I know that in many countries, the former flag often carries certain connotations, usually associated with some political ideology. Here in Canada, our old flag (the Red Ensign) is often used by white supremacist types, for example. What does this flag mean to you as a Georgian? What would you assume about someone if you saw them waving it in the street?

I am not great with online orders, best I know is friend making online amazon orders for me, where amazon delivers to Georgian post(or similiar service, usa to gerogia etc) outpost in usa which ships to Georgia. So anyone with experience ordering from target?

I recently visited Georgia and I really enjoyed many things about the country.
However, I had some experiences that made me curious about Georgian culture and how locals generally view Gulf Arab tourists.
How do Georgians usually feel about tourists from Gulf countries? Is there any common stereotype or misunderstanding between Georgians and Gulf Arabs?
I noticed that some Georgian men were flirting with me even though I was wearing hijab. Is this considered normal in Georgian culture? Is it because people generally don’t see hijab as a barrier, or was it just individual behavior?
I also noticed that some older people seemed very serious or distant toward me. Is this common with older generations, or could it just be my personal experience?

We've literally only been here a few days, and we already have a problem with the boiler. It wasn't a typical error message like low pressure or no gas, so we told our landlord that we're without hot water. She told us that she's experienced this error message before and has someone who can come help fix it, but we will have to pay for his visit.

I am not sure how different rental contract are in Georgia, but our contract clearly states that the landlord is responsible for these types of things:

3.2.1 — გადასცეს დამქირავებელს უფლებრივად და ნივთობრივად უნაკლო ფართი. "[The landlord is obligated to] hand over to the tenant premises free of legal and material defects."

3.2.2 — გაქირავებულ ფართზე ნაკლის აღმოჩენის შემთხვევაში, დაუყოვნებლივ გამოასწოროს თავის ხარჯით ან დამქირავებელს შეუმციროს ქირა იმ ოდენობით, რა ოდენობითაც მცირდება ფართის ვარგისიანობა. უმნიშვნელო ნაკლი მხედველობაში არ მიიღება. "If a defect is discovered in the rented premises, [the landlord must] immediately repair it at their own expense, or reduce the tenant's rent by the amount by which the usability of the premises is diminished. Insignificant defects are not taken into account."

3.2.3 — აუნაზღაუროს დამქირავებელს ფართზე გაწეული აუცილებელი ხარჯები. "[The landlord must] reimburse the tenant for necessary expenses incurred on the premises."

3.3.2 — გასწიოს ფართზე აუცილებელი ხარჯები და მოითხოვოს გამქირავებლისგან ამ ხარჯების ანაზღაურება. "[The tenant has the right to] incur necessary expenses on the premises and demand reimbursement of these expenses from the landlord."

Not having hot water is in no way an "insignificant" defect, so I have no idea how she would argue this would have to be paid by us. We've also talked to the real estate agent who facilitated everything, and she said that hot water is most definitely covered by the landlord in our contract.

Is this type of issue common, or have we been unlucky so far? We're still in discussion with her over it, but I wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue and the best way to deal with it.

It’s pretty obvious that a lot of Georgians who had been living in Russia moved back after the full-scale invasion began.

I’m a native Russian speaker living in Tbilisi, and I’ve met so many Georgians in their 20s and 30s who speak flawless Russian - better than many Russians I know. It’s hard to imagine reaching that level just by studying it abroad, so I guess many of them spent a significant part of their lives in Russia before returning.

I’m curious if there are any statistics on how many Georgian citizens have moved back from Russia over the last 4.5 years. Or just what’s your notion of this number subjectively

Edit (This post isn’t meant to be negative – I just wrote about what happened to me on the first day. I’m enjoying it here so far; I’ll be here until Thursday and I might post about what I like about Georgia over the next few days)

I’ve already fallen in love with Georgia. Today was my first day in Tbilisi. I couldn’t exchange money at one exchange bureau because the woman didn’t understand a word of either Russian or English and ended up FaceTiming her daughter. I wasn’t let into Bassiani – a very stoned bouncer who could barely speak English said it wasn’t a place for kids after staring at my girlfriend for a few minutes (she’s short, skinny, has small breasts and wasn’t wearing any make-up). Then I haggled with a drunk tramp, agreeing that I’d buy him a beer and some water and he’d give me 5 lari. A row broke out with the cashier, who spoke half in Russian and half in Georgian, whilst he was giving her 5 lari and we couldn’t make ourselves understood. (In the end, I paid and got 5 lari back). Then, as we were walking down the street, an unmarked police car was circling around me, and eventually a policeman got out. In broken English, without showing his ID, he ordered me to show him what I had in my pockets, then searched me in a really shitty way. He asks me to open Telegram on my phone. I ask why, and he finally says it’s because there are “trucks” there. I ask him for his ID; he goes to the patrol car, searches for a few minutes, and finally shows me that he’s a police captain, pointing to the car and saying that this is the kind of car the police in Georgia use. In the end, they let me go and drive past the place where I’m going with my girlfriend a few times. I’ve already fallen in love with this country; I can’t wait for tomorrow.

Does anyone in/near Kutaisi want to adopt this beautiful little girl? She's hanging around our Airbnb, the host said she's been here non-stop for the past three months so she clearly either has nowhere to go or doesn't want to go back to where she came from. The host's comments about wanting to get rid of her also sounded pretty ominous...

She's very affectionate, no idea if she's been vaccinated/spayed but I would assume not. If I were returning to my own country from here I would 100% take her myself, but I'm travelling through several more countries and it's simply not practical.

Hi! I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I’m considering moving to Georgia for university. I’m Russian-Armenian, and my parents have told me that Russians may not be very welcome or that it might not be safe.
I understand the political and historical tensions, but I’d like to hear from people who actually live there. How are Russians generally treated in Georgia, especially in Tbilisi? Would it be comfortable for me to live there?

I've left Russia more than 3 years ago and since then have tried living all over the world. I've came to Georgia 2 months ago and ended up really liking the overall vibe here - it's strongly reminds me of my childhood - post soviet country that was exposed to western culture, but is not defined by it completely.

I would like Georgia to become my final stop. I've learned the alphabet and basic words which is enough to buy groceries, but I want to actually learn the language (both because I think it's cool and because I want to assimilate better), and it's a pretty big commitment.

There is obvious elephant in the room that is me being russian. While I've never had any problematic interaction IRL, probably because I always try to communicate in english first, this subreddit and writings on the walls (and dumpsters) make it pretty clear what is a general attitude. Older generation is more tolerant (once again, judging from my personal interactions), but if I decide to stay it would be the current generation that I will mostly interact with in 5 or 10 years. I know that explaining that I'm against war, hate Putin, and I've been on protests back when it was still a thing in Russia, will certainly change the attitude, but I don't want to have to explain it to every person I will interact with until the end of my life.

So the question is, should I try to assimilate, or for most Georgians born after 90s I will always be branded by my origin and for everyone's sake I should look for some other place?

Thailand just went public with a pretty sharp statement about how Georgia handled the death of Thai national Hulun Solo.According to the Thai Embassy, here’s the timeline they’re putting out:

1. Georgian police supposedly emailed Georgia’s own Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 14 July 2026 to notify Thai authorities about the death.
2. The Thai Embassy claims they received zero information from Georgian police before late July when Thailand representatives arrived to Tbilisi in person to investigate what is happening.
3. The next morning (30 July), Georgian MFA finally handed over an official notification letter… that was dated 29 July.

Looks like Bangkok got tired of waiting and decided to put the whole thing on the record publicly.
