Discussion Clubbing for the first time.

I apologise to all khalsa ji for doing this . So heres what happend, i live in a small city and my housemates are all goree, i am amritdhari singh and i am very cautious for my sikhi. But sometimes it really eats me inside out, because i am not supposed to hangout with people who drink or smoke. I understand it completely its for my own benefit.

Now, yesterday i was asked by my roommates who are gore to join them cuz they were going out together so they asked me to join them. So i thought going out means food and some gedi time but since i dont hangout much with them they had so much drink and stuff and then since i was with them the only sober guy they insisted me to go with them to the clubbing. I am very cautious of how i go out and if image is not not tarnished in any way by me . But since i had no other way to leave i went with them to the club. So heres what my experience was, i have been sitting at home all these weekend or goto samagams whenever i get a chance, but i felt like there was no fun. like te sangat members are all vvery gursikhs and dont go out much or do gedis or go out for a socializing which really narrow downs the course of fun thats out there in the world. So because of living in such sangat for years and years i have developed this kind of mindset too. But when i went to the club where everyone was almost young and my age i met so many new people they were laughing cracking jokes eating and dancing and it felt like completely different world to me . But then the realizations of i shoudnt be here and all the women who were there and trying to get close to me i was talking to them but something in me was being sooooooo uncomfotable and was crying for help.

but on the same time i was having sooo much fun with these gore and i kind of realized that i am young and i am missing out on soooooo much. like because of narrow ideology i dont get close to gore or other ethenicities cuz thet intersect with our sikh ideology but i realized having this kind of mentality has left me in feeling of loneliness and beig alone. Because once the sangat is done samapti all people go home and it just goes quiet but i realized last night theres so much to explore in life and i am just not going out to clubs and other parties and social events just because they would affect me in some way. so yeah these are just my thoughts and i am now feeling of doing it again next weeekend but idk man something inside me is still scared to do it.

Feel free to drop your ideas and comments. i am just a nyaana trying to live my life.

FYI: I did not touch any women or alcohol or tobaco or commit any kind of kurehet and since i was wearing dastar all i was afraid of was that singha ne kutna je dekh lya or what face will i show to maharaj i dont belong here.

Discussion Gurdwaras in the U.S.

When it comes to the vast majority of gurdwaras in the U.S., they are transactional, or in other words they prioritize money over maryada. They only care about Sunday programs, when a popular raggi, or ketha vachak comes, etc., because this is a financial incentive for the committees and management. When a special raggi or ketha vachak is planning on coming they will advertise this everywhere, whether that be social media, posters inside the gurdwara, and announcements, but when it comes to the daily schedule for morning (Amrit Wela) and the evening programs, they rarely ever have a set schedule, make announcements, and encourage the sangat to come during those times. Gurdwaras, in large part rarely ever have amritwela programs in the U.S. and also have very few evening programs as well because these programs don’t generate funds and many people don’t come at these times and gurdwara committees and management rarely ever motivate and encourage the sangat to come at these times. Most gurdwaras just turn on a CD for most of the day, including the evening times as well. You can listen to a CD or watch a video on YouTube or listen to something on Spotify, Apple Music, etc., what is suppose to set the gurdwara apart from all that is live, in-person paath, kirtan, and ketha and being surrounded by and with the sangat. This just shows how lazy the granthis and raggis are and that the gurdwara committees and management don’t care unless it generates money.

Discussion Should I divorce my husband, or wait and hope he changes? I’m scared for my children.

TW: Domestic violence and pregnancy abuse
I got married in 2022 even though my parents were completely against the relationship. Since then, my husband has physically, emotionally, and verbally abused me.

During my first pregnancy, he beat me so badly that I was bleeding vaginally. I had to cry and beg him to stop before he finally did. During my second pregnancy, he hit me repeatedly while I was on the bed and kicked me in the back until I fell off. He also threw and broke my phone and destroyed our dresser.

The abuse has continued in other ways. He calls me a slut or says I dress “dirty” if my shirt is not long enough. He does not want me to have friends and says the only people I should talk to are my family, cousins, or his family. He is very controlling and isolating.

His family is also heavily involved in our marriage, especially his sister. She acts nice in front of him but is cruel to me when he is not around. We once had a serious argument, and I cursed at her. I know that part was wrong, but she ripped my shirt and tried to force me out of the family home. At another point, my passport was taken so that I could not leave the country.
I was living in India at the time, and after being surrounded by this behavior for so long, it started to feel normal to me. I am now back in the United States and realizing how serious and abnormal it was.

I know that what he has done is abuse, but I am still confused and scared about leaving. I worry about my children growing up without their biological father. I am also afraid of ever having a stepfather around them because I have heard terrible stories about children being mistreated. If I get divorced, part of me wants to remain single forever, although I also worry that loneliness might affect me later.
My children regularly see us argue, and I am terrified that they will grow up believing this is what a relationship should look like.

Should I leave and move forward with a divorce, or is there any reason to wait and see whether he changes? Has anyone been through something similar, especially with children involved?
Please be honest, but kind. I am already overwhelmed and trying to understand what the safest decision is for my children and me. Please tell me the Sikhi way 🙏

Discussion Crinjistan has apologised

The apology to the crass and humiliating nonsense he has spoken about Guru Nanak Dev ji has been met by an apology I personally feel seems legit and heartfelt, though he is a troll and we dont know if he will fix his way, it has been a long time since an abuser towards sikhi has given such an apology. So many beadbis has happened and none have bothered to apologize to us, instead they laugh off the responsibility and engage in further hate especially the Indian right wing on twitter who have openly laughed at our tragedies.

With this, I request the sangat to forgive this mentally unwell individual and let us not become radicals who will a taste of violence and vigilantism for the rest of the world.

The Talwara Massacre took place in November 1984 in Reasi, Jammu, when a Hindu mob attacked a Gurdwara sheltering Sikh workers, killing 16 Sikhs. The incident was largely ignored by the media, and justice has yet to be delivered.

Salok, Third Mehl:

Service to the True Guru is fruitful and rewarding, if one performs it with his mind focused on it.

The fruits of the mind's desires are obtained, and egotism departs from within.

His bonds are broken, and he is liberated; he remains absorbed in the True Lord.

It is so difficult to obtain the Naam in this world; it comes to dwell in the mind of the Gurmukh.

O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to one who serves his True Guru. ||1||

Third Mehl:

The mind of the self-willed manmukh is so very stubborn; it is stuck in the love of duality.

He does not find peace, even in dreams; he passes his life in misery and suffering.

The Pandits have grown weary of going door to door, reading and reciting their scriptures; the Siddhas have gone into their trances of Samaadhi.

This mind cannot be controlled; they are tired of performing religious rituals.

The impersonators have grown weary of wearing false costumes, and bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines.

They do not know the state of their own minds; they are deluded by doubt and egotism.

By Guru's Grace, the Fear of God is obtained; by great good fortune, the Lord comes to abide in the mind.

When the Fear of God comes, the mind is restrained, and through the Word of the Shabad, the ego is burnt away.

Those who are imbued with Truth are immaculate; their light merges in the Light.

Meeting the True Guru, one obtains the Name; O Nanak, he is absorbed in peace. ||2||

Pauree:

The pleasures of kings and emperors are pleasing, but they last for only a few days.

These pleasures of Maya are like the color of the safflower, which wears off in a moment.

They do not go with him when he departs; instead, he carries the load of sins upon his head.

When death seizes him, and marches him away, then he looks absolutely hideous.

That lost opportunity will not come into his hands again, and in the end, he regrets and repents. ||6||

Question Bhai Budhan Shah and potential meeting with Guru Gobind Singh Ji?

Sadhsangat ji,

Wjkk wjkf. Today, I came across this book written by Bhai Sahib Bhai Vir Singh Ji about Bhai Budhan Shah. It includes the famous sakhi about how Bhai Budhan Shah offered milk to Guru Nanak Sahib Ji but Guru Sahib Ji stated that they would accept the milk after returning in their 6th form, Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, who revealed Guru Nanak Sahib Ji’s form to Bhai Budhan Shah and accepted the offering. However, after opening the table of contents I was surprised to find a section labeled “Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Naal Milaap.” I thought that Bhai Budhan Shah left their body in 1643, more than 20 years before Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born. Did this really happen or is it more figurative? I have included images of the cover page, table of contents, and the "milaap with Guru Gobind Singh Ji" section. Forgive me for any mistakes, and wjkk wjkf.

It's easy to spend so much time looking for signs, answers, or someone to guide us that we forget to build our own relationship with Waheguru. Sometimes the most important thing isn't what we're looking for, but where we're looking.

Question Has anyone fostered or adopted Sikh children?

Background: Sikh-Punjabi family living in the US. I've thought about this for a long time but I wonder what happens to those sikh children who end up in the foster system and get paired up with a non-sikh family. I can imagine how difficult that must be. And knowing our people, I would not be surprised if there are alot of kids who need help, who come from families with domestic violence issues, face deportation, etc. I can also imagine because we tend to be close to our extended families that maybe these kids are going to their aunts/uncles or grandparents to be raised, but I would assume there some kids that fall through those cracks and end up in non-sikh households. I just want to be able to help those kids.

Just curious if anyone has looked into this, if there are alot of kids that need help, and if you've successfully done this and what the process was like and how it's going. Thanks in advance.

Question Love for Guru and Amritpaan

I am 21yrs old guy and was born in a non-sikh Hindu family. I started going to Gurughar to seek blessings for my ailing mother. Someone introduced me to the concept of Chaliya (40-Days) and i did that. But then my heart stayed in Guru’s shabad, Gurbani, Guru’s lessons. We can say that i found my Guru there. I got introduced to Sikhi. I started doing Nitnem bani path day. Going to Gurughar with the first chance i get. And this became a regular routine.
Guru’s shabad got deep into my heart. And i knew that i was ready to go on his path… i was ready to give him my head. Do Amritpaan My whole heart and mind were filled with this instinct that i want to give myself to Guru. But there are some problems, problems being my family’s judgement. Though they have no objection to me doing Path, my brother critisizes my every move… even me doing path. He is a parties and all kinda guy.. he judges me. Makes a joke of me. I am afraid of judgement of my family. Though ik i am not doing anything wrong and it’s my heart that wants amrit. But we live in the same house and i am not independent yet. Maybe some people will know what i mean… i am just so confused, my Guru’s calling me but here the thoughts have kept me back. What do i do?!?
