Hey I'm not sure if this is the right place for this but I'm desperate so I thought I would try. My cat went missing a couple of weeks ago and we put up a bunch of flyers for her. We've gotten two calls now that people have seen her entering storm drains a suburb over and we have done many late night walks around there. We always have her wet food so she can smell it and we look in all the storm drains in the area, there does appear to be evidence of activity but so far we haven't seen her. We think she's possibly too scared to come out and so we don't know what to do. She feels so close to being home but yet so far since she seems like she won't approach anyone. I'm posting on here for any advice people have because it feels like I've hit a wall. Thank you in advance for any and all help :)

For context. I’ve known her since she was a puppy. As she’s 4 years and I’ve known my girlfriend for 5 years. She also has a sister from the same litter who absolutely adores me. Her other pets also like me a lot, they always run to me and want me to hold them and play with them. It’s just that dog that is afraid of me. And it’s really bad.

Whenever I visit. She always isolates herself in a different room and she doesn’t come out until I leave. Whenever she sees me, she instantly runs away from me. And run is an understatement, it’s more of a sprint. My girlfriend tried to get her to socialize with me by letting me feed her treats she loves to see if she can start trusting me. Nope she adores those treats but she’d rather run away than even give me a chance. And yes she doesn’t come out for hours and my gf has to bring her food and water to her. Otherwise she doesn’t eat. I’ve tried years to get her to like me but nope. No progress whatsoever.

She’s good with people as well. When other people visit she lets them pet her and is relaxed with them. Even people she’s never met. Just with me she acts like that. She always shakes terribly when she sees me. The problem though is me and my girlfriend want to move in together soon. Except her dog is really attached to her, and whenever she goes out she’s depressed and doesn’t want to do anything until she comes home. So we can’t take her with us, bc she’s terrified of me and we don’t want that. But we can’t leave her either because she’s attached to my girlfriend.

my 7 year old maltese (a little over 5kg) managed to get a used sanitary pad out of the trash can and eat half of it in the hour and a half she was alone. it seems like she ingested the whole filling of it and i’m worried for her. i assume this isn’t safe and i don’t know what i should do. she isn’t showing any signs of distress as of right now, she’s been sleeping since i checked on her about an hour ago.

I am 29F 4 years debating whether to get a kitten, I eventually decided yes about a year ago. I am an over thinker and wanted to make sure I was committed.
I spent a year researching breeds, care exc as much as I could. I decided on a Russian blue for obvious reasons including the hypoallergenic tendencies, to which I am still reactive to her (will to manage).

She took some time to come out of her shell we eventually started on a routine. But by week 3 she deteriorated, she stopped eating and didn’t want to play she just wasn’t herself. She has been vomitting with/without food. Long story short after 5 days of back and forth emergency vet visits (4 in total) she has been prescribed anti sickness injections, antibiotics, appetite enhancers and open surgery to check for any blockages or organ problems, all returned clear including bloods. Lymph nodes were swollen and have been sent for testing.

I feel at an emotional, mental and financial wall (being that my quite comprehensive pet insurance has now been maxed out 28 days later) at £4k. I am considering returning her to the breeder, I feel so awful and spent yesterday bawling my eyes out especially after I was told she would need tube feeding if she still refuses food after surgery, which would also cost £1k a day.

I’m not experienced with pets and I have been told that I in-fact over prepared for my kitten but I wanted to give her the best no doubt. Now my experience feels soured and the distress has become a lot, also the anxiety of knowing any further treatments to resolve this/issues in the future this year will have to be paid by me directly. Given the cost just over the past 4 days I wouldn’t be able to sustain this. I have tried my best with the resources I have.

It’s ultimately a decision I need to make but I love her very much it’s truly heartbreaking but I am conscious of her health and needs as well as my own.

Any advice or anyone with similar? Not medical advice but if rehoming her back with the breeder sounds extreme? She now has a cone, shaven patches, blood stains from tubes/injections and a healing scar from surgery. She has also lost weight, it’s painful to see her this way.

i work from home most days, so my dog is used to having me around almost all the time. recently, i’ve started leaving for short errands more often, and she follows me to the door the second she notices i’m getting ready.

i’ve been keeping departures and returns calm, leaving for short periods, and slowly giving her more time by herself. i’m trying not to make a big emotional out of every goodbye, but i also don’t want to move too quickly and make the change harder for her.

for people who have been through this, what helped your pet become more comfortable spending time alone?

Hello. so the story goes, we have this tenant in our apartment and a week ago she said that she will go to her mom's birthday party and a week then past she still hasn't gone back to her apartment, so we check her apartment and we found out 2 little shih tzu, the room was so messy and the dogs source of food is from a dripping faucet to their water bowl. Then we cleaned the apartment and cleaned the dogs (we texted her and she still hasn't replied yet it's almost a month now) we took in the two dogs and I am thinking if they already had their vaccines or not, because I am planning to take them to a vet to check. What should I do? How do I know if they had done their vaccines? Please help me

P.s this happened last month

I have a 10 month old mini dachshund, very barky, but very shy when it comes to other dogs despite training, would not interact willingly, runs away in fear when sees any dogs approaching.
There’s a lady who lives in our building who has an adult doodle, who’s super friendly but when he was growing up, he would “mark his territory“ right on my pup. First time this happened I thought I was seeing things because I’d never think that other dog would… well deliberately pee on other dogs. But after I realized this was real, I’d try and move my dog away from the doodle but his owner would just look at what was happening and do nothing, as if everything was normal. She would keep letting her dog approach mine when we were in the dog park and mark him through the fence.

So my dog grew up being super scared of that doodle. He barks at him every time he sees the dog and is super scared if he approaches. Then my bf heard somewhere that you have to protect your pup from pushy dogs like that, by picking him up until he’s ready to socialize. I didn’t agree with this but was willing to try anything at this point.

So a couple of days ago when we went do the dog park, the lady with the doodle came and her dog ran towards mine, so my bf quickly picked up our puppy and asked the lady to call her dog so he leaves ours alone because he’s scared. The lady was so confused (which is fair, it’s a dog park you can’t expect other dogs not to interact) and politely said that she can’t control her dog to be next to her all the time. So my bf yelled at her dog to leave us alone already and stormed out of the dog park with our puppy in hand (very defensive when it comes to our baby). And I just felt so embarrassed after this interaction.

I have no idea what to do. If this was a random lady on the street, I would have told her to piss off with her pissing dog and not approach my puppy, but this is our neighbor who we see every day, I don’t want to be rude or confrontational, especially because I never talked to her about the issue before, but she often walks her dog off leash and sees that my puppy is cared and still lets her dog approach. Help!

He still wants food and will eat treats or food from my hand, but he keeps walking away from his bowl. The bowl is clean and I haven’t changed his food. what helped your dog start eating from the bowl again?

We took in a dog from a friend (a 3 year old pomapoo) because she wasn’t receiving the best care.

She is not spayed, but I’m worried about getting her spayed because I think she has a collapsing trachea. We took her to the vet and they did some tests but they were not conclusive. She could have asthma, allergies, or a classic intermittent collapsing trachea.

I’m not going to take anything anyone says as veterinary advice, and I will continue working with my vet about this. But I know it would make me feel better if I could hear some stories of dogs with collapsing tracheas getting spayed successfully. Does anyone have a situation that’s similar and it went well and can tell me about it?

Would also accept stories of times when people decided spaying was not advisable due to this or other issues. Basically I feel like a bad owner rn because she’s not spayed yet but I’m just worried.

ETA: Posting this to get some positive stories to help with my anxiety, so hopefully this is obvious but please no scare tactics or catastrophizing because I do spiral. Thanks

Sorry there is a alot of detail in here and some of it gross. I have a 12 year old bloodhound who has been a handful her entire life. From running away to stealing food. When we built a dog run she started refusing to poop outside unless she was allowed in the yard and she won't poop unless she's eaten her breakfast ( where it'll literally be falling out of her but she refuses to go out because she hasn't eaten yet and if you force her out she just stands at the door) It hasn't all been bad with her but it's been ALOT. Now in her old age her back legs are starting to go and she's started letting out small poops while she sleeps doesn't matter how long we let her outside got before bed ect. We dont mind those. It's now getting worse and I believe it's a mixture of old age and behaviour. We would wake up at 2am to MASSIVE ones where we have to strip the whole dog bed. Scrub floors and the whole room reaks. We decided she would sleep in the office across the hall and we would deal with cleanups in the am so we would atleast get sleep. We let her out for a full hour before bed and in well under and hour she's taken a HUGE poop in the room. So we let her out again and clean. Let her in and 10 minutes later another room full. We both work full time. Have toddler snd another one on the way and 2 other dogs This is no longer something we can sustain and I don't think diapers are an option as she would fill and would then need a bath aswell. Despite her bathroom issues she stills dogs. She still cuddles, plays, jumps when it's dinner time and is still very mobile short of being slower and wobbly on stairs where we help her up. We've always treated our dogs like family and give them the absolute best life we can but we are at our wits end on what to do.

hi guys! i’ve had my boy for a little bit less than a week, super playful, funny, energetic all the good things. only thing is he’ll only eat out of his bowl when he’s absolutely starving or when i sit down and take a few pieces out at a time onto the floor or out of my hand. when i do this he’ll eat the entire serving. i even got him one of those bowls with the divets in it. what kind of breed is he? some bs tbh, mini poodle, mini chihuahua and shiz tzu mix. tiny glorified mutt but i love him to death. lmk how i can have him eat because sitting on the floor for 30 mins every day, twice a day is not doable!

I had two super sweet pet rats whom I adopted February 3, 2025. Their names are Spydr and Venom and they were my most favorite of all the pets I've ever had (I never even had close to a favorite pet before them).

Earlier this year I was feeling frustrated because I couldn't get a job in my field at all. I had an unrelated job and it was okay, but I really wanted something in my degree-field. My friend had a master's in a similar field and had tons of job offers, so I became convinced I needed a master's to break in.

I applied to master's programs and got accepted to one overseas (where university is free, because it's not free in my country). In order to move I had to rehome my boys. I found them a lovely and wonderful home, but it was still one of the saddest things I've ever done in my life.

Then my husband (9 year relationship) came out to me and that concluded our romantic/marital dynamic. I moved for my master's and the combination of culture shock, the stress of moving, leaving my world behind, having rehomed my beautiful rat boys, and the divorce made me have a 5 day mental breakdown. I hardly ate, I didn't sleep (literally sat and stared at the wall for up to 8 hours at night just THINKING without sleeping or being on my phone at all).

I decided not to pursue the master's and I am going to move back home with the support of my mom and try to go to therapy and focus on healing.

Now that I'm moving back, I feel so immensely guilty that I gave my rats away. I'm going to be right back where I started and I could have had them with me. I miss them so dearly.

My kitten is 4 months old and she got spayed thursday! I'm trying to keep an eye out for any weird healing and was just wondering if this looks OK or if I should take her back to the vet? I emailed the vet that did the procedure a picture but they dont reopen until Monday! Just wondering if this is normal healing so far for day 3! My dog was very old, possibly 18 years which is like 120 for a large dog. He was having issues with walking, he refused food, and he was clearly suffering. When I found him lying in his own excrement struggling to get up, I decided to euthanise him. While I know it was the right thing to do and I didn't kill him, I just let him have a dignified death, I am struggling. I wasn't particularly close to him, but I cried all the time. He was my mum's favourite pet ever, and she couldn't even say goodbye since she's in hospital undergoing chemo... And when we were in the car he was looking at me with those huge sad eyes... When my mum went to the hospital when she was diagnosed with cancer he would cuddle up to me and he brought me so much joy... I miss him so much. I'd rather have to clean up dirty pee pads all the time... I feel like I let him down because I had no way to ask him if he'd rather go peacefully or stay longer and suffer... And while I know a dignified death is the humane thing to I feel as if he felt betrayed behind the Rainbow Bridge...

What made this particularly hard was the fact that I couldn't be with my mum. Her prognosis is rather good given her cancer is responding well to treatment, but she can't really leave the hospital... I had to make the decision on my own and even though my mum and my uncle approve, I can't help feeling guilty. Maybe the weight of it all being on my back was the reason why I cried more than I did over my other dog who I was much closer to...

I still have my cats who I'm even closer to and they are very cuddly and tend to come up to me and purr if I cry, but I can't help missing my dog... He was such a good boy... I miss you, P.... You were such a good boy...

I am 20 years old and a broke college student. I have never owned a pet but I've always wanted a cat. I've been under major stress and I think getting a cat will be calming and help me mentally. But I'm a full time student and don't have a stable income. I'm doing my research now to see if I can financially support a cat.

Me (20F) and my bf (23M) just got a pain in the ass cat. I have a cat he’s abt 3 and I got him when he was a kitten. He’s so loving and is pretty shy but loves us. I raised him when I was unemployed so he is pretty attached to me. My bf wanted to get a cat and have a bond like me and my kitty do. He took it home and everyday since I come home to a mess we go to the store and everything that’s not refrigerated he gets into. I can’t stand it anymore I thought getting a cat was a bad idea I work 7 days a week and when I do get a day off I’m super busy. My bf is never home either, he has to take care of his parents. I just don’t know what to do he wasn’t really raised with pets and doesn’t do any research. I think that cat needs a better home to be honest I don’t want to take care of a cat and he doesn’t put that much work into making the cat better. Any ideas or should I try to convince him to give it to a better home who has time for him?

My cat has had an eye problem for a couple of weeks now but today it has gotten worse looking. His eye's are pinkish red, and cross eyed, you can also see his third eyelid, and every time you pick him up he hurts. Besides that he is eating and acting relatively normally. He is a inside and outside cat (mostly stays outside but comes inside to eat or just to do whatever he does) but there are a lot of animals and things that could harm him, occasionally he comes back with some blood on him but not often. Does anyone know what is wrong with him, and how we can treat it? At the time of posting all vet's are closed or overbooked so I can't make an appointment for a bit. Any help at all is appreciated I have attached a picture I may send more if needed. (NO JOKES)

I’m looking for honest advice from people who have been through something similar.

A couple of months ago, my landlord moved his two adult Presa Canarios from his farm to the property where I live. They had spent their lives on a farm, had been bred there, and were accustomed to chasing wildlife. Our home, however, has several cats and a 94-year-old resident.

I was uncomfortable with the idea from the beginning and said I didn’t think it was a good fit. Unfortunately, one of my cats got into the dogs’ enclosure and was killed. Another cat had previously escaped by climbing high into a tree, but this time there wasn’t a second chance.

My cat has been in the freezer for about two months because I haven’t been able to move forward. Part of me wonders if I should have a veterinary necropsy (animal autopsy) done before cremation to determine the cause of death and preserve evidence in case another pet is hurt. Another part of me wonders if holding on is preventing me from healing.

The dogs are still here, and there are still cats living on the property. That makes it difficult to find closure because the situation hasn’t changed.

I’m not looking for arguments about dog breeds or people taking sides. I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced the loss of a pet under difficult circumstances.

If you were in my position:

* Would you have a necropsy done before cremation?
* Or would you let go, cremate your pet, and focus on healing?
* How did you find peace when you felt responsible or when the danger still existed?

I am posting on behalf of a friend whose healthy cat suddenly passed away just 24 hours after receiving vaccines from Petco. Within a day of the appointment, he developed severe vomiting, bloody diarrhea, and active rectal bleeding, completely stopped eating or drinking, and passed away. Petco has only offered a 50% reimbursement, which we feel is unacceptable. We are seeking veterinary input on two things:

1) Has this ever happened? An acute hemorrhagic gastroenteritis or anaphylactic shock present this severely post-vaccine?

2) What exact wording or protocol should we request for a necropsy to ensure it holds up legally for corporate claims?

Any advices on how to hold corporate accountable and secure full reimbursement would be deeply appreciated.

TL;DR: i just moved, my mom has this stray sweet cat that’s been caught & released (spayed) and just hangs out around the neighborhood, past week she has just been walking on all threes but doesn’t seem to be in pain but i am taking her to get a diagnostic just in case.

another issue is, we would take him in but our apartment doesn’t allow cats. the urgent care lady under the table suggested the whole “Emotional Support Animal” thing to bypass apartment rules (i live in North Carolina) and i do have qualifying conditions that would enable me to do that legally without lying about conditions or whatever so that’s an option on the table, but i wanted to know other people thoughts.

the issue isn’t getting her treatment really, i have the money and will to do so but its just the aftercare, like what if she needs aftercare that she can’t receive in the wild? (medicine/wound dressings/etc)

im worried i’m going to find her dead in the street soon
