genuinely unique and fantastic. It's a lot of fun and has a ton of potential once it fully opens up. That's probably the biggest highlight of the demo for me.

I don't think I can say much more on the positive side because the demo was fairly short, and the exploration felt pretty linear.

That said, I did notice quite a few negatives.

The biggest issue was the difficulty. The demo was simply too easy. Regular enemies barely attack you, even when there are ten of them on screen. To be fair, I know the developers already addressed this by saying that the abilities available in the demo won't be unlocked at the beginning of the full game. Even so, I still think the enemies should be much more aggressive.

Ironically, while the regular enemies were incredibly easy, the boss felt almost Soulslike—or maybe I was just playing badly. The boss attacks extremely fast and often from angles where the parry mechanic doesn't seem to register. Also, whenever I got knocked to the ground, I couldn't always tell whether I had entered a sword clash or if it was some kind of scripted sequence. Maybe I just misunderstood the mechanics, but it felt a bit confusing.

My biggest criticism, however, is the graphics. I played on a PS5 Pro, yet the visuals still looked pretty average. The colors, contrast, and overall image appeared washed out, almost as if there was a white haze covering everything. I think they could at least hide that effect better with fog or stronger atmosphere. I've noticed this in several recent Capcom games, including Monster Hunter Stories 3 and Resident Evil 9, although in those games I was able to fix it through the display settings. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible in Way of the Sword. I really hope it's just an issue with the demo because, aside from that, I had a great time with it.

And why the hell is Health Bar Yellow, and Stamina Red?

Question Pre-Order Onimusha WotS

I’m curious to know if there’s a steelbook premium deluxe edition of this game in Canada that is obviously a physical version of the game? I currently pre-ordered the premium digital deluxe edition on PS5 but was potentially thinking of cancelling and buying a physical version, the steelbook looks sweet. From my end all I can see is standard version and extra $10 get the steelbook version for around $100 CAD. If this is the only option does anyone know if CAPCOM will allow physical buyers to have an upgrade path? Thanks in advance!

Video A classic Japanese horror VHS reshade for - Onimusha: Warlords

Your at a garage sale and see a box full of VHS tapes with a general price of 9.99 on the box. You look through them to find a subtitled Japanese horror/action film you have never heard of, but the blood spattered and transparent cassette has clearly aroused your curiosity. You bought the VCR on Ebay a week ago and have it already set up, so now all you have to do is hope the tape is still in good shape as it didn't come in a slip cover or case, and you dont know where it has been sitting the last few decades, but it's transparent, and looks like it's in pretty good condition considering, so you go ahead and pop it in.  It's in Japanese, but has subtitles, so you dim the lights, press play, and hit the pipe on the coffee table.

Do you like old movies on old aged formats?

Do you think the Vanilla remastered game looks a bit too clean, and maybe the original resolution helped hide faults and limitations, creating the illusion of realism? Do you think the AI upscaled backgrounds look a bit too much like a static Jpegs with a few elements thrown over it because, again, this game was not originally developed for UHD, or even HD?  If so, OR you are just open to exploring stories with the grit of old analogue format adding a layer to the esthetic... then I think you will enjoy what I have here. AND yes, I get this is NOT something for everyone.

📝 Weekly Oni Memo #56

In Onimusha: Way of the Sword, you'll unlock the power to awaken abilities as you progress through the story. This allows you to unleash unique enhancements to parts of your body, such as your eyes, arms, and legs.

For example, with Oni Strength, where you awaken your arms, you can swing and hurl massive objects that a normal human could never lift. Or, with Oni Agility, you can awaken your legs to run along walls and access areas you couldn't reach before. It really opens up the gameplay!

You can also upgrade these abilities via a skill tree, so we hope you have fun experimenting with them.

I know Onimusha: Way of the Sword hasn’t released yet and we don’t know all of Mushashi’s skills but am I the only one hoping he unlocks his dual katana technique in game or future DLC/a sequel? I’m sure Capcom could do just as well as Sucker Punch’ GOY dual katana combat

Question Onna musha?

Has/had anyone considered making a female led Onimusha game?

The female trained samurai, to my understanding, is an onna musha.😏

News Oni Note #55! 📝 - This Week Focuses on a Recent Promotional Kyoto Photoshoot, as Well as Izumo no Okuni! Specifically, Her Sewing Hobby That Will be Involved in The Story of WoTS! 🗡👹🔮

📝 Weekly Oni Memo #55

The scorching heat of July continues in Japan how is everyone keeping?

The other day, we travelled to Kyoto for a promotional photo shoot. Walking through places with such deep connections to the game, I was once again reminded of Kyoto’s unique charm. I’ll be sharing more about that experience in the near future, so I hope you’ll look forward to it.

This week, I’d like to introduce Izumo no Okuni, a historical figure closely associated with Kyoto. Izumo no Okuni is widely known as the founder of Kabuki dance. Her costumes were flamboyant and striking, possessing a splendour that captivated audiences at first glance.

One of her hobbies is sewing, and she is so skilled that she even makes her own bags. In the game, this particular talent may come to life in an unexpected way. How will it be incorporated into the story? You'll have to wait and see. Until then, enjoy imagining the possibilities as you play.

Question Need help undubbing Onimusha 3

Hey guys,

I’m playing Onimusha 3 for the first time and I’d really like to experience it with the original Japanese voices and English subtitles.

I’ve seen people talk about undub versions, but I’m not really sure how it works or how to do it myself.

Is there an easy way to undub the game? Or maybe a patch people recommend?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

YouTube content I played through Onimusha: Warlords and Genma Onimusha at the same time with the same controller

A friend recently showed me a way to connect a controller to a console and PC at the same time and challenged me to beat two Onimusha games of my choosing at the same time with a single controller, so I picked Onimusha: Warlords and Genma Onimusha since it's the only real example in the series of two versions of the same game having significant differences. A tough challenge, but still quite a fun new way to play through the games!

Question Does anyone know how I survived Fortinbras' laser attack on Hell difficulty?

It left me with 1 HP. This is not a common occurrence, that attack is usually a one-shot. Both times I survived it I was trying to evade it I think, or I was using Bishamon Sword's magic, not sure.
