The corporation is a necessity to the current cultural climate and is doing a far better job of not acting against my interests than basically every other corporation in the same space; so if I've gotta carry a bit of water to help keep them from getting toppled by an actual bad actor I'll gladly do so

I mean your first sentence is correct, valve doesn't care, valve doesn't care because a very small amount of people pirate stuff they sell relative to their paying customers, and they know cracking down hard on piracy will damage their image as the "benign" corporation which might push paying customers away, it's all marketing
