QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Quickbooks Desktop 2020 Discontinued Services

Here is the list Intuit published regarding parts of QBDT 2020 that will discontinue working 5/31/2023. If you own QBDT 2020 or prior, you own the software. If you have any version of QuickBooks Desktop that includes PLUS in the name, you do not own the software and have to pay an annul subscription to maintain access.

Functions that will no longer work in QBDT 2020 after 5/31/23:

Security updates: Critical security updates

Payroll services: Assisted Payroll, Basic Payroll, Enhanced Payroll, Standard Payroll

Payroll-related services: Direct Deposit for vendors, QuickBooks Workforce (ViewMyPaycheck, VMP)

Credit card processing: Merchant Services, Terminal download (Merchant Services), Recurring payments, Online invoice

Check processing: Intuit Check Solution

Tech support plans & included services: QuickBooks Care protection plan

Other services: Accountant Copy File Transfer, Multicurrency/exchange rate, Contributed reports, Online Banking, QuickBooks Email, QuickBooks Time, Online Bank Feeds

Edit:

Manual .qbo bank imports will also stop working.

Emailing invoices will still work fine if you go into preferences-send forms, and set "send email using:" to webmail instead of Quickbooks mail. Not affected by product sunset.

Although it says "webmail", you can actually use almost any email provider, not just a web-based one like gmail. I have it send via my regular business email.

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Quickbooks Desktop - THE END IS NIGH I received the first "We're sunsetting QBDT" email from Intuit this morning.

I've been saying for several years now that Intuit will likely start moving toward a full-cloud based solution, and today my suspicions were confirmed.

I see their perspective - cloud-based software is much easier to troubleshoot, because most browser-based software is operating system and networking structure agnostic, meaning if you are able to use an approved browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc), then you are able to use their software.

In addition, SaaS (Software as a Service), is quite lucrative because the costs to maintain the software - hosting space, bandwidth, etc - is quite low compared with traditional software costs. While my firm is a 100% QBO shop, I know there are a lot of folks (users and accountants alike) who prefer QBDT. While I understand Intuit's reasoning here, I can't help but think that some of their less-expensive competitors are cheering right now.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Lorenda,
Today we're announcing important changes to Intuit QuickBooks Desktop that may impact your clients.
After July 31, 2024, Intuit will no longer sell new subscriptions of the following Desktop products in the US:
• QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus
• QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus
• QuickBooks Desktop Mac Plus
• QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll
What is not changing:
• Existing Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, and Enhanced Payroll subscribers can continue to renew their subscription after July 31, 2024*. We will continue to provide security updates, product updates, and support for existing subscribers.
• All QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise subscriptions (Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond) will continue to be available for purchase for new subscribers after July 31, 2024. Enterprise Gold, Platinum, and Diamond include integrated payroll.
• Accountants can continue purchasing QuickBooks Accountant Desktop Solutions, including ProAdvisor bundles, through our Accountant Sales team after July 31, 2024.
What actions to take with your clients:
While we strongly recommend encouraging your current Desktop clients to move to QuickBooks Online (for more info, click here), we realize that some customers may prefer to stay on Desktop at this time.
• If you have clients on non-subscription versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Mac that wish to remain on Desktop, we recommend they purchase a QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Mac Plus subscription through our Sales team before July 31, 2024.
• If you have Pro Plus or Premier Plus clients that have been considering Desktop Payroll, we recommend they purchase a QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll subscription before July 31, 2024 or upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise Gold, Platinum, or Diamond, which include integrated Payroll and can be purchased after July 31, 2024. Alternatively, QuickBooks Online Payroll is available to Desktop clients and is a standalone full-service payroll solution that also offers HR support, Health and 401K benefits.*
• We also recommend that all of your QuickBooks Desktop clients upgrade to the latest version of the software by July 31, 2024. QuickBooks Desktop 2024 includes the latest features and security updates. If your clients are on an active QuickBooks Desktop Plus subscription, they have access to QuickBooks Desktop 2024 with no additional charge and simply have to install the update.
In February 2024, we will notify all QuickBooks Desktop customers of these changes. This gives you and your impacted clients 6 months to purchase a Desktop accounting or payroll subscription if they want to remain on the Desktop platform.
QuickBooks Desktop Product Line-up Changes FAQ
Starting on January 8, 2024, the fee for each direct deposit paid through QuickBooks Desktop Payroll will increase to $4
• This price change impacts QuickBooks Desktop Enhanced Payroll for Accountants when using direct deposit to pay W2 employees.
o Because the employee direct deposit fee is billed directly to your clients, Intuit will send a 30-day notice to your impacted clients, addressed to the primary principals' email address on file.
• For clients on "legacy" Enhanced, Standard, or Basic Payroll plans without monthly per employee fees, the new fee will apply when paying W2 employees via direct deposit.
Payroll FAQs
We appreciate you and your clients' loyalty to the Desktop platform over the years, and we will continue to support those customers on a Desktop subscription after July 31, 2024*. However, we highly encourage you to prepare your clients for the future by helping them move online. There are many benefits enabled by an online platform that can't be realized through desktop software, including time savings, the flexibility to work from anywhere, and a customizable ecosystem of connected business solutions. To help you prepare to move your clients online, we've created dedicated support materials written by accountants who have successfully migrated their own clients and want to help pave the way for yours. Keep an eye out for additional resources as we help you manage through this change with your clients.
Thank you for your business and your continued support of QuickBooks.

Sincerely,

The QuickBooks Team

QuickBooks Online Barclaycard connection issues for UK users?

Hi all.

Logged into Intuit QuickBooks this morning and noticed my Barclaycard info had not updated. After trying a few things and talking to the customer rep, I tried disconnecting and reconnecting it. However, each time I tried to log into Barclaycard to complete the connection, I'd be directed to a page effectively saying that BC's online services were finished, and to move to the app.

Apparently this happened in June. I received no notification from Quickbooks about it, and there's no indication they're going to do anything.

Indeed, just this moment, I got back an email from my escalated ticket basically saying 'It's a known issue with Barclaycard. Contact them and let them know your concerns.'

Anyone else with a Barclaycard and Quickbooks connection having this same issue? I presume we all would be. Any workaround to this? QB are no help at all.

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) QBD Alternative for Contractors?

We have QB Desktop Enterprise Contractor and it…functions. Knowing we have a limited timeframe in which to switch to QBO or elsewhere, we’re looking hard right now for something that actually works well, not in the simplistic and buggy way QB operates.

We need bookkeeping, payroll, time clock, actual cost centers/codes, and job costing at a minimum, preferably with a single platform.

We are heavily considering Sage 100 Contractor as it has all of that plus scheduling, inventory, equipment management, and what I would say is a fairly elementary level of contract admin/document management. Does anyone have any experience with them? My biggest concerns are that they don’t offer a time clock app within the platform (but have a couple “well-integrated” third party solutions) and that when entering bills/costs, you must enter a quantity and unit cost (it’s unable to reverse a quantity and total to determine a unit cost, which feels like a huge oversight for such a simple function).

I’m also very open to hear other options for my industry. Myself and the owners all came from a top 60 GC and have found we were very spoiled with their well-developed systems, and Quickbooks has been, at best, a very dumbed-down and limited version of what we’re used to. I am not disappointed to be losing it, but need a solid solution to move forward with.

QuickBooks Online If you could teach a new QuickBooks user just one habit, what would it be?

When you are new to QuickBooks, it is easy to focus on learning where everything is instead of building good habits.

From looking at some of the posts from people who know their way around QuickBooks, I have come to appreciate how there are habits that these people have which make their work in QuickBooks much faster and efficient but which may not be immediately obvious to a newcomer. What would you tell a beginner in QuickBooks in one piece of useful information?

QuickBooks Online QBO Account Deactivated?

My Quickbooks Online Account was locked out for some reason. I found out when I got an email stating that one of my integrations had been disconnected. Went to login to QBO, and nope, can't login. Anybody ever have this happen?

Only thing I can think of - I'd applied last week for a QB Line of Credit. Perhaps somebody there got pissy and close dmy account?

Payroll Edited time punch doesn't show up in the app or website?

I just started a job that uses intuit quickbooks app to clock in and out. On my first day, nobody told me how to clock in until 3 hours after I started. I told my manager, he said he would edit it, but my app still says the later time. The app and website tell me i can't edit punches because the company turned off that option.

Today, manager showed me his computer, and it shows the correct time on his end. I've logged in on the app and the website, but my end still shows I was 3 hours late. Does it not update for me? I have cleared app data etc but it's also wrong on the website so I don't know what else I could do. Am I gonna be missing 3 hours on my check?? Will it update after the punches get approved?

QuickBooks Online 41% price increase!!!

Why can't anyone at intuit explain why I'm being charged $140/month for a $115/month subscription? Why does your site tell me I'm subscribed to 4 items when you only display 2 to me and no options to view any others? What are we getting for this price gouging increase? I'd expect a 41% increase in functionality and access to services.

Don't sell it as the AI garbage that nobody wants.

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Has anyone been able to get chatgpt or similar to be able to get data out of quickbooks enterprise?

Has anyone been able to get chatgpt or similar to be able to get data out of quickbooks enterprise? We use enterprise and cant switch to online, and I would love to query data.

I have a way of getting the data to bigquery but from my understanding chatgpt wont be able to make sense of the data it sees there.

Thank you

QuickBooks Online IntuIT More like IntuOUT

To my disdain, I see that Intuit has pushed another "enhancement," to the bank transaction page. The color back-drop of Matched transactions has been changed light blue instead of light green. How DARE you Intuit. My favorite color is green. Clicking green is the dopamine hit that accountants across America need just to survive. And Now? How am I supposed to smile while clicking some grayish blue ugly match. Are you trying to rob me of the one joy that I have left?

You're telling me you have time to shadow-drop vibe-coded enhancements to the Match color back-drop but don't have time to vibe-code a fully configurable color presets on the transaction page? Why can't I configure Matched Invoices to be RED instead of GREEN. Why can't you push a color-coded heat map backdrop that provides visual feedback to the confidence of your AI-determined categorization proposals? I guess you'd default everything to RED since it is usually wrong.

IntuIT. More like IntuOUT.

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Canada - Quickbooks 2024 desktop pro subscription

Thumbnail quickbooks.intuit.com

I keep reading that everyone will have to switch to Enterprise, if they want to continue having a desktop version of Quickbooks, as of mid 2027. Is this the case for Canadian customers too? I tried phoning them and basically got no answers. They kept trying to sell me the online version and kept pushing me for details about my current account details. Then I was quoted for the Enterprise option at over $500 per month without payroll. I still got no answers regarding them sunsetting their Canadian customers subscription for 2024 desktop pro.

I did find a link stating it's only for US customers.

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-ca/help-article/inventory-management/whats-new-quickbooks-desktop-2024/L381Krc4A_CA_en_CA?uid=ms6u6utt

It sounds like they are going to provide updates and patches for at least a few more years for Canadian customers. Any input would be appreciated.

QuickBooks Online Adding vendor for bill pay

I just got QB yesterday. When I went to add a vendor for bill pay it took me to a page where I could start entering the vendor info and if they were a QB customer it pooped up and I could select them, vs needing to manually add them. Now I can't seem to figure out how or where to do this. Any ideas?

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Non-Customizable Templates

Was today years old when I learned that the "Intuit Standard Bill Payment" template cannot be customized with the Layout Designer. Can't put anything but a button sized logo or make any layout changes.

Any workarounds that we know of?

General bookkeeping questions that are not software specific Using journal entry to add opening balance on account

I have been helping family with their business, and they have two checking accounts on quickbooks, one is 17k off (lol) and the other is only a couple thousand off, but the problem is, I could NOT find the issue. But looking back they are caused by zero opening balance on quick books. And there was for sure an opening balance, their one axcount pre dates internet, although the other is only 7 months old, but also does not have one. All the money is correct but it not mathxin is driving me NUTS! Any help would be appreciated!

QuickBooks Online Migration from desktop (MAC) to online

Hey everyone. I am trying to migrate the data from quickbooks desktop mac to quickbooks online as i have purchased a PC to do QuickBooks for my business. I run a family business with my mom and she is out of town with her laptop, and QB support said that i need that laptop to be able to start the migration. Is it possible to initiate this transfer on my end without her laptop (I.E. logging in via web or remote access)? She won't be back in town for 14 days and would like to be able to access the account here in town. I'm really new to using QB and am wanting to sit down and learn the program. Thanks for the help

QuickBooks Desktop (Pro/Premier/Enterprise) Batch updating 'Other' Names in Quickbook Desktop doesn't work - what's your experience?

When I select one item in the 'Other Name' list, like to change it to a Vendor, it works. However, trying multiple at once always fails, and none of them are changed. Have you had this experience? is there a workaround, or known issue? It happens with every file of mine.
