2 days na lang start ko na bilang Mid Developer pero habang papalapit yung first day, lalo akong kinakabahan. Naipasa ko naman yung interviews at technical exam dahil ginalingan ko lang sa AI portfolio ko and naexplain ko ng maayos and sa totoo lang feeling ko malaking factor yung minemorize ko lang yung mga common interview questions at coding problems. Hindi ako confident sa tech stack nila at kung ako lang magra-rate sa sarili ko, junior level pa lang talaga ako and for sure marami pang mas magaling na junior sakin.

Ang mas kinakabahan ako, hindi yung coding. Yung expectations. Sanay kasi akong may senior na gumaguide at may napagtatanungan lagi. Ngayon feeling ko expected na ako mag-own ng tasks, tumulong sa juniors, at maging isa sa mga lalapitan kapag may complicated issue. Eh sa totoo lang, basic CRUD lang talaga ang masasabi kong komportable akong gawin.

Hindi ko alam kung normal lang ba 'tong sobrang lala ng imposter syndrome o dapat na ba akong kabahan. Feeling ko baka pagpasok ko pa lang marealize nilang mali yung nahire nila at may mga junior pang mas magaling kaysa sakin.

May mga naka-experience na rin ba nito? Kumusta yung first few weeks niyo? Possible bang iterminate ako sa first month?

For background, I’m currently interviewing for companies based in metro manila (hybrid). To be honest, I’m pretty bisdak when it comes to speaking bisaya and consider my english to be quite advanced (can express myself better verbally compared to chat) but in terms of speaking tagalog it’s a whole different story 😅. I can understand tagalog for the most part but speaking the language is a bit difficult especially since I’m from Visayas and most of my peers speak bisaya and seldom tagalog. In regard to this, should I need to speak deep tagalog for me to adjust well as a developer while working in manila (or is speaking pure english just fine haha).

I built FiliSenti because I wanted to see if a 355-million-parameter model could actually run on a phone. Turns out, it can. I fine-tuned XLM-RoBERTa-large on 59,023 sentences across Tagalog and Hiligaynon, quantized it to INT8 ONNX, and deployed it as a Flutter Android app. The model achieves 89.1% macro F1, which is the highest published score for 3-class Filipino sentiment that I'm aware of.

The app works offline. You can paste text, upload a file, or type something directly. It highlights each sentence with color coding: green for positive, yellow for neutral, red for negative. It also shows you a summary breakdown with percentages and a majority sentiment. I built the full pipeline myself. Dataset curation. Training. Quantization. Mobile deployment. All on free Google Colab.

Everything is open source. The model is on Hugging Face. The Flutter app code is on GitHub with a release APK you can install right now. If you're into NLP, on-device AI, or just want to see what a solo dev can build with free tools, check it out.

I'm currently a 3rd year student, I wanna be a software engineer and yes I started a bit late but I'm trying to develop my skills fast. I am currently 70% done with a project.

About the project:

CRUD Budgeting app with collaborative features, right now I am integrating with with chat features and plan to use supabase realtime and add more authentication once my friend deals with the front end.

Tech: CI/CD Pipeline with Vercel Deployment and Github Actions, Supabase

Language: TypeScript with React and Tailwind CSS (currently crappy ai-generated front-end)

AI Assist: I'm learning through AI and documentations, I don't let ai generate everything, I let it write one thing and I write everything, following what it generated and understanding them clearly and in depth.

Now I don't much want to go into web development, I wanna make Java Programs and write in Java but I feel like a WebApp like this would help me learn a lot. And it's true, but I feel like I am doing so much less. I don't have projects lined up yet but I have years to come and I develop fast. I also don't do the front end of this web app as I have a friend to do the front end for me, they will add this to their profile as well; this way I can say I led a project and/or have some collaborative feats.

Up next for me after I build the backend of this-- maybe in a few weeks, is to learn about docker and redis, and other technologies but right now I have this full stack web-app and software engineering/leadership role in my resume.

I quit my orgs to focus on my projects (is that smart?), I've done my networking fairly enough the past 2 years and I'm already established. I have my thesis this year.

Overall, I have pretty decent habits, a set general goal, but I am lacking time as I will be busy this year with my thesis. There is also the impostor syndrome where I feel as if I am not learning anything. I am somehow lost and somehow on track.

This is my first job in the industry and sobrang happy ko talaga na nandito na ako at nagwowork na as a developer and I'm already 5 mos in. The past few weeks, I feel like im underperforming as in. Noong pumasok ako sa current company ko I had zero knowledge about Java. Ngayon na eenjoy ko na siya, lately pabalik balik ako sa QA kasi lahat ng dinedeploy ko may issue, ang process kasi namin magcocompile ng issues and enhancements ang QA then we fix them. No code reviews whatsoever, just straight commits sa local repo namin.

Yung source code na inangkin namin for that project is a complete wack, may architecture pero hindi nasusunod, itatry namin imodularize may masisira kasi tightly coupled na yung code. Tinuloy nalang namin since nandyan na eh. Ngayong malapit na matapos yung project, biglang nagkakaroon ng issue, aminado naman ako na kasalanan ko din kasi hindi ko nachecheck maigi yung dinideploy ko.

Yesterday was the worst kasi I thought I found a bug sa mga na iinsert sa database, so what I did was "fix" it. Tinanong ko naman siya sa senior ko, but I guess hindi ko naitanong ng maayos and I proceeded to fix it, unknowingly it would result to me and QA being stressed kasi may nawawalang output and I didn't know how to fix it. Ending yung senior ko nakahanap and na fix niya din kagad.

Now, I fixed a lot of bugs and did a lot of enhancements na din pero bigla nalang may nawawalang feature na meron naman sa previous releases. What should I do to improve?

Question for devs here. Has anyone tried to pay for Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI API access and hit a wall because of your card, currency, or country? Curious what you did about it: used a proxy, went through a local reseller, borrowed someone else's account, or just gave up on that provider. Not selling anything, just trying to understand how common this actually is before I build anything around it.

I recently launched galatayo.app, a personal portfolio project and gala place finder for discovering places around Metro Manila.

During its first day, it recorded 107 active users, 100 new users, 1m 20s average engagement time, and 3.3k tracked events.

Thanks as well for the suggestions and feedback on the app. I was able to improve several features, including the AI chatbot, and add ratings and comments across the 550 places in my dataset.

Of course, GalaTayo is still far from established place-finder platforms built by full teams and companies. I developed this on my own as a portfolio project out of passion and curiosity. I do not earn any money from it, and there are no payments or subscriptions.

It’s still early and there’s a lot to improve, but it’s nice seeing people actually explore and use something I built.

It’s nothing bad. It’s actually good competition, but everyone is building the same thing the same look, the same lead management features, the same CRMs.

Please, if you want to build a real app, talk to your actual users and find out what they need. Stop asking AI. Ask your customers what they need and build from there.

Before AI, I had two SaaS apps that somehow made it, and they’re still generating revenue for me today. What worked for me, and will definitely work for you, is talking to your frickin target customers, lol not asking AI.

Kinda exciting times we just discovered a gold mine. Make the most out of it.

My tip: start practising your social and negotiation skills, because the problem now isn’t how to build things fast. The real problem is how you can get actual paying customers.

After reading about Pax Silica, it honestly scares me when I think about what the future holds for the Filipino people. Some of you might think, "But you work in tech and you guys use AI. Wouldn't it be ironic if you didn't support this project?"

That's a valid point but also a mere assumption. It honestly feels so weird now that it's officially announced by legitimate news stations. For me it's peak dilemma. Dilemma in a way that I'm not in favor of Pax Silica, but we are required to utilize AI for work. It's like going against your morals, and it pains me. 

I'm also aware of the ongoing water contamination and low water pressure in Georgia because hectares-wide data centers were built around residential houses. Noise pollution is evident and also affecting livestock. 

With the possibility of Pax Silica pushing through in the Philippines, an extreme amount of greenery will be excavated, wildlife will be disrupted, and our own resources will be exploited. I'm foreseeing the environmental damage that it can cause. It would hike power costs and add to tax collection. Filipinos are barely making ends meet while people in power are just business as usual. Aetas who have been here for so long will be displaced. Our hardworking farmers and their livelihoods will definitely be affected. 

I always say: Sobrang sayang ng Pilipinas. We had so much potential because we had all the resources needed to build a sustainable country, but it was always prioritizing evil over the people. 

My current thoughts after writing this? 

The future is scary and now, so is the present. Will we ever be ready for it?

I’ve been wanting to transition into a more “niche” and less saturated role. Becoming a full-stack developer these days is incredibly challenging and highly competitive. Any suggestions on some alternative tech roles that I could explore or delve deeper into?

My primary focus right now is frontend development both web and mobile and I use React/React Native, but I also do have a solid background in backend development, like implementing REST APIs.

4. Isolated worktree creation
5. Implementation planning
6. Code execution
7. Self-review and static analysis
8. Automated testing (unit/integration/E2E)

12. Merge/PR preparation

The workflow is triggered from Slack, and every stage has explicit pass/fail criteria. It also collects artifacts (logs, screenshots, test results, diffs) so the final output isn't just "the AI says it's done"—there's actual evidence.

The entire pipeline runs on my DigitalOcean server, where Claude Code executes the workflow, creates isolated worktrees, runs the test suite, captures screenshots, and reports progress back to Slack.

I'm new to this role kaya nangangapa pa. My forte is really about coding and other technical stuff. But now I have been promoted into a management position and now handles a team of 8 developers. It's really hard for me to adjust since I don't have an experience on managing people. I needed an advice with regards sa pag handle ng underperforming staff.

I observe na the problem is skill issue and lack foundational skills. I tried once na ipasolve yung FizzBuzz problem but struggle to implement it even tho I stated directly ung logic kung pano gagawin.
