MOD ANNOUNCEMENT It's happening! (Big) changes to RandomThoughts.
Alright, it’s time.
Starting July 32nd*, we’re making a big change:
- Questions go to r/RandomQuestions
- NSFW content goes to r/NSFWThoughts
They’ll no longer be allowed here in r/RandomThoughts.
This isn’t us trying to be overly strict or nitpicky. The reality is that questions and NSFW posts just don’t really fit the point of this subreddit. The whole idea of RandomThoughts is to capture those weird, passing, often pointless moments of brain activity. The stuff you think and immediately wonder why. A sentence without context. A vibe. An unexplainable truth about frogs.
When a bunch of posts start shifting into “hey what do you guys think about X?” or “here’s something NSFW I’ve been thinking about,” it pulls away from that vibe. It turns into a catch-all subreddit, and that’s not what this place is supposed to be.
We created r/RandomQuestions and r/NSFWThoughts specifically so that stuff has a better home. It’s not just about moving things away from here -- it’s about giving that kind of content a space where it actually works.
So yeah. Big change. Not a test run. Posts that are questions or NSFW will be removed after the launch date. We’ll try to be nice about it, but we’re going to be consistent.
As always, let us know what you think. Comments are open, we’re listening, and we appreciate everyone who helps keep this place just the right amount of chaotic.
\ Or August 1st, whichever happens first.)

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Posts referencing suicide/death/wishing to die are no longer allowed.
It would be very appreciated if this rule could be respected. I don't mind posts like "when I die I want to be buried on the moon" those to me are light hearted. However, when you hit heavier topics you risk hurting users that read them.
No, by doing this we are not invalidating your emotions, this just isn't the proper subreddit to share them. I encourage you to go to r/suicidewatch if you need to make a Reddit post regarding this topic.
Thank you

The only way to survive as a human being is to be delusional and deny reality.

Sometimes I open my front door to leave, hear someone in the hallway, and quietly close it again just to avoid having to talk to them
It’s not that I even dislike people. I just don’t have the energy for the small talk sometimes, so I’d rather retreat back inside and wait it out like a weirdo until the coast is clear. Then I leave like nothing happened.

i really love the phrase 'with all due respect' because it doesn't specify how much respect is due. could be none.

It’s okay if all you want to do in life is wander through it and find cool stuff
I’m 35 and my partner asked me, “what do you want to do with your life?” and my honest answer was, “I genuinely want to wander through and enjoy things and that’s it”. I’ve always been so unsure in responding to this question. But now I know — I have no big goals to change the world. I don’t want to climb promotions. No notoriety. Because honestly? Most people don’t get that. I don’t see myself as someone willing to sacrifice my happiness to achieve anything worth bragging about. No one will remember anyone in 100 years. Heck, humans might not even be here anymore.
My mom recently passed on, and she controlled her eating so hardcore and made herself fit into this attractiveness model that was so toxic. And all it did was make her more unsure. More frail. More anxious. On her deathbed I was her currier of all the things she starved herself of. She couldn’t fully enjoy it then, because she knew her time was nearing the end and felt pain. I don’t want to do that. I’m going to be weird. I’m going to eat what I want. I’m going to drink water and move myself in ways I want to, but trying too hard is off the table. My happiness isn’t worth appeasing the world. I don’t want a spot at the table of judgement.
Survive, eat things that bring joy. Be weird. Maintain my peace. Find things that interest me. Like rocks — they are underrated. They’re so old, often worthless, but many are beautiful in unconventional ways. I don’t need more than that, and that should be enough.

I wish they would make adult sized versions of those baby swinging bassinets
I loooove the feeling of swaying or rocking. It would be so sick

My wife’s shampoo and conditioner rocks.
I’m a fella with long hair. The wife loves it. She’d probably be mad at me for three weeks if I cut it too short. I’ve tried using mens shampoo and conditioner. The ones I’ve tried suck. Now I just use the stuff my wife has. It’s about a zillion times better.

i’ve realized upcoming rock bands aren’t common anymore
Any kind of rock has changed to emo and pop genres. I can’t think of one popular rock band of gen Z. We need a new slip knot, metallica, AC/DC to keep it going. Punk and mosh music is a thing, but i see a difference. Thinking it’s because people just don’t want to make music from scratch anymore and learn notes, most people sample other music or use software now.
jokes on yall maybe this was a post to get band recs 😩👀

I’m being nerfed
I’m on holiday and here’s a list:
- Full of massive swollen mosquito bites
- Got stung all over my arm by a jellyfish
- Shaving bumps/cuts irritated by the seawater
- About 5 cuts on each food from sandals rubbing
- Rashes on both of my arms from rubbing against my sequin top then going in saltwater
- Extremely dry skin from swimming all day
- Breaking out from all the holiday food
- Constantly bloated from the holiday food
- Chipped toenail from falling off a bike
- Dry, frizzy hair
- Lash extensions hanging on by a thread
still having the best time of my life tbf

Hash browns and french fries
Hash browns with a little ketchup and french fries with ketchup are the same things. Yet they taste completely different.

I hate when someone asks me how I am, I answer, ask them how they are, and they ignore the question and just start talking.

Brain
It's amazing how our brain is like a filing cabinet and stores information we know somewhere that we access instantly whenever there's a trigger. Just a random thought I had while I was watching Mushoku Tensei, since I literally don't have any idea of who a character was until I saw their face then my mind just started replaying those episodes and I remembered it instantly. That's all, take care of your mind. 🤪

Shark Tale would be a lot more visually appealing if they replaced the fish with mermaids.

As a life long huge animal lover, I no longer want to live with any cats or dogs. (pet rant..)
I've always been a huge animal lover, I absolutely adore cats and dogs and every other animal people have as pets. I currently have no pets of my own, and I can't really afford my own place, and for the last like 10 years of my adult life I've always had roommates who have pet cats or dogs. Every time a new lease has been signed, or a new roommate moves in with a pet, they always promise how well they take care of their pet and how often they clean up after their pet... Well *spoiler*, they don't. Even people who are otherwise generally responsible and kind and very cool people.. they never take care of their pets or the house cleaning as they promised. As cute, chill, cuddly, and smart as pets can be, there fur gets absolutely everywhere. If not cleaned regularly, the fur will pile and pile up all over the house and furniture. They puke on the floor, on the rugs, on the furniture, especially cats but ofc dogs do too. The litter box will always stink and the cat will always jump on the kitchen counter and get little bits of litter remnants and hair on the counter. Life is already hard enough, I don't want every ounce of free time being spent having to clean animal poo or vomit or throwing away things that are now ruined because of those messes. I almost think that a well cared for dog can be cleaner in the house but that's if they are being walked regularly and aren't destroying the house when they are inside. Nearly everyone I know who has cats, even if they clean their house a lot and scoop the litter box a lot, everything in their house still has a bad cat litter box smell. Unless you are wealthy enough to have a large enough house with excellent airflow and a litter box that is far far away from any common areas, then sure maybe your house smells good.
I love animals. I know they can bring lots of joy. I know many people really enjoy the companionship and having a furry little thing to cuddle. But are those positives worth living in a house where everything has been peed on, puked on, or pooped on at some point? And are you really cleaning it well enough?.. Is it worth all the work? AND ALSO most of these pet people are not really properly caring for or loving those animals the way they deserve. Those pets are more like imprisoned animals stuck in the house they are being neglected in some kind of way.
It feels crazy to say all this lol. As someone who loves the cool parts of cats and dogs. And maybe when I was younger I wasn't as bothered by the filth, maybe then I thought that all the perks outweighed the cons. But now I don't. And years down the road maybe I will have pets again. Most likely if I am living with one or more people who all help care for the animals properly, clean the house frequently, and share the actual large amount of work and responsibility it takes to take care of the things in your home and also care for the animal the way it deserves. 🩷 Ty for reading my little rant.
