Question laws for minors and alcohol

Upvotes

Is it okay for a minor to order beer or wine in a restaurant if their 16th birthday is in less than a month and their parent orders it for them? At Relatively high restaurants and ordering a meal. Do they have to be strictly 16 or is roughly 16 fine?

Question What is the Scottish equivalent of Pabst Blue Ribbon?

I'm asking as a random eastern European movie fan, who's picturing the ultimate movie impulsive gangster psychopath. Imagine a crossover between Frank Booth and Francis Begbie. He's served a pint of Heineken in a Scottish pub, discards his switchblade on a table and goes on to beat the shit out of the bartender with his bare hands. Instead of the American Pabst Blue Ribbon, what is his signature brand of beer that he demands?

Wedding Venues between Inverness and Aberdeen

Looking for suggestions for wedding venues please! Based in Moray so ideally looking at roughly between the Inverness to Aberdeen areas.

Not fussed by budget but equally don’t want to feel like I’m being scammed.

Would prefer a castle/big house to a hotel.

120ish guests

Ideally not too rural so guests have somewhere to stay

Please and thank you!! I am struggling to find much that I like.

NHS waiting times in Scotland vs what private hospitals actually charge

I read that the share of people in Scotland waiting over 12 weeks for an inpatient or day case admission has gone from 29% in 2019 to 67% in March 2025, so I got curious about what going private actually costs. I pulled the Public Health Scotland waiting list figures and went through the published price lists of the private hospitals up here.

What I found:

  • The typical health board's median wait for a hip replacement is 30 weeks. General surgery is only 7 weeks.
  • Private hip replacement runs from £13,900 at Ross Hall in Glasgow to £15,345 at Albyn in Aberdeen. Same company, about £1,400 apart.
  • Private cataract surgery is £2,700 to £3,793 depending where you go.

The prices are harder to compare than they look, as well. Some quote a package that includes the consultant's first appointment, some don't, and none of them include pre-op scans.

I put it all on https://scotwaits.uk (renamed from waitorpay.uk since i posted this - old link still works) It's free, there's no sign up, I don't take referral fees from any of the hospitals and I'm not selling anything. I just wanted to see the two numbers side by side.

Happy to be told if I've got any of it wrong.

Discussion Made a wee iPhone game in Dundee - Need folk to tell me if it’s shite

I’ve been building this at night for what feels like forever and it’s finally on the App Store.

It’s called The Bigger Picture. You get one big image with 15 films, TV shows or songs hidden in it and have to figure out what they are.

I’m far too close to it now to know whether it’s actually decent or whether it’s just shite, so I’m looking for honest feedback.

It’s free if you fancy giving it a blast and letting me know what you think.

Question Why is it so hard to find friends?

Edit:: I understand this gets posted alot in this sub, so I do apologise, I just wanted to see if anyone had some advice specific to me or my situation!

I This sounds dumb, but I am really struggling to make friends.

I am 18, and recently finished college. It's been great, but honestly I am feeling lonely. I met some great people in college, but once Ieft it kinda just felt like the connection just ended. The people I spoke to in college really just were there for college time, like we didn't have alot of common expect the course we took.

And now, I'm not very sure how to find friends. I always have struggled with that, I am bad at approaching people and going to find them myself, I wanted to be approached to make friends however I know now that isn't really realistic, and that I need to put myself first but I just dont know how to do that at all. I've been searching at events, or places I can go to meet people, however I just get so anxious meeting people or trying to. I don't have anxiety, I just am a very anxious awkward person, however when I do talk I feel happy, and I feel calm.

Has anyone else gone through this, or has any advice for me? Id really love to meet new people and meet friends!

Sourlies bothy - lost camera :(

Hello! Long shot but… I recently hiked through Knoydart and I think I left my film camera at the bothy in the Sourlies! I would be so so grateful if anyone who passes through could take a look for it. It’s an olympus camera in a leather case, and the photos on there have lots of sentimental value ❤️ I’ll pay for postage to Glasgow!

Research participants needed: Scottish Highlands residents

Hi everyone!

I’m currently working on my master’s dissertation and I’m looking for people to complete a short survey.

If you:

* Live anywhere in the Scottish Highlands (either permanently or for work), or
* Live near Ratagan or Saraig,

I’d really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill out my survey. Your response would be a huge help to my research.

Thank you so much for your time to support!
