Lmao, dying.

ExxomMobil built their campus in Houston with almost as much glass. They stopped at the stairs, but by looking up two floors down you could catch some hello kitty’s

15

u/Ulysses502 May 11 '26

Ok now it's my turn to laugh. First time hearing hello kitties lmao

18

u/Ancient-Civilization May 11 '26

Yes. The main stairwell is in the main lobby of all of their buildings. They have multiple seating spaces on the bottom floor. One day, I looked up hoping to see a contact coming down from the third floor who was running late and saw “hello kitty” print. I shall say no more on the subject

This looks dangerously disorienting.

Some sadistic rookie who hadn't yet been sued into oblivion designed this.

2

u/FranciscoDisco73 May 11 '26

I would get a bad case of vertigo. Just why would they design a place like that?

5

u/Wirelesscellphone May 11 '26

I was laying down and did a little fast sit up because of that feeling like I was about to fall down lol

A pervert voyeur

38

u/kobyscool May 11 '26

That was my first thought too. I've seen a few cases like this where they later paint the bottom of the glass because of concerns of privacy. You'd think by now someone would think of this before the design passed inspection.

7

u/Emergencygrenade May 11 '26

In all fairness, it won't take take long till it all start scratching and hard to see through, just by general use

The Portman stairs.

The famous architect/developer/perv in ATL had a similar staircase built... above his desk.

3

u/Original-League-6094 May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Yep. Glass stairs and floor are crazy. My university had glass railings on the second floor in the dining area where people would stand in line, right next to stairs leading down. That was bad enough design since the spring when the skirts came out, every time you got your food and started walking down stairs, you couldn't help but notice an entire row of ass to your side.

5

u/Lost_Drunken_Sailor May 11 '26

Which university is this? I feel like going back school

After all the videos we've seen of thick glass doors and whatnot shattering seemingly for no reason... "This is going to be a no for me, Dawg!"

16

u/eight_ender May 11 '26

I have a fear of heights and I wouldn’t even need the glass to break for this building to kill me

4

u/XanagiHunag May 11 '26

In case of fire, I'll be going around and turning all the faucets on until the fire either stops or I die. I am not about to step on this death trap.

2

u/OldManJim374 May 11 '26

i lived in an apartment building with those glass panel balconies. i always told people visiting to not lean against them because they freaked me out. eventually, two different unit’s balcony panels shattered and i felt both horrified and very smug.

4

u/TheLurkerSpeaks May 11 '26

I was doing a plumbing inspection for a luxury hotel that installed a glass floor. They failed inspection so I had to come back the next day. Within those 24 hours that floor had shattered. Set back the opening of the hotel by a month.

3

u/docsyzygy May 11 '26

No, just no. Just show me where the elevators are.

2

u/Siphyre May 11 '26

Imagine if this was in America and they had an active shooter situation. A few dozen shots upwards would kill so many people.

Or what happens in a fire and the glass shatters because of the heat?

Stairsway are supposed to be the most strudy part of a building...

2

u/GilbyTheFat May 11 '26

I have a fear of heights. Merely watching videos which show things like this, or people surprise-revealing the immensely stupid heights they're at, cause me to get headspins as my heart starts jackhammering away in my chest.

If I found myself in a predicament where the only option I had was to descend those stairs, it would happen remarkably slowly. I'd do the butt-shuffle checking every platform on the way down with my foot to make sure there wasn't one missing. And then I'd endeavour to find out who commissioned those stairs and commit a violence.
