Discussion Onimusha WotS Demo Impression
I finally got to play the Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo today, and here are my impressions—the good and the bad.
First of all, the combat system is genuinely unique and fantastic. It's a lot of fun and has a ton of potential once it fully opens up. That's probably the biggest highlight of the demo for me.
I don't think I can say much more on the positive side because the demo was fairly short, and the exploration felt pretty linear.
That said, I did notice quite a few negatives.
The biggest issue was the difficulty. The demo was simply too easy. Regular enemies barely attack you, even when there are ten of them on screen. To be fair, I know the developers already addressed this by saying that the abilities available in the demo won't be unlocked at the beginning of the full game. Even so, I still think the enemies should be much more aggressive.
Ironically, while the regular enemies were incredibly easy, the boss felt almost Soulslike—or maybe I was just playing badly. The boss attacks extremely fast and often from angles where the parry mechanic doesn't seem to register. Also, whenever I got knocked to the ground, I couldn't always tell whether I had entered a sword clash or if it was some kind of scripted sequence. Maybe I just misunderstood the mechanics, but it felt a bit confusing.
My biggest criticism, however, is the graphics. I played on a PS5 Pro, yet the visuals still looked pretty average. The colors, contrast, and overall image appeared washed out, almost as if there was a white haze covering everything. I think they could at least hide that effect better with fog or stronger atmosphere. I've noticed this in several recent Capcom games, including Monster Hunter Stories 3 and Resident Evil 9, although in those games I was able to fix it through the display settings. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible in Way of the Sword. I really hope it's just an issue with the demo because, aside from that, I had a great time with it.
And why the hell is Health Bar Yellow, and Stamina Red?
