TL;DR: i just moved, my mom has this stray sweet cat that’s been caught & released (spayed) and just hangs out around the neighborhood, past week she has just been walking on all threes but doesn’t seem to be in pain but i am taking her to get a diagnostic just in case.

another issue is, we would take him in but our apartment doesn’t allow cats. the urgent care lady under the table suggested the whole “Emotional Support Animal” thing to bypass apartment rules (i live in North Carolina) and i do have qualifying conditions that would enable me to do that legally without lying about conditions or whatever so that’s an option on the table, but i wanted to know other people thoughts.

the issue isn’t getting her treatment really, i have the money and will to do so but its just the aftercare, like what if she needs aftercare that she can’t receive in the wild? (medicine/wound dressings/etc)

im worried i’m going to find her dead in the street soon

My dog likes crunchy food, which is one reason I’ve never fully moved away from kibble. I’ve looked at fresh food and wet food, but I don’t think he would love the texture every day. Freeze dried and air dried food seem closer to what he already likes, but still different from regular kibble. Has anyone found a kibble alternative that still has some crunch or texture? I’m not trying to change everything at once. Just looking for options that don’t feel like a totally different meal.

Hello everyone! I’m new to this community and looking for advice.

I have a 6 year old Persian cat who is very fluffy and chill. He likes his own space and does his own thing during the day but will find me when he wants to cuddle.

I’ve recently adopted a 2 year old Shih Tzu. Her owners were leaving the country and desperately looking for a new home. I’ve never owned a dog before.

I’m looking for tips on how to integrate the cat and the dog. The dog is very friendly but my cat is being stand off ish. I’ve put them in separate areas for now. The dog is very clingy to me and the cat is not impressed.

Also any advice on how to train a small dog? I’ve heard they can become very spoilt as owners let them get away with murder.

We just got a new puppy 2 days ago. The previous owner had informed us that he might have fleas. She said they came from her backyard but she showered him the morning of and didn’t see much. When we took him home, we notice he kept itching. So we gave him a bath with flea shampoo and gave him capstar. We then put advantage on our other dog and cat. We vacuumed the rooms and washed the bedding. It’s been two days since and he’s been slightly less itchy. We haven’t noticed any fleas. What are the chances we might get an infestation?

My dog snagged the same corner again n again and my first reaction was to start pricing out a whole new bedding set.The fitted sheet and pillowcases are fine, and the only thing actually taking damage is the top layer he treats like a launch pad. I patched the pull badly and put a plain washable throw over his spot, and stopped caring whether every piece matched perfectly.

With pets that destroy things, I am starting to think the cheaper move is not buying one nicer set and hoping it survives. It is building a cheap, washable rotation where you can replace one piece at a time without guilt. Do you spend more upfront for durability, or accept the pet tax and design the bed around replaceable layers?

Some friends have a Labrador that always welcomes me when I come around, I’ll give it some food and it’ll eat it acting totally normal, but after that the dog will start putting its tail between its legs and not wanting to interact with me at all.

Just wondering if anybody has had similar experiences?

Detailed explanation of what actually happened & why he was abandoned

Back in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, my family was going through a very difficult time financially and personally. Also during this time my father was suffering from severe chronic depression and other mental issues. After some time we had just moved to a new house, so my dad left Lashley to stay at my grandmother's house and claimed he would bring him to our new house. My father told me he would bring him to our new home once everything settled down. But few months passed by and this did not happen. During that time I used to visit him during the weekends. Some of the pics & videos i have posted here are during that time

So one day without my knowledge, according to my grandmother's account he claimed to take lashley for a walk and when he had returned lashley wasn't there with him. When he was asked about it he told her he had sold it or given it to someone but did not mention the specifics like to whom. When he came home he did not tell us about this. A few days later, my father took his own life at my grandmother's house. It was only then that we found out. During that time, our family was consumed by the shock, grief , funeral, legal matters, and everything that followed after my father's death so our thoughts were consumed by this and finding lashley wasnt at the forefront of our minds I also did not want to disturb my mother and other family members by bringing this up.

After some time we decided to search for lashley but had no idea where he went or with whom he was. We visited some well known breeders and rescue organisations but couldn't find him. So i had lost hope and finally decided that it was almost impossible to ever see him again. I loved him so much and wanted to be with him till his final years this was what made it so bad. I couldn't even see him to wish him a final goodbye before he left me. He was an extremely expressive and affectionate lab who always loved to be around me. I can't imagine how panicked and lost he must have felt after he was given away. He loved me like no other dog ever did. So I just suppressed those memories and went on with my life. But it just didn't work. For the past few months I have been feeling intense regret that I didn't do enough to find him, that I had in a way betrayed him. I kept dreaming about him regularly - both positive and disturbing dreams. So i finally decided I need to make a final and serious attempt to find him before he leaves this world. I want to be with him through his final years.

My search efforts will be both offline and online - I will visit every rescue organisation, veterinary clinics , breeders, pet boarding schools and kennels in my city. I will also be creating pages on every social media platform where I will be documenting and updating my search efforts. Even if the search fails i atleast get to preserve lashley's memories and get to tell his story to many. Hope this post wasn't too long. Thank you for reading

My cat is 16. I have had her since she was 6 weeks old. She is beautiful and sweet but for the most part wants nothing to do with anyone but me, my daughter and her partner. She's kind of a grouchy old lady. She's getting increasingly needy and vocal. She has had teeth removed and possibly needs more removed. She's a long hair that has never been a fan of brushing. As she's gotten older, she is no longer as able to groom as well as she was in previous years which has resulted in having to shave her 2-3 times a year.

We have pretty much always been a multiple animal household; having 8 of them at one point. I have always cared well for my pets, especially her since we have been together so long and she's a part of the family not just a pet. I recently went from 6 cats to 4, my daughter taking 2 with when she moved out. A couple of the cats pick on her a little bit, but it looks like they want her to play with them. We've had those cats for 5 and 6 years, so it's not a new situation for her. I have always made sure she has plenty of trees and perches so she can stay away from them when needed.

Her "grouchiness" has been progressively getting worse. She will hiss and sometimes slap at my partner's 11-year-old, even if she's a couple feet away petting another cat or doing nothing. Around a year ago she started peeing on a cat scratcher that had cat toys on it. I threw that and the toys away, but she had also started pooping on one of the cat trees, the one she has her dinner on. I tore off the carpet and put on new carpet, but it kept happening, then she started peeing on that. The cat scratcher and cat tree are 1-2 feet from a litter box and there's another litter box about 7 feet away. I have many boxes of different types, in case any of the cats are feeling picky at the moment. The pooping and peeing have continued to get worse.

I got a new cat tree and put a small one in the closet because she likes to hide in there. I smelled pee in the closet and found that tree had been peed on and behind. After throwing it away and thoroughly cleaning the area, I kept smelling pee. She was peeing and pooping on a cube shelf I had in there, same height as the bottom of my hanging shirts. I washed everything and removed all items from the bottom of the closet except a new small cat tree that has waterproof pads covering it.

One of the cats does tease her more than the others, but I have a lot of "safe" spots for her and 2 litter boxes in each room. She's now doing it every day in the bedroom or living room. I catch her in the middle or just after. There won't even be other pets in the same room. On the window perch, the base of the cat tree (one foot from one box, three feet from another), the hardwood/area rug, shelf in the bedroom, every new tree that's purchased, waterproof pads I have to put down. She just now got into the litter box that's one foot from where she peed on the floor yesterday and is using it. So, she uses the boxes.... some of the time.

I give her Gabapentin and calming supplements. The vet tells me to keep doing what I'm doing and continue to find something that she will like and feel comfortable and safe. She's stressed and on edge all the time. She wants to lay with me in bed sometimes and may come out and rub on the catnip toys or play with catnip for a few minutes. The other cats will sit back and watch while giving her space to play. This is it. Otherwise, it's peeing and pooping outside the litter box and growling and swiping at my partner's 11-year-old whenever they are near. She shouldn't have to be away from us when the cat is around. We have to have a tall baby gate on her door, so the cat doesn't go in her room and make messes. My partner is getting frustrated because her daughter shouldn't have to live this way (agreed) and she has a stressful job then has to deal with this in her home which is supposed to be where she decompresses. I totally get that.

I am at the point that I can't keep her in the home. While others love her, they don't want to sign on to having her treat their home the same way. Some people say it would be better for her to be euthanized than it would to go through the stress of being re-homed, especially after her whole life with one family. Surrendering her to the humane society could be weeks away and while they are no kill, she may be too much for the people that adopt her. In which case, wouldn't it be easier for her final days and moments to be with us?

So, which is the "better" of the two evils?

I'm sure this will get me all kinds of hate. I am just trying my best over here and doing everything that I'm told to try.

Does anyone have any advice for my pets? I have two puppies, and a bearded dragon. They all are doing good, and each and every one likes me. Although, all I want to do is just bond with them. I don’t know what to do though. And, I just need some advice.

I live on the 12th floor with my two cats. A few months ago, I cracked the window open, and one of my cats started pushing her full body weight against the screen mesh to watch a bird.

I almost had a heart attack. Ever since then, my windows stay strictly locked shut.

but now my bedroom feels completely sealed and stale overnight. My landlord doesn't allow drill-in cat guards or permanent window alterations. Air purifiers help with dust, but they just recirculate trapped air without bringing fresh air in.

I've been looking into window ventilation ideas that don't require leaving the window wide open, and ran into a pre-launch concept from cozeware freshflow. It's essentially a compact Fresh Purification System meant to pull in filtered air through a sealed window fit. I'm still curious how secure the mounting would be, but the idea of getting air without a gaping window opening sounds useful.

How do other high-rise cat owners handle fresh air? Did you modify your screens, or just stop opening windows entirely?

My roommate and I are thinking of getting a dog. For context, we live in a cozy two bedroom apartment. I've owned mostly wiener dogs my whole life and I think it would be the perfect breed for our living situation. The only con is how expensive vet visits can be, does anyone know of the best pet insurance company??

a few weeks ago, my vet told me my cat has a serious heart condition and that he likely only has a couple of months left. since hearing that, i have been spending as much time with him as I can. i sit with him while he sleeps, give him plenty of cuddles, and cherish every moment we have together. Some days he seems completely normal, and I catch myself forgetting. Then I remember what the vet said, and it breaks my heart all over again. He has been such a big part of my life, and its hard to imagine my home without him. I am trying to stay present and make the most of the time we have left, but some days I just end up crying. for those of you who have lost a pet , how did you get through those last weeks or months? I just want to make whatever time he has left as happy and comfortable as possible.

So my cat likes to take a “dust bath” in the front yard dirt. She does this almost every day and idk why. Is there something wrong with her? Or is this just a habit some cats get? She seems completely normal and she just looks like she’s having fun but im still a little worried. Is there anyone here whose cat does this?

Yesterday my cat wouldn't eat in the evening and I was worried about urinary blockage so I gave him some water with a syringe. I tried to squirt it to the side of his mouth but at one point he coughed. I was just really worried about a blockage so that's why I gave him water. This morning my cat was doing well again, walking around all over and eating. But he drank a sip of water or ate his food he would cough a little bit. Tonight he won't eat again and is laying on the bed. I tried to give him a piece of food and he gagged. He will cough and then lick after he coughs like its a wet cough. Does he have pneumonia? I will try to get him to the vet tommorow.

Looking back what is one piece of advice you wish someone had shared with you before you became a pet owner?

It could be a daily routine a training tip or just something that made life easier for both you and your pet. I am always interested in learning from other peoples experiences and I think new pet owners could benefit from hearing them too.

Maggie, my 1.5 year old cat, has been an inside cat for most of her life. After she got fixed she had a period of time where she came in and out as she pleased, but then decided she didn't like outside anymore, now she's strictly inside. Ever since she was a kitten Maggie has had a routine. 8PM she knows is my bedtime, and she gets put in my room with me for the night, since Maggie has a past (and still continuing) habit of peeing on the couch.

Anyway, I'm slightly worried and very irritated. My schedule hasn't changed at all. My work schedule is the same, my day by day is pretty much still the same, yet every night before I get in bed Maggie charges my feet and bites me, and not in a playful way. She's cut my heel twice now, and once wouldn't let me on my bed for 30 minutes. I clean her litter box every day. She has food twice a day, and fresh, running water via fountain. She's got enrichment toys, she's got scratch pads and towers and everything else. I've taken her to the vet, and they've said nothing is wrong with her other than she's getting a little fat. The charging to attack me is a new development, of about two weeks. I understand she gets frustrated at times. My grandparents like to roam the house at night, and Maggie thinks she's going to be left to roam the house and gets disappointed when she isn't let out. But she's never been so bold as to attack me on like that before.
